Been watching this episode a lot lately. It's one of my favorites.

I think this ep has some great bits for Janet. No matter what Apophis has done, he's still her wounded patient, and she'll be damned before she lets him suffer on the table or at the hands of the enemy without a fight. She's obviously upset at the end, and I was hoping someone would talk to her afterward. (I'll pretend.)

Then there's Jack, who had been the one most eagerly anticipating Apophis's demise. His expression as the host finally dies is just so sad. Who can imagine being held prisoner for eternity and finding escape only in death?

This would be a nice conclusion to Apophis's story were it not for the sarcophagus. I don't remember if or how he comes back, but I assume he does. Hopefully his role remains interesting.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Dana Carvey Church Lady reference. When Daniel mentions Sokar being the original Satan, Jack responds with "well, isn't that special".

On the one side -- Yay, we "captured" Apophis and the bastard is dying! -- but on the other side, there's the Ancient Egyptian man suddenly awakened from his thousands of years nightmare and he finds himself once again at death's door. This is a very bittersweet episode (and not because I know Apophis has many lives as a cat).

We see the death of an enemy and the team wants to celebrate but at the same time, there's the host for which Daniel speaks the last rites and sends his last breath to Egypt (in a manner of speaking). And when Martouf informs them that Sokar will simply revive Apophis, the team is torn whether it's appropriate to be joyous death will not come easily for the Goa'uld, or to pity the host who must continue his nightmare.

The interactions between each teammember and Apophis are spot on, and the way their demeanor changes when it's the host talking and not Apophis, even Jack looses his quip.

Sidenote: Apparently, this too is out of order with Holiday on my DVD-set. Seems like half of season 2 has been turned around.

This is one of my favorites. What made Apophis such a great antagonist is that he had a personal connection with most of SG1 (poor Sam). I loved the interrogation and the disagreement with Tok'ra. I think they were right about Apophis. I think the best part is about seeing the host reemerge. It sheds light on the torture they go through. This is a rare excellent for me.
