Yep, but did you read the BIG differences from last year? NO pictures will allowed at the Gold Pass only dessert party and a photo on the set is "tentative". This is not what was promised in April. I understand about the pics at the party, it really did make it tough on the stars, but possibly NO pic on the set???? They were telling us we might be able to take our own pics of the set, now NO pics, not even the one in front of the Gate?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The set tour is not a done deal yet for next year. Creation still has to do some negotiating with the studio on the set tour. They did talk about trying to do pictures in front of the Atlantis Gate next year as long as the studio gives them the go ahead. Here is a quote from Creation Complimentary escorted tour and bus transportation from the hotel to the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis sets. Because we understand that the tour visits are an integral part of the package and because we are dependent on outside sources and decisions to deliver them, in the very unlikely case that we can not offer these visits your convention tickets will be fully refunded. If they can not work out the set tour people will be refunded on tickets already purchased should you choice not to attend.

As it stands now, i'm thinking of going.

But did i read the price right? $499? Wasn't last year cheaper? Hmmm...

About the pictures. That could be an issue, especially since a picture is only way to prove you were actually "there." I was kind of hoping that they would allow pics of some sort.

On a similar (but different note), has anyone heard anything about the Vancouver GateCon (not creation) yet?

That's what worries me about putting 500 bucks into the Gold level tickets. Since the tickets are non-refundable, if i get the gold level tickets, and the Con turns out really crappy (no tours and a poor guest list) then i would have blown at least 500 bucks.

But i'd really like to go.

I know this might be early, but i was thinking of finding people to share a hotel room with, so we could split the costs (of the hotel room) and make it a bit cheaper.

If you purchase the tickets now, to get a good seat, they are refundable if there is NO tour.

I also got the notice that the Vancouver con tickets are now available! Not sure I'm ready to decide, but also don't want to miss out... last year was really fun, especially being my first convention ever.

              * I bought the Gold Pkg last year before the deadline for $499, so the price is the same. Of course, the photos ops were extra.

              * I'm glad (mostly) that they aren't allowing cameras at the Dessert Party this time. The folks at the first few tables got great photos, I'm sure, but the rest of the room suffered in a sense because we didn't get that opportunity because of the time it was taking. If I go, I would look forward to the chance to exchange a few words with my favorites from the show (that's assuming I'd have the presence of mind to put any words together in a sentence).

              * As for the set tours - as I recall, they told us at the end of the con that it wasn't certain if they'd be able to do them again. To me, it sounded like the issue was more whether or not the show was renewed - which, of course, it has been. As for being able to take photos at the set, there were rumors flying even in April about whether or not we could take photos, even tho we'd been plainly told not to bring cameras. (I know one guy in my tour group brought his camera anyway and I saw him take a pic of the gate from the conference room, but nobody else did this.) It would certainly be fun to take photos, and to again have a special photo taken on the set, but it's not a make-or-break item for me -- visiting the set was so much fun, and I still remember it every time I watch an episode and would love to do it again.

Okay, I guess I've rambled on long enough. My opinion is that the changes they've made will be better in the long run, and things that haven't been decided yet don't need to be worried about until we have a more definite answer. That's my two cents...whatever that's worth!

              Blessings,
              OregonJen

Thanks for the VanCon sig, Nathan!

I had started to arrange for going to this, but i'm seriously reconsidering now, as there are a few things that are really bugging me about it...

The first is the price. Set tour aside, as it might not even happen, they want almost twice the amount that the London con tickets were. Plus, when you remove the tour, they don't seem to be offering anything extra. Plus, it's quite a hefty amount on top of flights and accomodation for a week's holiday, when so little is actually guaranteed...

The other is the presale. Not being funny, and people who have already paid can feel free to rag on me and red-rep me as much as they like for this, but I hardly think it's fair that it will be the same people getting all the extras time and time again, with little or no chance for anyone else to get a look in. It's really put me off thinking that for my most likely once-in-a-lifetime trip to Canada, I'll probably have next to no chance of getting a Gold weekend pass. Not saying you can't have fun with the other packages on offer, but when you are travelling over 4000 miles and paying over £1000 already, you obviously want to go the whole hog, not risk not getting to see the people you want to see.

As for the no pics stance...how rubbish. I've seen the photo-ops pics and some of them are a disgrace. Plus they are a one-shot which often goes wrong - I'd be seriously gutted and annoyed if I'd had opportunity to take my own picture and that was taken away, only for my photo-op to come out crap. To me, this just seems to be another Creation exercise in making people part with more money...

Being a resourceful fangirl, I'm beginning to think I'd do better just randomly going places in Vancouver and seeing who I happen upon. I think I shall just wait and see what other events are added to next year's con calendar now...

Here's how I understand it. The tickets are currently $499 - the same as the early bird price for this past April. If they don't have the tours, it is fully refundable. I imagine that the set pic advertised is tentative based on if they have the tour. I would guess that Creation is negotiating the "gate pic" as part of the tour.

So, in the end, I would imagine you will get the same thing you got last April. The only difference is the Saturday evening and not having pictures. (Which I think is a great idea!!!)
No snurching any Pictures I post!! (without my permission)

Thanks OregonJen, for putting things back into perspective. I did buy the early bird tickets last year, because I got front row center seats. That's why I reserved them while I was still at the Con for the March 06 Con. I wanted those seats!

I was at one one of the lucky 2 tables that got the "stars" and it was incredible. I was VERY lucky, I see that now. Chris was seated next to me, then MS was directly across and TR was to my left. Talking to them was amazing, esp. Chris. We just chatted like old friends about his new daughter, AT's daughter, the baby shower, his son. And the pic I was so fortunate to get is one of my prize treasures. Teryl was so wonderful....

As for the set tour, it WAS a blast! I still can't believe I was actually there, and the people I met were wonderful too. People from all over the world and all there because they loved SG-1 and SGA. My photo opps came out fine and the Gate pic is a trip, but even without it, just being there, sitting at the conference table, sitting in the puddle jumper, walking through the sets, walking through the Atlantis gate.....ok, it was worth it. And I'm seriously hoping that both series get renewed, TPTB decide to have the tour and if we have the tour, maybe we can cajole them into at least letting us get one pic, either in front of first gate or the Atlantis gate.

                    Thanks again.

Ok, haven't read all the posts yet, but I just got my tix!!! I'm so excited!!!

And, with the tour/pics thing.. just b/c it isn't a done deal yet, it doesn't mean it won't happen. It sounds to me like Creation understands how big of a deal this is for people, and it is really nice of them to offer refunds if the tour thing falls thru.. I just have a feeling they're trying to negotiate so that we can take our own pics.. (but I really don't know.. i'm just being hopeful..lol) and in case things don't work out or something they're willing to give us our money back...

Anyway, I'm super super excited to be going!!!! I didn't go this yr and I'm just sooo excited to see the sets. and hoping Atlantis people will be there! and Amanda! I've never met her or any Atlantis people so I'm really really hoping they'll be there..

And, Pics are really important to me, and that's why I feel better ordering at this point, so early, b/c they're willing to give the refunds. and I kind of wish they would allow cameras at the desert party b/c I personally just love pics, and would just even want one w/ me and whoever I'm there with.. but I understand it must be tiring for the stars to pose again and again and again and again.... sooo anyway, i'm gonna go finish reading the posts but at this point that's how I feel!

edit: just finished the reading the posts... yea, I understand the various feelings floating around.. but I have a question to those who went last yr.. were u told there were gonna be photo ops on the set? b/c i didn't know about that.. just wondering! And yea, i can't argue against the "no cameras" at the dessert party.. I mean, of course it would be nice, but I do think this is more respectful to the actors.. besides it sounds like it didn't work out too well last con anyway.. (i dunno though, i wasn't there whoever was there, I'd like to hear opinions..)
Anyway, all in all, I'm sooo excited to be going, but WILL be disappointed if the set tours don't happen

StarDreamer, when Michael Shanks left the dessert party in april, I thought he was going to fall asleep on his feet. Even when he was sitting at my table, he looked so tired, I told him he really needed to get some sleep. He smiled and readily agreed, with a look that said "but when?". So as much as I love my pic, it really isn't fair to the stars, esp. those that were there that day, on stage, signing autographs and doing photo opps. It's just too much.

I'm sure something will be worked out.

Already bought my ticket because I enjoyed the heck out the April con.

Glad to see that the desert party format has changed. Something had to give. That was the only sour note of the whole April con. I'd rather rub elbows anyday.

Like going to cons because of the folks you meet there. Was lucky enough to meet many, many folks from this board. The con is an intense three day dunk into somthing I enjoy a whole lot with a folks who feel the same way, and. this is a big one, want to have FUN.

The set tour is great with or without pictures. I was lucky enough to get set pics at Gatecon 2004 and treasure them like, almost, no others. Even if you don't get to take pics having N. John Smith as your tour guide will give you quite a thrill. FCOL no matter what - you were there. You will never watch the show the same way again.

Life's to darn short not to take every opportunity presented and make the absolute most of it.

Will put my soap box away now and go to my 'happy place' filled with the wonderful memories created by the folks at the cons I've been lucky enough to attend.

Looking forward to seeing a bunch of you in Vancouver next year woo-hoo.

Wow. Sounds like a great time.

I'm leaning more and more toward's getting the gold package, but i was wondering what the other packages were like.

About the hotel, are the rooms advertised on Creation's site actually on-site at the hotel where the Con is happening?

I'm thinking of trying to coordinate with someone to share a hotel room so costs can be shared, making it slightly cheaper.

Yup the rooms and the con are one of the same. The staff was very friendly and the 'appointments' were nice. You're also across the street from a big shopping mall with a good grocery store, nice shops and eateries. Public transport (a tram) is just a couple blocks away.

It's about a 30 minute or $27 (C) ride away from the airport as they have no shuttle service.
