You are completly wrong, the first seson of SG1 was the weakest out of all of them in my opinion. It was not even close to what it is now.
So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains,
And we never even know we have the key.

            Worse:

1.Jack's - or should i say RDA's attitude. How am i suposed to feel energetic about the show when he's steps away from becoming a primordial ameoba about the whole thing??

            2. The Fantastic Four has, over the year become the Fantastic Three, The Fantastic Two, The Fantastic whoever's ready to go through the gate, The Fantastic alternate reality SG1 half of whom aren't even in the airforce. How'm i supposed to respond to that??

            3. Season 1 - about 6 and maybe the beginning of 7 gave me clay to work with. One by one foes were churned out of the baddie Guf and I was interested to see how they were going to work with them. Then, they say, "oh, well hold on now, we still have this Goa'uld problem to fix - and oh yeah, there's the Replicators - how about this - lemme throw a little Jaffa rebellion at ya!" Um ... my clay's getting kinda dry here guys. What about the Furlings? What about the Nox? What about those "Giant Aliens"? What about the Foothold Aliens? What's up? I think the train speed is set for way too fast cause you're losing me.

            4. Shipping. Guuuuuuuhhh!! This is not Daytime TV!! This is Sci Fi!! Action, Action, Action!! I dont' mind the occasional romance, sexual tension, blah blah blah, but what ever you do, dont center an entire episdoe around a character's romantic adventures unless the object of his/her affections turns out to be a shrewd, devilishly handsome or drop dead gorgous shape shifting baddie from the nearest galaxy come to collect his/her DNA and spawn a new generation of mind numbing humanoid aliens whose only objective is to take over the known universe.

            Better:

            1. .... um, Oma maybe? She was pretty cool. Um ...

            2. Replicarter? She's ... um ... scary ... kinda creepy ... calls robo bugs her brethren ... might be dead? Well, it was fun while it lasted.

            3. (cricket chirps) I still wanna know if the Nox are ever coming back. And the Asgard, what're they up to lately??

            4. (desert wind howls) i'll have to get back to you on this.

Everyone has thier own opinions about the episodes and how they are going some like it other dont, I personally like it, as to seeing more of the nox hell yeah I would like to see that they were cool, and the Furlings I would love to see a few episodes with them. Think of it this way when you buy a CD there are bound to be a few songs you dont care for or dont like.
I love how its going and cant wait to see what is on the horizon..

I think Stargate has merely suffered from writer's fatigue and an effort to draw out the series that "one more year" for a few years too many. When each season MAY be the last, you want to be within striking distance of a grand finale... when that finale get's postponed you need to stretch out the remaining plotlines for that extra year. Do that a few times, and the show will surely get a bit strained.

The effect hasn't been to make the show awful, but more to make the really stellar episodes fewer and far between. There were quite a few episodes I coudl do without in Season 8. Teal'c getting an apartment? O'Neill having a "psychic buddy"? They weren't AWFUL, but they were below the standards I am used to seeing.

Perhaps this attempt at reinventing the series, with new characters, will fly. Perhaps it won't. But it is necessary. The old plot lines just don't have sufficient life left in them.

IMHO, I don't think the show has gotten worse, or better either... it's changed. It is not the same show now as it was in the beginning. I loved the early show, I love the current show and I really enjoyed the journey here. When it ends, I'll be bummed but I'm not necessarily in favor of dragging the show on and on either.

Personally, I really enjoyed the character development and the change in challenges to the team that have occured over the years. I'm not too keen on the USAF becoming the fledgling space force in a matter of only a couple years...
A top-secret government program involving instantaneous travel to other solar systems by means of a device known as a stargate. (Marty)
Sounds like a good idea for a TV show - if you're into that sort of thing. (O'Neill)

Cute Paul McGillion banner with the lovely Scots flag.

Now, as to the substance of the post? I disagree. But I'm not getting into any more discussions with the angry/disgusted/dissappointed/disenchanted fan contingent. Nope. So, see ya around in another discussion.

Would be nice to see the "Foothold Aliens" again. Curious as to where they came from. As for the Furlings..we can do with out them. Its a silly name. They could just say that it was a typo in the translation but how then would they explain the Asgard calling them Furlings?

Would like to see anohter episode like Discloser or one with all of Earth's allies working on a new mutual protection tready or such.

And as for the Asgard, arent they now living in our galaxy seeing how the replicators pretty much destroyed all life in the Asgard galaxy?

I am glad that some plotlines have (or seem to) come to and end. To me this hasnt made the show worse. Its like in limbo now. New plots are now needed. Maybe it will happen this summer.

Well, every series that runs as long as this one will have people who love the new direction, and others who hate it. In my opinion, no season will top Season 5 (as much as I liked Jonas), but that's because Season 5 was so deeply rooted in the mythos. Season 7 didn't fulfill the promise of "Full Circle" and get the crew any tangible amount closer to the Lost City and the destruction of the Goa'uld. Instead, it meandered through personal stories, which are fine in moderation, but in sum fell flat.

The first half of Season 8 seemed tired to me, like they didn't have enough cool ideas and had to find other stuff to fill the first half of the season. The second half has actually tied up the first half considerably, but it's not a season I'm going to watch a lot.

The usual example for a long-running television series is MASH, of course. There are a lot of people who don't like what happened to the show in the later seasons. Personally, I think it was a good change, taking it from a comedy to a drama. War isn't a comic thing, and those stories of death and pain are just as worthy of the telling as are the antics of doctors trying to hold it together with laughter in the midst of war. But that kind of change will always strike some as good and some as bad. TPTB just can't please everyone.

Tarrifist, a show on another treaty would be well, boring.

One thing toi look forward to in season 9 is that we have a ZPM, and season opener with RDA and a 3 parter. And then there is the new super-nemy. Somewhere on this site it says that they'll be worse than the Goa'uld and replicators, so thats pretty bad. However we now have a fully charged ZPM. There'll be at least some of season 9 that will look at getting a new ZPM or other Ancient technology.

At its best it's as good as ever . At its worst it's as bad as ever . Its mediocre is as mediocre as ever .

There seems to be a rather higher proportion of mediocre than there used to be, but that doesn't *have* to be the case in s9...

Certain writers aren't what they used to be -

:: Glares at certain writers ::

                            - but M&M have had their best ever year this year (and they'd written such classics as Curse and Scorched Earth, so that's pretty good going), and the same goes for Damian Kindler, who impresses more and more. I hope those chaps are well represented in the writers' credits in s9.

I think that the show has its ups and downs. I certainly prefer the first three seasons to all that has come after, but season 6 was a step up from 4 and 5 and I think season 8 has been far more entertaining than season 7. Hopefully, SG-1 can end on an "on" season rather than an "off" one.
