Hypothetically, the better the show does in Australia the more MGM can charge the network airing it, meaning they could charge Syfy less for their airing rights inorder to keep it on the air. I'm not sure that's how MGM really operates though.

The more "cream" MGM can gather, the less it has to charge Syfy for "first run" rights. The lower the cost for Syfy, the lower the ratings it needs to break even/make profit. I'm NOT saying "Aussies did it", in fact, I said "no one outside the US" could.
