When Poirot's journey aboard the luxury train is halted by a snowbank, the savage murder of a mysterious passenger casts suspicion on his fellow travelers (a starry guest cast including Eileen Atkins, Hugh Bonneville and Barbara Hershey).

Show Patrol: My Top 10 most anticipated returning shows

“Stargate Universe” (8 p.m. Sept. 28, Syfy) ended its freshman season with about 50 cliffhangers that are swiftly dealt with in the season premiere, “Intervention.” But the fallout from the Destiny crew’s battle with the Lucian Alliance invaders lingers, and fans are treated to a few “Oh no they didn’t!” moments early on. Dr. Rush (Robert Carlyle, above) remains as secretive as ever, but I get the feeling that he may be more heroic than I’ve thought in the past. Maybe. “SGU” is murky like that, and I can’t wait for more.

Lou Diamond Phillips has joined the cast of a currently untitled drama pilot on Lifetime.

Deadline reports that the actor will play a police lieutenant in the project, which will be produced by Sony TV.

The series will feature former ER actress Sherry Stringfield and ex-Sopranos star Jamie-Lynn Sigler as police detectives Molly Collins and Brooke Kross.

The pair will "investigate the city's most high-profile crimes while navigating their divergent personal lives".

Phillips, who will play their boss, recently had a recurring role on Stargate Universe and has also starred in episodes of 24 and Numb3rs.

CSI writer Josh Berman will oversee production of the pilot episode.
