Jack was an *insert expletive here* in season 3 towards Sam. There's no other way to put it. However, I wonder if it's because he was starting to realise how much he cared for her and he freaked out a bit. Tried to shove her away and make her hate him, like he so obviously tried to do with his "I've not been acting like myself since I met you. Now I'm acting like myself!" BS.
