Sorry to be pitching in so late (I was away over Easter) but please could no one post stuff like "shippers running amuck" and "the shippers once the ship is exhausted will move on as they really don't care what the show was originally about". The first is v impolite, the second is a false (and rather patronising) generalisation.

    Cheers.

Okay, so s9 *ought* to be ship-free for the first few eps, but then Inauguration(sp?) was an ep with no AT and no RDA and yet they still managed to get a shippy subtext in (Evil Nasty Kinsey: "Carter and O'Neill are close and it's wrong". Lovely Upstanding President: "People are entitled to their feelings!"). If they get through the AT-less eps without any overtly shippy drivel I'll be pretty chuffed.

I shudder to think how the writers will find way to firce ship into the entire season when Jack will basically be non-existent. And you KNOW they will, because from what I've gathered from the way they've been writing Sam these past few seasons, she's worthless and incomplete if she isn't pining after a man. They seem to have forgotten how to write Strong, Independent Sam, the Role Model. Now it's all Spineless, Wishy-Washy Sam, the Stereotypical Victim. *sigh* I share the concern of others that the introduction of Ben Browder to the cast will be used as an excuse to ship her with yet another male. So she'll either be pining after the "absent" Jack, or she'll go all starry-eyed over Mitchell. Or worse, they'll try and steall the head-butting sparkage between Sam and McKay and force it into the Sam/Mitchell dynamic for twice the "fun". Blah.

I don't envy you people who are still watching, I really don't.

Oh, crap, I never saw that one coming. Sam and Mitchell?? *shudder* If that's what's gonna happen ... I feel very sorry for Sam indeed.

I really would have to smack TPTB if they started Shipping Sam with Cameron....THAT is getting beyond ridiculous in *the ship factor* for Sam

I doubt (hoping fervently, anyway) it would happen. Screwing up that badly is not possible. I mean, after all the time invested into Sam and Jack lately, there's no way it'll be ditched that easily. 4 seasons worth of out-in-the-open whatever-it-is won't be dumped just because Jack leaves. I definitely think pining is the more likely pitfall, personally.

Well, they have to ship Mitchell with SOMEONE, he's the Hot Studly Male Lead. Maybe the'll ship him with the new doctor. Or go the predictible route and ship him with Vala, leaving Daniel to feel rejected and seeking solace in the arms of the doc.

Or they could have Mitchell married and then he can be all broody and moping about his ladylove... which will make him that much more attractive to all the Sexy Alien Females the team is sure to encounter. Assuming the team ever actually leaves the planet.

And as previously stated, Sam has to be attached to SOME male because she's a girl and isn't strong enough to stand on her own. *scowl*

Ah. Ok, I guess that depends on how broadly or narrowly you define "storyline." I define it pretty narrowly, so I always saw the "Jolinar" and "Tok'ra" storylines as separate from the Sam/Martouf storyline. Related, but separate.

Jolinar was about a symbiote that blended with Sam and sacrificed herself for Sam, and Sam coping with that, and with the memories that got left behind. The Tok'ra was about a whole new race of potential allies. Sam/Martouf was about an alien falling for Sam and then dying.

Many thanks to blingaway for the sig pic.

Ah, but Jolinar was in love with Martouf/Lantash, so that puts a slight taint on the storyline. There WAS some stuff that was completely separate, but unfortunately not ALL of it...

                    Science. I miss those days.
And even science itself had the McKay issue...

                      Spoilers for Threads and Heroes

Sadly, some of those stories have been ruined for me in the past couple of seasons due to the absolute necessity to get in the shippy moments...

                      Spoiler:
they have ruined Jacob for me in Threads when his deathbed wish was for her to basically give it all up for Jack. (reading between the lines)

And the Cassie=Sam friendship was ruined in Heroes with the "tough kid" comment. While Sam, of course, cuddled with the Colonel.

Amen! that deathbed wish was just dumb. I mean, really, did anybody want to thwap Sam there? Huh? anyone?

I have but two words for you ... Agent Barrett. Sam goes from scenery chewing shippyness over her boss in one episode, to having an NID admirer in the next. Oh, and a boyfriend too, at the same time.

Somebody should tell the writers that's not dramatic, it's skanky.

Hmm...haven't seen Moebius yet. Explains my ignorance. (Not so eager to see it, either.)

Not Moebius, I haven't seen anything after Affinity yet, myself. The whole Agent Barrett thing was during the Heros/Resurrection arc of episodes. You know, Season 7, brought to you by the ship of fools.

Hmmm, sorry, still a little bitter at the destruction of a couple of characters I used to like more. Damn writers.

OH, ok. Sorry, I'm getting my pathetic-mooning-'ship episodes messed up. Whew! I was afraid for a second that Sam had a new man already after Threads...
