I myself love to write Sam/Jack angst ^_^ pretty simple actually, Sam pissed off because A: Why didn't Jack ever give her affection back. abd B: She's pissed off at herself for being so confused about herself. and C: Jack's stone cold features with the wasp eating are soooo romantic ^_^

    DS9 OT

    Spoiler:
Admittedly i gave up after the second season of DS9, but i picked up agian in the fourth and it really was a great show from then on. Didn't last as long as it did for nothing. Personally i prefer Babylon 5, but DS9 is brilliant on it's own as well.

    Bashir/Sisko is... jaw dropping
I've tried to read a couple of S/J fics recommended by friends but I find them all just too out of character for me to enjoy (and the sex was so vanilla! Yawn).
There were times when I wanted to shake RDA - there was Amanda, emoting her little socks off and giving 110% as always, and there was Jack, looking bored/scared/uncomfortable/as though he had indigestion*
I couldn't believe the directors let him get away with it, couldn't they see how it made Sam look?

    *delete as appropriate.

    DS9 OT
    Spoiler:
I liked B5 too, I know lots of people saw similarities between the shows, I only saw a few and liked them both in their own, different ways.
SG1 didn't come close to "In The Pale Moonlight" or "Rocks and Shoals" or "Duet" - "Abyss" is possibly the closest, but then, SG1 was a different sort of show, apples and oranges. The only real thing DS9 and SG1 have in common is that they are both serial US SF TV shows.

Don't worry about the slashing. Slash happens, we don't feel the need to evangelise about it, we are comfortable enough with our own little slices of fanon.

Don't know if this has been posted here before but this is quite probably the only Sam/Jack ship fic i like

      The Phantom Chase

I thank Slurredspeech for bringing it to my attention, as i was hit with wave after wave of loud unrepresseed groans, and crippling waves of laughter indused nausea after reading all three parts of this

it's about 20k words long in total, but worth the time to read simply for the humor aspect

      DS9/Bab5 OT
      Spoiler:

Both shows had their highs and lows, Bab5 had a weakish first season, but after that it all just went up and up until the end of season 4. DS9 had it's weird moments as well, but for thost part it's an above average show.

What sets them apart is the fact that they don't have clearly defined lines between action, drmaa, humor, or sci-fi. They could be in the middle of a ridiculously tense drama scene and someone will say something inadventandly funny to the viewer. And the drama was hardly if ever over the top a la SGU. (i think the only part that was very very strong drama in Bab5 was Ivanova crying after Marcus sacrifices himself for her. Never forget Ivanova's line of "All love in unrequited." )Or in DS9 when they have to hold the outpost against the Jem'ha'dar and Nog loses his leg. But both made perfect sense and added to the characters rather than detracted.

      in summary, Odo/Kira and Sheridan/Delenn > Sam/Jack in every single way imaginable. I see Sam/Jack as a potential Sheridan/Ivanova.

                May be spoilery for SGU

                Spoiler:
Glad to see absolutely nothing shippy in SGU so far (and really, why would they?). The Sam and Jack interaction has been purely professional, which was great to see. And Sam still called him "General" not "Darling," so I was happy. I've actually stopped watching SGU because it's not my cup of tea at all. But I will tune in for Daniel, Jack and Jack AND Daniel. Be still my beating heart.

                  Spoiler:
As I said, I haven't seen SGU yet and I'm not likely to see it any time soon. But Jack and Daniel would tempt me.
For the most part though, I'm happy for SGU to be its own show and it would be sad and a bit pathetic to put J/S in there, SGU fans deserve their own show.

Here's something to gladden the heart.

RDA was at a con in Australia this weekend, and, according to one report, was asked whether Sam and Jack should end up together. His answer was, according to the report poster, "along the lines of no, because it'd be against Air Force rules, and would so cheapen both their portrayal of the Air Force and the Air Force itself. Or something".

                        Good to hear.

I always believed he didn't buy into the ship, what with the whole looking uncomfortable and pained thing he had going on every time it raised its head.

Well, it's not like his opinion matters anymore since his not an EP anymore

In the same way it doesn't matter that AT seems pro the ship these days. Indeed it doesn't. And since there aren't likely to be any more movies anytime soon (if at all) the whole sorry storyline is pretty moot.

Just nice to hear his views, since I happen to agree with him.

I've always felt that RDA was a restraining influence on some of TPTB more romantic excesses.
He's too good an actor for those constipated looks (whenever feeling feelings for his 2IC raises its ugly head) to be accidental. Even though it was hardly fair on poor AT, acting her socks off against a brick wall, I understand and applaud his principals. And good taste, naturally.

I seem to recall reading that Sanctuary will be recording from March to November? Seems like a long time, plus post production, but then, they have had the length of the the season ordered up from 13 to 20 episodes, which, of course, all takes time. This will tie up Amanda and the proposed director of the third film until Sanctuary is in the bag.
And, in all fairness, had TPTB really wanted to resurrect the dead horse, they had RDA in the second film (which he wasn't an EP on) and didn't bother to, so, even if, by some major miracle, the third film does surface, if there is even the vaguest whiff of a fourth film, S/J will be firmly plonked on the back burner again.
I'm not going to worry about a film which may or may not happen. Canonically, Sam is captain of the Hammond, Jack is several light years away in Washington, the greatest-romance-ever-forced-upon-us is dead and buried.

I honestly believe the third movie is dead in the water.

MGM's crushing problems aside, Rick said at the con he was pretty much retired, Amanda is happily very busy with Sanctuary, Chris is off ... being Chris, Michael's busy with pilot season (and who knows what may or not come of that), so really, what are the chances?

Time is passing; fans are fickle and move on. Yes, we diehards are still around, but the average fan is off with the latest new shiny.

And even if they get Sam and Jack together in the movie, I'll still never believe it's the right thing to do, or that it would make either of them happy. I'd have the divorce fic penned in days.

I have ten great seasons of SG-1 to enjoy, plus two fairly average (but mercifully ship-free) movies. That's enough for me.

                                That ship has sailed.
