I saw My Fair Lady and Pygmalion more than fifteen years ago. I wouldn't have made the connection with Jack / Sam ship at all, left to my own devices.

Neither would I. Thanks to my lit teachers, though, the talks of unequal partnership invariably make me think of Shaw's play and its adaptation(s).

Brining this up because I'm feeling militant and don't want to have to defend my views. No J/S ship! Total and utter lack of chemistry between Jack and Sam makes it painful and ridiculous. TPTB can't write it well. They definitely can't write ship and friendship at the same time.

1.Chemistry cannot be forced.
2.By Sam's own words, written for her by tptb, nothing can happen because of the nature of their jobs.
3.Being bombarded, blasted, and buried with ship will not make it more appealing to anti-shippers.
4. IMO, dropping all these hints (well, if something as big and smelly as an unclean elephant can be called a hint) while maintaining #2 is like dangling a carrot in front of shippers and snatching it back. If I was a fan of this pairing, I'd be insulted.
5. This is the most cliched pairing. They saved the world together? Big freaking deal. So did Daniel and Teal'c. Sam could easily have fallen for either of them (no, I'm not suggesting an orgy, so don't say I am. I'm giving an example). That obviously isn't enough to create 'true love'. Jack's good looking? Again, no slouches in the Daniel and Teal'c department. Sam's good looking? She's also the only female. Is there anything about Jack that illustrates that he's "the one" for Sam? Not a thing, except the cliche that he's played by the lead actor. And, is there anything about Sam that says that Jack has to fall in love with her? Not a thing, except, she's the girl. (And, again, I'm not saying that neither of them have any good qualities. But, I don't happen to fall in love with every person I know who have good qualities. So, what elevates this couple?)
6. Did I mention the no chemistry? Chemistry might salvage the rest, but Chemistry took one look at the pair and ran away screaming. Chemistry jumped into Pete's arms and told him to hunt down Sam. Chemistry took a side trip to Agent Barrett. I don't know if chemistry found anyone for Jack. I do know chemistry has to take anti-nausea medication everytime it watches AU's of Jack and Sam being involved.
