Jack O'Neill/ Sam Carter - Part of a team, not a ship
Ah, but if Teal'c had carried her, it would have been one comrade helping another, when Jack does it it must Mean Something, according to TPTB.
Though, in Crystal Skull, it doesn't. It's one comrade helping another. Teal'c or Daniel would have carried her, she would have helped any of the boys. Which is why it doesn't put our teeth on edge.
Exactly. It's just teamy.
Remember, Replicarter can shoot her dear friend Daniel without a hesitation but hesitates when it comes to Sir because of The Love Which Eclipses All. Including TEAM.
And they wonder why we don't like it!
FF
Argh! Thanks so much for reminding me of that. that was definitely a Whaa? moment for me the first time I saw it.
Oh, and Singularity today. The whole TEAM was concerned when Sam went back down in the elevator and Jack could call her Sam and express the concern of a FRIEND. Nice.
Didn't he just throw her over his shoulder? *memory glitch* That doesn't seem all that romantic.
Agreed. Distinctly not romantic. And if it's meant to be romantic (which never would have occurred to me in a million years)... then we've got some serious problems here, people. Because if that's a sign of ship, then apparently this whole team is shipping around (wait, I don't think that came out quite right ). IIRC, Jack throws Daniel over his shoulder in The Light. And Teal'c carried Daniel around in The Broca Divide. And I'm sure there are other examples that I'm forgetting (are memory glitches contagious?). So the point being... I agree, nothing shippy about it.

Great happy armies shall be gathered and trained to oppose all who embrace doubt. In the name of Hope, ships shall be built to carry our disciples out amongst the stars, and we will spread Optimism to all the doubters. The power of the Optimi will be felt far and wide, and the pessimists shall become positive-thinkers.

And they all carry the burden of caring about each other ... a lot more than they're supposed to. GO TEAM!!

True. And Sam always seems to be the medic & helps carry people. Reynolds for example. The Two Timer!
I seem to recall her half-carrying Elliott/Lantash, too, while Jack and Teal'c just walked around without offering to help.
The hussy clearly doesn't understand the rules of Twu Wuv; she should only ever touch Sir, be sat with Sir, be stood next to Sir, speak to Sir.
For heavens sake, anyone would think she was a rounded character with a life, friends and collages, not the love of Sir's life.
Been a while, thought I'd better post something before it was decided the thread was redundant again!
I've been playing with the LOL cat generator, I'm afraid. My brain is still frazzled from a busy con at the weekend.
Famous quote from Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar, for those of you not from the UK
I watched Entity this weekend and am proud to say I can watch it and just see team concern. Maybe it's just the way I squint.
My clearest memories of Entity is Amanda Tapping's good acting (she, and Michael Shanks, can knock my socks off).
Though, it must be three, four years since I watched that episode.
But teamy concern is always the way to go.

Would you mind loaning me those ship-proof glasses you were wearing?
I've only watched Entity twice. Once, as a confused SG-1 newbie who was watching random reruns out of order while *ahem* attempting to do my math homework (I swear, it's a wonder I passed that class ). And I was bored by it. The pacing seemed slow, I didn't have a firm enough understanding of the characters to really care what was happening, and it felt like a bland generic sci-fi plotline with a new coat of paint.
By the time I saw it again, I knew quite a bit about SG-1 and had heard enough to know there was this supposed "ship" thing out there. Consequently, my second viewing went something like this: "Oh, now I understand the plotline and what's going on... Uh, wait, why is Jack acting like such a jerk? ...are they implying some weird romantic thing?.... eeeeewwww! That's what all this "ship" talk is about... oh, of course, the unresolved romantic tension between the leading lady and the leading guy. That's an overused cliche if I ever saw one. Glad to see Teal'c and Daniel doing their job as, uh, wallpaper? Now I'm bored again."
Hence, I've never had the courage to re-watch it. but maybe I should give it a try now. Maybe with some distance from the series, I could overcome the pure eeeeww-ness of my second viewing. I'll just have to remember to squint a lot.
BTW, FF, I still love the cats.

I don't remember very much about Entity, except that Amanda did a very good job as the possessed. Like MS, she's good at conveying her character as slightly skewed, slightly different.
I feel no urge to watch it again, however.
Of course, Teal'c and Daniel were being wallpaper, Khent, if they had actually had part of the plot it might have distracted from The Glory Which Is Sam and Sir.
Or might have pointed out how flimsy and contrived The Glory Which Is Sam and Sir is whenever either Sam or Jack interact with other characters. This is why it feels so forced; the 'relationship' doesn't carry the story well enough to stand up to any active involvement from other characters. As long as only Sam and Sir are shown, they can get away with it, but as soon as Sam or Jack are shown interacting with Daniel, Teal'c, Janet, Hammond, Jacob, well, any of the other principals, the tissue thin nature of the emotion is exposed to scrutiny and it's so obvious how false and manufactured it seems. So the team has to go on the back burner in favour of the 'ship so the depths of the teams emotions for each other doesn't show up how silly and contrived the idea of Sam and Sir is.
And, yes, I am addicted to LOL cats, it is my cross to bear.
