But that's what I meant! If there is a scene that somehow confirms their relationship, that means no UST, angst etc. One would think you'd be happy about it.

If Sam and Jack could really have a mature, adult conversation that wasn't steeped in awkwardness and then move on to do whatever the mission of the moment is in a professional way. For instance:
"Are you ready to go on your mission with Daniel to procure the necessary technology?"
"Yes. Are you ready to go on your mission with Teal'c and Cam (if he's in the movie) to procure us a spaceship?"
"Yes. OK, then. I know you'll both do a great job and we'll meet you at the coordinates as planned. I love you and good luck!"
"I love you too. Make sure Teal'c doesn't hit Cam too much."
*insert small smooch here*
"All right, team. Let's go save Siler!!"
*and off they go* (some of us can add an optional little hair ruffle from Jack and Daniel if desired)
I still can't see it, not with the way either character has been canonically written over the last 13 years. They haven't laid solid foundations for a believable relationship, RDA hasn't acted into it, poor Amanda has worn Sam's heart on her sleeve and it's still not convincing.

Well, first off, I don't think there's any need to categorize other fans (and I suspect you may be quite a bit off on the category chosen regardless).
Secondly, I don't think marriage is the end of romance. Far from it. Unfortunately, the entertainment industry often thinks it is and doesn't portray it well. If they really are going to have Jack and Sam be together in some sense, I'd actually prefer it if they were in some sort of stable relationship after all this time (whether that be marriage or some other form of commitment).
What I really don't like is the idea that after, what...twelve or thirteen years?, they're still dithering around afraid to tell each other what they feel. To me, that just makes them both look immature and frankly a bit pathetic.
So, while I'd prefer that they are still just really good friends along with Daniel and Teal'c, I can accept them being in a mature relationship. But that certainly doesn't mean I want to SEE it!
Of course, that's just me. The shipping/non-shipping universe is so large and I am just one small fan who happens to really love Oma.
I know that's what you meant. I was saying that I wouldn't be entirely averse to something like that.
Originally posted by FrostfoxAs I said, I'm not sure what effect fan activity has on TPTB, if I was running a multimillion pound franchise, would I want to be influenced by a few online fans or would I do some sensible, unbiased research?
Fans like to gather together with fellow fen, I do with people who like what I do in SG, and with other fans in the wider world of fandom (the importance of my SG1 fandom is really tiny beside all my other fannish/ non fannish activities). Online fandom is only a tiny part of general SG1 fandom. Gateworld is only a tiny part of SG1 fandom. There are tens of thousands of fans registered on Gateworld, how many are active in the pro S/J thread? Ten? Twenty? Out of tens of thousands. This is not to knock those who do like the pairing, they are entitled to enjoy what they like, it's just to point out that they really are just a tiny proportion of SG1 fandom as a whole.
Ok, I think I'll go back to lurking and let you post in peace now

When Jack is going off to rescue Daniel, remember how many violins got smothered in syrup and how much Vaseline was poured on the camera lens when shooting Sam? It's not just about scripting a perfectly sensible scene, it's the directing, score, lighting, mood and acting as well. It was such an embarrassment last time, I do hope they don't do it again in film three.

Oh dear god yes.....*gag*....ruined a bloody good storyline that did!...

And I promise I'll never come into the S/J thread and try and persuade you that it's all a load of old cobblers....

But maybe I'm just in a good mood because there's finally a little bit of sunshine today.

Besides the fact that we don't share your opinion is hardly a reason for such derogatory comments about the real people. Say whatever you like about the ship, that's what the thread is for, but please show some respect towards other fans. Because when all is said and done we are all still fans of the same show.
Let's keep the name calling and discussion of the opposing fandom out of this thread. It's disrespectful and uncalled for and has never been tolerated or condoned in this thread.
They like what they like and we don't. Stick to the discussion of problems with the pairing because that is fair game and not the fandom that ships them.IMO always implied.

Maybe I'm getting senile, but have we ever, in 13 years, seen Jack smile at Sam? I don't mean a smirk, I mean a full, open smile? Like Sam smiles at Pete or Jack smiles at Sara or Daniel. Have they ever said 'I love you?' Have they had a meaningful conversation I have fast forwarded over?
We've seen the odd (and unwarranted) snog, perhaps Amanda is right in the 'animal attraction, let them have a night of rumpy pumpy and get it over with' (as long as we don't have to watch. Shudder)?

As far as the smiling thing. *shrug* Haven't watched any SG-1 in a while. There are bound to be a couple but then again Jack wasn't a really big/often smiler to the best of my recollection.IMO always implied.

On a serious note I would say that even 45 year old men don't wish to see other 45 year old men semi naked in the act of fornication even if the women is the ever beautiful Amanda Tapping.
Oh God, what if they did have a S/J sex scene back in S1. The shippyness would be through the roof!sigpicIn Islamofascist Afghanistan, pain experiences you!"The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get." ~ AFSOC MOUT Instructor

But the whole problem with S/J, even in season one, is that the way it was written, they disrupted and distorted what made SG1 great; the fabulous team interaction in order to facilitate the 'relationship' - which is what most of the posters in the thread object to (hence the name of the thread itself).
