Jack O'Neill/ Sam Carter - Part of a team, not a ship
Well said, FF. I agree, it's probably a dead donkey now. And I give major props to RDA for what he said at Avalon - about them wanting to stay true to the regs. I did get the feeling from recent interviews that he didn't want to go the 'ship route, that he just wanted Jack and Sam to be friends.
RDA and the show runners have always been very proud of the US Airforce support for the show, so that doesn't surprise me at all. They all knew that they couldn't show two officers in a compromising situation.
I can't wait to see The Shroud, especially if Daniel is the main reason Jack's there. It'll be great to see some long overdue - hopefully meaningful - interaction between them, without the spectre of S/J ship looming overhead.
Oh yeah!
Spoiler:
But I really, really want interaction between Jack and all the 'Big Three' - without the shippy rubbish, just good old fashioned team. The way it used to be, it might be our last chance to see them all together.

Spoiler:
Oh, definitely! It's still all about the team and it always will be. I hope we get to see at least a glimmer of it, if it will be our last chance.
ALL that I gotta state is take a page lesson from the Lee/Kara mess Ronald D. Moore and Co. made on Battlestar.
Pairing main characters of an ensemble cast is a no no. The military aspect of SG1 and the fact that it takes place on Earth during the 21st century provides a fail safe to the idea of interpersonal romance between Sam and Oneill.

Which is why I was disappointed that Stargate went down that same, yawn, clichéd path. The first few years were fine and then BANG! No Sam can't stand on her own as a character! Of course she can only have value, can only be a real woman if she has a man.
It came out of the blue and made a sad mockery of all AT's hard work on the show for years, showing us a strong, kick ass, woman who was interesting and real and didn't need a partner to validate her. Suddenly she was the girl, end of story and when RDA left, they just left Sam wallowing and directionless and it's not fair and it ticks me off to see such a good actress, such a good character wasted on such bilge.

FF feeling the urge to rant, obviously!
Don't worry she's moving to Atlantis and they'll go for Sam/Rodney soon (no more directionless Sam)...
I'm afraid I'm no more in favour of Sam/Rodney than Sam/Jack (I suppose the only comfort would be that it wasn't illegal but it's cold comfort!)

What's worrying me now is that they will ruin the last ten episodes, not with Sam/Jack but with Daniel/Vala - there's rumour of a kiss to come...
There's so many rumours and spoilers going around at the moment, these days nothing TPTB do would suprise me
I wish they could just leave the shipping out of it altogether, I really would hate to see another Moebius/Threads type of thing. D/V IMO is just as bad, if not worse than S/J, even if it is some AU/time travel thing, not something I want to see especially given that this is the end of the show (as we know it anyway).
As said before I wish they would just stick to team friendship, something we haven't seen much of this season.
I am thinking (and hoping) that the kiss is indeed not D/V, but...
Spoiler:
C/V. A friend told me she saw a clip for the ep where Mitchell and Vala attend his high school reunion together and they end up kissing.
Hopefully that is the dreaded "kiss" we've been hearing about. I'm with you though, grasshopper... some good old friendship between the team is sorely needed.
Which is why I was disappointed that Stargate went down that same, yawn, clichéd path.
Exactly. I thought it was interesting to finally see a main female character a part of a male team and NOT have it become about her hooking up with one of the main male characters. It's such a boring formula choice to have them add in the main actress might/might not get with main actor subplot. It was great to see the friendships evolve but stay in the friendship area at the same time. Why do writers feel the need to throw in romance when they already have such fascinating friendships to work with?
In fact, I really enjoyed Upgrades as a team episode and I loved seeing Jack stay true to his "leaving no one behind" attitude and then to see Teal'c and Daniel also stay which again is why Divide & Conquer came as a surprise. Actually even after watching D&C I didn't realize it was shippy until coming online and reading other people's thoughts because I figured Jack cared more about his whole team than he was supposed to and that's what he meant. Why would I think otherwise since Daniel and Teal'c had also stayed behind. I figured it was because they too cared more about their team than they're supposed to. All four of them are prepared to die for each other if it came to that and we've even see that happen through the years and we've also seen them make mistakes or choose to ignore orders on behalf of one another which again means all four of them care more about each other than they're supposed to. It doesn't automatically mean they do so in the romantic sense to me. That's what makes them such an interesting team and great friends/family. I hate that their dynamic was messed with to push in shippy things.
There's something that I'm still confused by though. When exactly did fishing become a ship thing? Because as far as I can tell, Jack also asked Daniel to go AND we've even seen Teal'c actually go there. I just don't get it. I've also heard something about cake or pie which I don't get either. Maybe it's one of those ship things that I'm not meant to understand.
Spoiler:
As for The Shroud, I'm with you guys. I'd really love to see some nice team moments with Jack interacting with his whole team and having them NOT feel it necessary to throw in pointless ship stuff. As for the kiss, I'd rather there not be one at all but since there apparently is, I'd actually be okay with C/V because in the Bounty it seems like it'd be one of those "I'll kiss you to throw the high school so and so off" and that would mean it's not meant in any serious regard.

I'd comment on this, but I just got green and a nasty comment from a S/J shipper on how I'm so full of crap because I hate any ship that interferes w/my own... and how my sig banner "proves" it.
Guess I'll stop posting here now so this person will stop bugging me.... It still won't turn me into a S/J shipper, though.
Did anyone else get anything like this from any S/J shippers?

That doesn't sound right you got GREEN for being ANTI S/J from a S/J SHIPPER ???
Shouldn't that have been RED ???

Aw Jess, I'm sorry that happened but don't let a bitter jerk like that keep you from expressing your opinions, especially not in here. It's people like that who can't accept that not everyone likes their pairing and also apparently can't read since you've repeatedly said that you don't want any ship onscreen.
