You're not overthinking things, Suse. I went back and forth trying to solve that particular puzzle. I was so frustrated I almost added a bit to my GW user info stating that I do survey research in the vain *cough* hope that someone will hit me up for free consultation and we can have better fandom surveys in the future.

The way I finally resolved it was to frame those questions as "How much have you enjoyed these aspects of the show?" I then took a rough average over all the relevant seasons, but gave s9-10 slightly more weight. I figured they couldn't be talking about now only because of their inclusion of choices like Hammond, Fraiser, and O'Neill. :shrug again: And don't get me started on having Hammond & Landry mixed in with the recurring guests. :twitch: However, I also figured there should be some reflection of my opinion of how things are right now.

It's messy and riddled with error, but what can you do? At this point, they've probably already had hundreds of submissions. They can't change the instructions -- legitimately -- unless they throw out all the old votes and extend the polling period.

we waited to call my sisters until the next morning, knowing wouldn't make a difference, let them sleep, and i remember calling themand leavng a message on tiher answer machines to call me

definitely was not an easy weekend even though she'd been sick and we knew she was dying
Yeah. It never is easy...no matter if it's expected or not. They each have their own horrors, and their own reliefs.

Oh, when I was doing it, I got the impression that it wasn't so much as 'how do you rate the actual humour/action of the show?', but more 'do you like humour/action in the show?'

Fishing for a reel? Nope. For dinner maybe. Compliments even. Or in DEMs case a reaction. But why would Dem/I fish for a reel?

One must fish the way a *real* hunter would. Like a fish*whisperer*.

Here fishy fishy. Be the fish!

there are other issues with the survey

such as 'no opinion' should be the default, not 'excellent'

having excellent as the default increases the risk that someone could make a decision in error.

it also makes the presumption that, if you watch the show, you MUST have a singular favorite character. I enjoy atlantis yet i don't connect with any of the characters to have a favorite (beyond my Lorney porney of course )

Ah that great Kansan humor we all know and love.

*considers adding snark about fellow Kansan Mitchell's humor and wisely opts not to for fear of being thwapped by an irate skydiver named Skydiver*

                  bite yo tongue woman

mitch may have gone to school here, but he is NOT a kansan. we may be hicks, but we're not hillibllies

at lest i have one thing in my favor, the chances of these guys googling Kansas high schools and picking the one i went to are slim...despite the fact that i'm in one of the two cities in the state that have AF bases

here's hoping and praying they go for wichita instead of Topeka (and we all know they'll ignore the fact that wichita is about 5 hours drive from colorado springs, topeka is 7+...they'll just nip down for the afternoon and be back in a flash)

Dingdingdingdingding! This is what I am hoping. Nothing like telling people they have a flawed survey. Which is fine if they want to say humor is wanted. Not so fine if they want to say *I* said the humor in S9/S10 was spot on.

It didn't help that I had just taken a 3 mile long survey that I was yelling at for asking *too* much information.

                    So,, when does S10 wrap?

Some of the questions didn't offer satisfactory answers either. And I know having an answer like 'Download Stargate episodes through alternative sources' isn't exactly what you want to show the desicion makers at SciFi, but there's not much point muddling up survey results because the answers didn't cover all the options.

And as for the crying (yes again) let's not forget that Jack shed a tear in ITLOD when he thought Sam was dying and Janet was trying to save her life, so it's not just Sam who has shed tears in the show
Absolutely. Tour de force as always. She's an amazing actor.
                          Spoiler:
It's not about shedding tears (for me), it's about WHEN those tears are shed. 'Nuff said - refer to my earlier post for clarification if necessary.
