I'm fairly certain my cat agrees, does that count? She doesn't like Mitchell at all, but she's very sweet and purry when we're watching Sam, and she seems to like Teal'c too.

I think she will struggle with that. It isn't a place I would like to put her in anyway!!
At least not in a public forum. That's why you and I and Astro are taking her to a private pub.

OK he was the lead pilot, but it doesn't seem that he would have any of the other qualifications which if anyone else was applying to the SGC would need to have. After all the training the cadets (Proving Ground) went through he should of at the least had training or TPTB should at least reference that he had training before turning up at Cheyenne Mountain.

They've made a big deal of him reading all the files but surely that doesn't make him capable?

So basically why do they have a leader who is inexperienced and definitely inept at times leading when Sam who has 8 years previous experience is just the 'scientist'.

          It just doesn't make sense
Welcome to Samanda! I've not met you before. I'm ÜberSG-1Fan....but call me Mary Beth (my real name), MB (personal nickname), Über (but DON'T use the U without the umlaut...it looks nekkid and lonesome all by itself), Oooober, Oooobs or "hey you." I respond to them all.

I am the Royal Pain in the Mik'ta in our fair kingdom...and should you stick around...which I hope you do, you'll figure out why.

There are very few requirements to stay in our fair kingdom. First and foremost, you must pledge your allegiance to the Royal flag and your undying loyalty to our queen, Amanda Tapping and you must give up your first born child to move to Iceland to set up a colony in her name. Wait...that was a bit extreme, hey? Okay, okay...I'll tone it down a bit. You DON'T have to pledge your undying loyalty to Amanda. See??? I'm not such a meanie after all, now am I???

That Pain in the Mik'ta thing beginning to make sense now, hey?

Okay. Here are the REAL rules.

          1. Have fun talking about Amanda/Sam. Dissect what you do and don't like about her character and post fun pictures and fan art and play games. Talk about what you want to see in Sam or what you'd love to see Amanda do outside of SG-1. Discuss if you go to a con or get some cool Amanda fan thing...like an autographed piccie or if you see her on tv or in a magazine.

          2. Be respectful of others. The motto for our little neck of the internet is "Hic Comitas Regit"...which roughly translates as "Send Ooooooober all your money." Oh wait...that's not right. That should be "Send Mary Beth all your money." Much better. *giggles* Okay, okay!!! I'll be good this time. Hic Comitas Regit means "Kindness Reigns Here." (See?? I can be good if I put my mind to it.) This does not mean that you have to love every other character and gush over how wonderful they are...but it DOES mean that you need to be respectful of other people's feelings and not rail harshly on other characters. Teasing is one thing but out and out ranting is another. We have another thread for that.

I know this because I sometimes go off on wild tangents about one specific character that I don't like...which happens to be Mitchell. Then I remember there are other people here who DO like that character and I imagine how I'd feel if they were talking about someone I loved. I THINK I've toned down and have reigned in my irkdom so as not to hurt the feelings of others. If I haven't...I ask that all Samandans call me on it.

There are many people here who like Mitchell and Vala and Daniel and Teal'c and Jack etc. so don't worry about liking him. You're allowed to like and appreciate whoever you want.

For the record, I think I would have liked a Major Mitchell very much and the points you raise are valid I think. I want to believe that things work out in the end and hold on to the hope of a lot more Stargate and Carter and Amanda.

The fact is that SG1 being set in the present time dealing with characters which are believable, has teased out the real sexism in the industry and probably in the Sates and beyond. Not only do we get the "All American Hero" which is sterotypically a handsome male, but Sam's established smartness and value to the team has to be lessened and also offset by a scanitly dressed sex tease. Just so all us women out here fully understand that we could never fulfill a command role in anything so serious - and that we also recognise exactly what men want us to be. There for their pleasure

What can you do but shake you head and feel sorry for how pathectic TPTB are!!

Even if a demotion to major is too harsh, I would like to see an episode where Mitchell messes up offworld and there is an investigation, which also examines his actions in Season Nine and recommends that he be removed from command.

Sam, Daniel and Teal'c can rally round and argue the case for him to be allowed to remain on SG-1.

Of course, I'll probably see a pig flying around my back garden singing the Irish national anthem in Greek before I see that episode.

I have to resist the temptation to write the story, at least until I'm finished my assignment for the Sam ficathon and at least one other WIP.

I'll let you know if I ever see the flying, singing pig. It will be a sign that there is still hope for Season Ten.

Just caught up with posts, and I agree with golfbooy. Why not ask AT the leadership question? I still think it shows that fans care about it.

Also, if people are worried about putting her in a an awkward position by talking about leadership, well what about the Sam/Jack ship (which will surely get asked)? Sam/Jack ship also puts her in an awkward position because some fans like it, some hate it, and some don't care. Anything she says about this issue too could also get different reactions from different fan groups (and what actually happens with Sam/Jack ship is up to TPTB, not her ). But I would understand if a fan wanted to ask her about it.

I guess I wouldn't want AT to get questions about Sam's love life, and yet nothing about Sam's career. I would think she's been doing cons for years and would expect all these types of questions.

I think that at the Vancouver con, if she had not had a leadership question, she may have even wondered why fans didn't ask about it and maybe people aren't that concerned about the leadership issue for Sam.

Does any of this make sense?

With all due respect to everyone posting here, I can't for the life of me come up with a good reason not to ask AT about her feelings regarding the leadership debacle. I understand the desire to spare AT an uncomfortable situation, and I definitely agree that BW and RCC should be asked about it as well. But the only way that AT will ever get the chance to speak about the issue is if she's prompted to by a question. It's not as if AT can bring up the subject herself without it seeming unpropitious and a bit unprofessional. It's certainly not going to come up in one of the magazine interviews that are always so happy, happy, happy that it's cringeworhty. If she does indeed feel uncomfortable or out of place truthfully answering the question, then the lady is far and away tactful enough and experienced enough at this game to either bluntly decline to comment or deflect it with humor or sarcasm. I'm sure she's expecting to get asked about it. And, just as was the case with the GABIT convention last year, I don't believe that AT will say anything publicly that she doesn't really want to say. But she does deserve the opportunity to address the issue, if she so desires. It's been my experience that having everyone dance around an unpleasant question or circumstance usually does nothing but make an experience all the more unpleasant. Pretending the issue doesn't exist is just that--pretending. Put it out there and let what may or may not be said be said.

On a side note, I find myself wondering if I've perhaps missed a spoiler somewhere that idicates that Mitchell gets promoted by General Magwitch.
