which COULD make sam's little visit all the more important if that's the case. that jolinar's legacy is a way to make people immune to and thus defeat the wraith?

Originally posted by LysI'm not sure Jack has the protein marker. As far as I remember, Sam has it because Jolinar died within her. Kanan left Jack. I don't think he left anything but bad memories to Jack.
And what would Janet, Teal'c and Jack do with only the protein marker ? Isn't it the naquadah in Sam's blood that's supposed to make Goa'uld stuff work ?
As Sam able to use Ancient technology because she has the Ancient gene, I'm not sure I'd love it. It has a bad taste of "Super Sam" for me. I'd like better if she was frustrated because she couldn't make it work at first but try to find a way to bypass the gene switching on Merlin's devices or others. Of course, it works, but I like it better when Sam has to explore a device, put it apart, try something and then something else to make it work. I don't want to see her find a device, put her hand on it, see it glow and then only have to say "Cool!".
However, if you remember in the episode Legacy, Daniel was infested by several of Machello's organism which caused him to go a bit looney. At the beginning of the episode Fraiser explained why the bodies they found in the tomb didn't have symbiotes in them.
FRAISER: The Goa'uld died before their hosts. We know this due to a unique protein marker left in Goa'uld bodies or host bodies after a Goa'uld dies.
CARTER: The same protein marker that was left in my body after Jolinar was killed?
FRAISER: Yes.
Everyone assumes that Daniel has gone crazy until the organism leaves his body and enters Teal'c, but because the devices were created as a means to kill a gou'ald, it began to kill Teal'c as well. Daniel finally recovers from the affects of the organism and is capable of telling them about hearing Machello's voice and they make the connection between the device they found on the planet and another one they found in Machello's labratory.
Upon testing the device, ten new organisms are released and they infect Sam, Janet and Jack. Within minutes, Sam's organisms die because they detect the protein marker.
CARTER: Whoa! Oh, I think I spoke too soon.
DANIEL: What's wrong?
CARTER: Oh, God, something's happening.
The organisms come out of her ear and drop to the floor. She bends down and pokes them to check they are dead.
CARTER: I think they're dead. Daniel, I could have sworn I heard.
DANIEL: Machello?
CARTER: Yes. He said my Goa'uld captor is dead, but I don't have a Goa'uld.
DANIEL: You did.
CARTER: That has to be it. Janet said that when a Goa'uld dies, it dissolves into a host and leaves a unique protein marker.
DANIEL: So these Goa'uld killing inventions die because they detect the protein marker? That doesn't make any sense. Why isn't Jack immune? He should have some sort of protein marker left over from Hathor's Goa'uld.
CARTER: No. No. That Goa'uld left Colonel O'Neill's body and died before it had a chance to take over. Janet, can you hear me? Can we extract my blood and inject it into everyone that's infected.
So they extract the protein marker from Sam's blood and inject it into Janet, Jack and Teal'c hoping it will do the same thing for them, and just before Fraiser gives Teal'c the serum she says:
FRAISER: Okay. Well, I don't know if this is going to work. He'll have the marker but he'll still have a Goa'uld larva. Depends on how smart Machello made the little beggars.
So therefore, I would assume that Teal'c, Janet and Jack all have the same unique protein marker as Sam.

There is nothing to suggest it was something that should exist persistantly in anyone that was injected.
Well at least that's my take on the issue. I didn't feel it needed to be revisited for that reason.

Originally posted by ForeverSg1I guess I can see your point, but wouldn't Sam's original protein marker eventually leave her body as well if this were the case? I guess I always looked at it more like a vaccination. Once you have been given the polio vaccination it leaves a type of marker within your body to prevent you from ever obtaining the disease.
Sam had a whole symbiote dissolve inside her. Jack, Janet and Teal'c would only have got a few cells worth apiece.

Originally posted by ReganXBut there are other vaccinations, like tetanus and MMR, that you need to get boosters for to keep your immunity. Maybe the protein marker could be like that.

If this is the explanation and if for once there's consistent writing, we should expect Vala's abilities to use Goa'uld technology to also wear off sometime in the future.

I think it may be different with Sam. The Goa'uld bonded with her, had a chance to mess with her immune system then died. When your immune system is tweaked by things, sometimes they never actually go. I don't see her ever loosing it.
As for why it didn't work with Daniel. I don't think she ever found out how to use it, and being really close to the situation wouldn't have helped her ability to concentrate.Disclaimer: All opinions stated within this post are relevant to the author herself, and do not in any way represent the opinions of God, Country, The Powers That Be or Greater Fandom.

Originally posted by LysI think you're correct. At first, you'll find high levels of the protein marquer and then when time passes, the levels decrease. If we assume the protein marker and the naquadah left by Jolinar in Sam's blood work this way, it could be the reason why she couldn't make the healing device work on Daniel almost 4 years after Jolinar and why she could make it work on Cronus only 1 year after Jolinar.
If this is the explanation and if for once there's consistent writing, we should expect Vala's abilities to use Goa'uld technology to also wear off sometime in the future.
Is it naquadah or the protein marker or both that allows somebody to use Goa'uld technology?
If it's naquadah, then it would make sense that Jack, Janet and Teal'c wouldn't be able to use Goa'uld technology since that would probably be heavy enough to have been separated along with the red blood cells.
