All of the four original members of SG-1 get various medals and commendations for their years of valorous service and sacrifice. With a ceremony on screen for all to see - actually showing Daniel and Teal'c receiving one of their awards - given by O'Neill (Daniel's) and Carter (Teal'c's). Then references in conversation regarding the some of the other awards received. D&T should get the highest awards available for civilians (non-USmilitary).

It would be cool to see Carter get what she deserves in a setting that emphasizes the team and the efforts of all four of the original SG-1 members. It would seriously help to provide closure to what has been lost.
If only the writers would use this idea. I love it! It brings back the team/family element that has been missing through out S9. SG-1 is recognized for all their years of loyalty, bravery, and sacrifices!

        Spoiler:
Landry took him aside and reminded him why he wanted Carter, Daniel, and Teal'c to be on his team in the first place: "so he could learn from the best." One of the biggest issues I had with Mitchell this season was that he never took their advice when it differed from what he wanted to do or what he believed. When Sam asked him to stay on earth in Arthur's Mantle... off he went. When she (they) told him not to get involved in Off the Grid, did he listen? No. Sure, he demonstrated that he was in command and could do whatever he wanted, but I would like him better if he actually paid attention to the far more experienced members of his team when they provided him with sound advice that went against his initial instincts. It didn't seem like he learned anything this season. This was compounded by the fact that he knew every detail about SG-1's past missions.

The Landry/Mitchell cabin scene could be a learning experience for him... unfortunately, I don't have much faith that the episode will be anything other than a "you're doing great, but you need to take a firmer hand in command now that you're promoted" pep-talk, with Mitchell going out and saving the team at the end to ensure that they see him properly as the hero he is. (And I do so hope I'm wrong about this.)
If they do finally have this discussion regarding who is in charge of SG-1 and if it is to be Mitchell then I want to see Landry tell Mitchell...
        Spoiler:

That Sam did not come back to the SGC voluntarily to be the 2IC of SG-1. That her return to the SGC came due to orders much higher up who felt Sam's skill and knowledge would best be utilized against the Ori if she were a member of the SGC's flagship team instead of Area 51; and while Mitchell may have already been officially given the command of SG-1, Sam was only there to provide her expertise until it was felt that Cameron and the SGC no longer needed it.

Because regardless of who is leading SG-1, I still can't believe Sam just one day decided Ya know... I change my mind. I really do want to be a member of SG-1 again, even if it means taking a demotion in position.

          Thank You!!!!

Gah. I think I read the Leader thread too much because sometimes I find myself seriously wondering where I got my ideas about Sam Carter's aspirations as an officer -- i.e., whether I've been projecting or making junk up in my head.

Yep. That makes absolutely nooo sense - especially when you think about how great a job like Head of R&D (or more?) is for one's career. The gigantuan step backwards is just too hard to ignore.

I know I see Sam who has worked her butt off to get where she is, and being a leader saying its ok to be 2IC. She's too ambitious for that! She's not the type to let people walk all over her. She has always shown she has a back bone, and I don't see any Lt. Col. giving up the option to be leader of a group, not 2IC

THis is my biggest problem too! I see it as a demotion for the one time leader of SG-1 (Sam who has been training for the position for 7 years and led the team for one) to be bumped back down to allow a newbie (someone who has never seen the gate, never been through the gate, air force pilot with little to no field experience)in Stargate to be leader of the flagship team.

Maybe that's why the gate has been absent a lot this year and the ships have been more predominate. hmmmm ... just a thought.

and I recall when Mitchell was begging her to come back via satellite, she explained that if the world needed saving, she's be back to help.

Very true! And wasn't he also worried that he wouldn't be able to do the job or worried he would screw it up ... something to that effect?

LANDRY: Jack…Jack, Jack! She practically invented the Mark IX, and you're the one who thinks we should use the damned thing. Why are you wasting valuable time saying no? I've read enough of your SG-1 mission reports to know that there were times when no one else but Samantha Carter could have pulled your ass out of the fire. Well, this is one of those ti—

                      CARTER: Reporting as ordered, sir.

LANDRY: Yeah. She's standing right here. You're a funny man, Jack. Very funny.
My interpretation of that is that O'Neill has direct authority over Carter's assignments.
Yes, but noone seems to take into consideration that Jack was in fact breaking frat rules by fraternizing with his team members outside of work in the first place. So is Mitchell if he truly is leader of SG-1. How can these rules be any different if outside of work your subordinates are your buddies, who go out for drinks and movies with you, or your girlfriend? You still have a means to be influence directly or indirectly the assignments and/or promotions of those under your command. I just find it amusing that so many people choose to close their eyes for one situations and not the other.

Yep. Highly amusing. And TPTB - at least this season - love to help out in that regard, by perpetuating the idea that some people are bound by rules that others are not.

Consuming alcohol on base? Consuming alcohol off-world? Having the CMO be the general's daughter? Wha?!

And then you get into the fact that they're going to probably suggest that Daniel and Vala have some kind of... something going on. And they kinda suggested that Lam and Cam had some kind of... something in the past. Assuming Lam is back next season at all, they'll probably play that up (though it could be something like Janet/Jack, where they never, ever bring it up again).

It all comes down to priorities. Was the alcohol on base really necessary, or did they need an obvious way of showing that it was a "bad day." Was the alcohol off-world really necessary, or did they need a way to put Cameron and Alien Chick more at ease? Daddy Dearest and Dr. McBitter? Nice conflict, I suppose, but got kinda strained towards the end - and not really in a good way. Ended very anticlimactically, actually.

But what are there priorities? On what and whom do they want to focus?

I guess we'll find out once the series starts.

Hmm, well, for me it wasn't a matter of closing my eyes; it was a matter of not knowing that the rules were that strict as to disallow any and all socialisation outside work. Learned something new today.

They're not going to have 2 women and 3 men on the team. The handwriting is on the wall. Vala has been brought in to replace Sam. I think that's been very obvious. I hope not, but I think this is where the show is heading.
don't you mean like they've already been doing in season 9, and that's *without* the s/j ship to blame?

Don't worry Dem, I wasn't directing my response at you specifically. Only at responses like that in general. But I do believe if you look at the frat rules it says dating/friendship, but it seems to have been overlooked for the past ten years so what's the point of really bringing it all up now.
