Sam Carter/Amanda Tapping Discussion/Appreciation

I just have to say how delighted I am to read this. That awful, greedy part of myself that loves Stargate and wants to see more is ecstatic at the idea of Sam Carter and Amanda Tapping sticking with it until the end. It's difficult enough for me to swallow the tale that the SGC continues on without Jack O'neill playing a significant role in daily operations. I'm really not sure I could stomach no Sam Carter as well.

That said, the rather miniscule, oft-ingnored part of myself that likes to see others happy and content is also delighted with these comments. As far as I know, this article marks the first time that Amanda Tapping has outright stated a desire to remain with the show for a significant time to come. Chris Judge and Michael Shanks have also made similar comments. So, it seems that the majority of my team will be sticking around for quite awhile. They all seem quite satisfied with their careers and lives, and they've all provided me with enough enjoyment for the last nine years that I'm happy that they're happy.

Amanda has created such an amazing character that has really knocked me for six! as my husband once made this remark when he cault sight of Amanda in full battle mode, "she really does look and act like a soldier, i could really see her in the armed forces!" and that is from a non scifi fan who was just in the room at the time the show was on!

Somthing else i would like to just say after looking at the sceen caps people have posted, Amanda's eyes are saying alot more more about her this year, i don't mean from the fact that Amanda is tired from being a new mum it's something else that imho has added a bit more depth to Sam and as the eyes imo say so much about a person i thought i'd just add that. (i hope i've made a little bit of sence about Amanda's eyes, what do you all think?)

I'll second the latter half of that sentiment. But if we never see New!Doc again, it will A-OK with me.

the only logic is that Sci-Fi/the writers of SG1 couldn't write for a female leader. It's not only insulting to the character, it's also insulting to the fans and the actress and the show as a whole.

They couldn't do it last season, why should they start now. I saw this coming way back when they had Sam bollix up the RepliCarter situation in Gemini. Given the fixation on the 18-to-24-year-old-male demographic, this was all too predictable (and depressing).

I think the general consensus is that AT and DH have good chemistry together, in a bit of a Daniel/Vala sort of way. Nothing happens, but they joke about it anyway.

Since much of the premise of Grace creeps me out—to say nothing of how it paved the way for the oil slick that was Pete—it wouldn't bother me in the slightest to see it reprised, or even parodied, w/ Rodney in the damsel-in-distress role. Besides, I think he & AT have way more UST than AT & RDA did. Heresy, I know, but that's my story & I'm sticking to it.

Joe doesn't trick anyone, IMO, or try to; he's just ... cagey. He certainly took a gamble by leaking the possibility of Teryl Rothery's "temporary return" to the show, several months back. Like the political nuances in Pravda, Joe has to be read very closely, with lots of attention paid to semantics.

It's no rant whatsover. If anything, it's the epitome of reasonableness. You do well to remind us that 14 weeks or so of AT is far preferable to no AT at all. I certainly hope that Don Davis is right when he predicts 14 or 15 years of Stargate and I look forward to seeing General Sam Carter as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or the national security advisor to President George Hammond.

I didn't think it was clearly defined who was in charge of SG-1.

I didn't hear Landry give Mitchell command, and just because Cam handed out the patches didn't necessarily mean that he will be in charge in the future, at least, not to my mind.

I liked the episode; Teal'c finally had an important role to play!

I loved the Jaffa getting hit by the car in the beginning... very unexpected! I also thought the fight in the building was hoot... staff weapons blowing up office cubicals... how many people have wanted to do that in real life?
I don't usually like the earth-based episodes as well, but this was a fun twist, I thought. I did wonder why noboby noticed all the UFO activity happening in the area.

I loved the look Sam and Daniel exchanged after the patch exchange. Actually, I thought that was a really good scene, and it didn't bother me at all. It was heartwarming to me, and I was just happy the team was back together. I'm afraid, however, that they are going to be split up a lot in the future, with Sam leading one half, and Cam leading the other.

I really, really dislike Gerak. I feel torn, because I admire Lou G., and I naturally want to like his character (even as a villian), but he and the writers have done such a good job that I can't stand him. I can't even like him as a villian in the same way I do Ba'al.

And speaking of Ba'al... did they just clone the host, or did they clone the symbiote, too? And if they did both, aren't the implications kind of staggering? Amusingly, after the closing scene with multiple Ba'als, one of my friends asked, "So, did anyone else think that looked like the perfect set-up for a porn flick?" We all laughed... But, I do wonder how long it will take before that shows up in fanfiction!

I was truly disappointed in the way they handled the building/bomb. Gosh, replicator transporter technology is... way over the top. Too powerful. Too deus ex machina. What can't it transport? What is the limit? Seems like it would be too easy to make it the solution to all problems. Don't like that wraith hive ship? Screw trying to beam a nuke on board! Just beam the whole ship into the nearest sun! I think TPTB opened up a can of worms that they'll regret later.

I really enjoyed seeing Barrett again. He and Sam work so well together. And At looked kind of tired to me, but she's such a great actress. It's so good to see Sam back in action.

I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the season!

Great points, Strix Varia. I was so glad to see that was CJ finally given an opportunity to have a decent role in an episode this season. He did a wonderful job. I also liked the conversation between Sam and Barrett. And I liked how Sam took charge.

This lunchtime had a quick look in WHSmiths and they have the latest Dreamwatch magazine in stock. On the front cover it says "Amanda Tapping - why I will never quit Stargate" The interview is reasonably long with a number of piccis, not too much we haven't heard, but she is happy with the character this season and says they have changed the character enough throughout the seasons to keep it interesting. Apparently she and michael shanks have been laughing about them appearing in stargate with their zimmer (walking) frames and a season 15 is being talked about around the production water cooler. - I think I have remembered all that right. So it sounds as though Amanda will be around as long as SG1 is - that is great news!!!

Sad thing is my skim reading didn't manage to pick out "why" Amanda will never quite Stargate!!!!

Coley, all I can say is, thanks so much for posting this!!! This is great news!! SG1 would not be the same without Sam---I wouldn't watch the show anymore without her. I can understand why some fans might move away from SG1 because RDA is gone for now, but for me, it is AT (and the team interaction and exploration) that keeps me watching. And like others, the last two episodes with Sam have made me excited about the rest of the season.

I can understand some people's comments about the Sam/Mitchell leadership issue. I still can't tell how they are going to handle it. For me, Sam is much more qualified than Mitchell, and I think Mitchell knows this. I do like the way Sam has been written so far---there is something different about her and I like it.

Hi tara ... nice post. I remember your saying this about your hubby pages ago and it's good to read it again. Yes, AT worked hard to make Sam come alive for all of us and that's why we probably seem defensive and over-protective of her interests at times.

As to her eyes, her wonderful "doe eyes" ... they've changed from the early seasons of wide-eyed wonder (e.g., COTG standing at the event horizon for the very first time) and surprise (Singularity as Cassie starts to reach out to her for nurturing) to the depths of loss (Threads at Jacob's bedside and likely reflecting AT's personal losses) and now show something more ....

AT is beginning a new decade today and there are new depths to who she is, a new maturity about her. It happens to us all. The eyes have it!

Offering my 2 cents on the leadership discussion, I didn’t think that the patches scene meant that Mitchell was necessarily in charge. His whole role so far in season 9 reminds me of a little brother who always watched his older sibling and friends get to do all kinds of cool stuff, while he was too young to participate. Now when he’s old enough, they’ve moved on to other things. So he keeps trying to persuade them to come back and do the cool stuff again, but with him included. By accepting the patches, they agree to come back, but it doesn’t have to mean he’s the boss. It’s just an acknowledgement that the team is together.

Just popped in for a sec.....great screen caps everyone. Wish I cold do it, but I think I'll need a miracle to figure out whu my pc won't recognize my burned DVD's.

I thought Ex Deus Machina was a fabulous show, especially with Sam back on the team.....right where she belongs. It was the first show of the whole season, where I could say, now "that's what I'm talkin' about", to quote Cam.....Stargate is back and so is SAM!!!!!
