Sam Carter/Amanda Tapping Discussion/Appreciation

I'd say stepping through the gate would be one of the best things a scientist could do though. Sam's an Astrophysist - how many of them would kill to get the chance to actually get up close and personal with the very things they study from telescopes back on Earth?
I think Sam would have a very hard time going back to telescopes and radar dishes after being able to actually get out there and feel the dirt in her hands

Perhaps but stepping through the gate as an explorer and stepping through the gate as a scientist in a scientific manner are totally different. I'm sure at times Sam wishes she had more time to spend on the actual science process. With SG-1, she acquires all the new alien technology and then in most cases she must pass it on to other scientist to actually study it. I'm not saying she doesn't enjoy her job, but I could see her eventually getting to a point where she no longer wants to continue exploring, however I couldn't see her do the same with science as a whole.

Sam wanted to be an astronaut... and she went the Air Force jet pilot route in pursuit of her goal... so I see her as wanting to continue going through the gate - exploring and finding new things.

Okay... I have to say that I laughed so hard when I read your post! Probably because I tried to do the same thing for another word... sorry Uber it wasn't your name . I didn't have any luck as well. Anyone know how to put the mark above resume in wordperfect?

For Window's users: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map

Just scroll through untill you find the character you want, then copy it into whatever program you're using. And it should also have the ALT + Keystroke (if there is one for that character) so you can use a hotkey instead of going thru the Character Map

Wow there is so much that I want to comment on, but it is way past my bed time so I will make this short as possible, mainly because my little brain it too tired.

yay. I will watch the first couple of epeisodes before AT returns. For several reasons
1)

Spoiler:

RDA will appear in the 1st and 3rd episode. They may or may not be the only episodes he is in this season, and I don't want to miss him!

2) I want to understand what is going on when AT does return.

Like many of you it will depend on how the writers portray Sam (and other stories involving Sam). I have every confidence in AT and how she will protray her character. Although, there is only so much she can do. She did have objections about several story lines in the past, and the writers listened sometimes and didn't in other times.

I really liked the show, but I can't seem to have the same enthusiasm as I have had in the past seasons about the season premier. I am happy for all of those that are excited, though. I don't want to take away from them.

As far as Mitchell leading SG-1 ... the verdict is still out on that one! I have listened to several of you and I have to say you have eased my mind a little. However, I still gringe when I think about the writers indicate they have someone else in charge of SG-1. I will watch the show to see how it will play out.

I must be in the minority here, because imho if Sam had to choose between science and stepping through the Stargate there wouldn't be a contest. I see her a woman who loves her job as a soldier and explorer, but science is more than a job to her. It's in her blood. It's her passion. Without it, she wouldn't feel complete.

i think that's her number one love too.

I have to say that I was glad to see so many open-minded "Yays," though I completely understand where the "Mehs" and the "Nay" are coming from.

let's play a game. let's pretend that we've been writing stargate since the beginning. how would 'we' have written sam in all these years?

now since we're all different in tastes and ideas, this will be interesting to see what each one of us would have done. and since we're all kind to one another here, it'll be enjoyable too.

i would have made more of a deal of sam having jolinar's memories. that would be an aspect i would have continued from the get-go after 'in the line of duty'. not make her super human, just use those skill and memories more often.

(in complete seriousness), i would have brought sam and jack together in season 4, sometime after their zaytarc testing admissions. then, through the seasons , i would have had them get married. sam would have already had her second child by now.

i would have retired jack 'from sg1' way before now, with sam taking command.

i can so *see* all of this happening, with sam coming off as a competent and accomplished scientist and soldier. all the unease and uncertainty in her private life wouldn't have been.

i can see many of the eps that have happened happening again, with only maybe a small tweak here and there.

i know some of you would cringe at my super shippiness in this, but as the writer, i would have 'balanced' the many aspects of sam's life. many of us balance both without drowning out the other.

i'm interested in hearing what others would have done with sam through the years.
