Thanks for voting in the Favorite Episodes Tournament! But your support is still needed. The game is in Round 28 now. Grace is already gone, and I hate to see any more Sam-centric eps voted out.
Oh and AstroG...I PM'd you...please let me know if you didn't get it...
Thanks!
Mary Beth
I did get it, Uber - and thanks, I already made the changes for you and Kat
I finished the card/note to go with the SaGC Collection when I mail it. UberSG-1Fan and ForeverSG-1 both graciously agreed to let me use their wonderful Sam Carter banners for the front of the card and I printed it on glossy photo paper. Inside the card I put an abbreviated version of the Foreward that is inside the Collection. I also included the thread URL as the 'return address'.

*sniff* my first milestone {yeep} and I thought I'd pop in here to make it coz Samandans rock. I've been a little absent lately, but only because I've had a special technical assignment from the queen involving a sidecar for the princess to be attached to the Indian.....
I wanted to throw something out there with my 100th post. Everyday I see Amanda Tapping in a brighter and brighter light. Partly because of Sam Carter, partly because of Amanda's beautiful warmth and unending generosity. But much of it comes by comparison. I hold a moderation position in the official board of another actress and let me tell you. Amanda Tapping gets it. Where others don't, this woman does. I've been holding her name up to TPTB in my other fandom as a shining example of what should be done. Maybe they'll listen (I can only hope) and maybe they won't, but I feel content that I've contributed a brilliant example of how a television personality can treat fans. Amanda has paved the way as far as I'm concerned and is the best in her field on several levels and I'm not talking about the performance (which is outstanding at all times).
In recognising Amanda's strength in sharing herself with us, it must be noted that she doesn't do it alone. Very few stars do. So I'd like to throw a shout out to Amanda's staff too. I have no idea how many there are, but brilliant job guys! I've seen what goes into the upkeep of a personality and what kind of time constraints are involved, and these people are champs... seriously. So three Samandan cheers for Amanda & her people.
Ok I'm done for now... but I feel priveleged to be able to look to Amanda as a role model, a source of entertainment and an example of the better person I'd like to be.
Congratulations on your 1000th post, Myrth!
And thanks for posting it here - and for such a wonderful exposition as well!
Here's some of the Royal Blue
Oh and on this Sam leadership issue...a few things stick out for me.
ONE...I don't want the Sam Bashers argument to be given any weight with something like "SEE?? TPTB don't have any faith in her either..."
TWO...We saw so little of Sam in Command in Season 8...due to a whole ton of reasons...RDA, budget, yadda...and Amanda's returning late because of her little lovey dovey Olivia...so then, will Sam as a character have to suffer because of real world issues? Will we leave that side of her personality and character under-explored because of things that transpired in real life? I hope not. I hope TPTB don't waste that opportunity.
THREE...For WHATEVER excuse TPTB have come up with for Sam leaving, the reality is that she will return. And when she returns, she'll be on SG-1. Now, I tried putting myself in the same situation. Would I want to return to a team I lead as something less than what I was when I left? Would you? Would Sam, the ambitious officer that she is really be happy as 2IC again? I don't think I would. I'd feel as though people didn't have faith in my leadership abilities...Like I said above, if they pigeon-hole her as "the scientist" and neglect areas they barely touched on last season...well, it would be a real waste IMHO...which leads me to...
FOUR...Sam's proven herself as a scientist. She does that well...we ALL get that. Now, I want to see other sides of her. I don't want her crammed in that little box and not grow beyond being a great scientist. I want to see her grow in a new area...see her leadership style. Maybe it's awkward...she's certainly NOT O'Neill, but she's Sam and she has leadership skills that are just sitting there begging to be explored. AGAIN, if TPTB do what I fear they'll do, it'll be a wasted opportunity.
Well...there you have it...My 2 cents. That and a $2.50 might get you a decent cup of coffee at Java J's...
...You're ALWAYS Welcome in Samanda: Amanda's Community of New Fans and Old Friends...
my job this month is to be the sam fic reccer for a group on live journal. I've recced some sam fic, but i need more.
can you guys post or send to me some titles and authors of some good sam fic? shippy, slashy or gen, it's all the same to me.
I've already found a good dozen fic, and i'd have more if helio's links were working, but i know that the folks here have plenty of other good fic to rec
Sky,
I'd recommend Strix's 'The Knife's Edge of Madness' - that is such a great story and it would make a fantastic episode
And I'm sure that you've already rec'd TokraHostess'es 'The Hidden One'
And of course - just send them the link to your website - that will keep them busy for months with good Sam-fics!

Excellent!
And remember, it's ÜberSG-1Fan not UberSG-1Fan...
There's another UberSG-1Fan without the umlaut (those two little dots over the U); she has no sense of humor at all. (a play on Jack O'Neill quote from Secrets)
Mary Beth
ÜberSG-1Fan
To make a U with the umlaut, it's as easy as this:
Hold down the ALT or MAC key while typing the number then release:
ALT: 154 Ü
MAC: 134 Ü

Finally got Gateworld to recognize my log-in, so disregard this post -just making sure it works.
Nice to finally be able to join the Samanda world.
Hello to all my buddies from AT.Com!
Welcome aboard, Fiddler!
There is an 'index post' for the thread at the top of page 442 where you'll find links to thread posts with screencaps, audioclips, the results of our Sam Carter Best Episode Polls, etc.
Here's a little of the Royal Blue stock to enjoy while you browse

The alt key! Cool! Hmmm... for the card, however, I think I'll just use a black ink pen and ink in the two dots (just finished printing the card a little while ago).

i totally agree, uber, especially after i went and read some more of that crazed 'mitchell should outrank sam' thread (whatever it's called).
sam was barely given the chance to shine as the commanding officer of sg1. barely. WE know she can do it. WE know what she's made of. WE love her. i just hope THEY (writers) will give sam the chance to SHINE.
i want to see sam command sg1 with confidence and success. if she doesn't get to regain her command, then there better be a dang good reason for it. and i don't mean because she's missing a penis.
The "brains" of SG-1 is Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter, played by Amanda Tapping. <snippage>
After a string of romantic interests who met a grizzly end ...
There's no mention of the ship on Jack's bio. Why do ships always end-up on the female side?
An old, sexist trope—one which permeates most Sam/Jack fanfic, I'm afraid. If I read one more story where Sam is moping around after Jack or sighing fangirl-ishly over him ... in the meantime, I'm sticking to the angsty stuff (and the smutfics, of course; angsty smut is best of all).
Now about this "grizzly" [sic!] end: is the biographer implying that Jonas H., Orlin, Martouf, Narim, Ambassador Joe, etc. were all eaten by grizzly bears?
Even if they were, that would be a "grisly" end, rather than a "grizzly" one. At least they got it right about Sam being the brains of the operation. She must have a hollow leg to store all that extra gray matter.
Sorry if this is kinda off-topic, but I'm kinda proud of myself, and I wanted to make a big deal of it here because I knew some of you would understand where I'm coming from...
IT'S MY 1000th POST!!!!!!!!
WHOO HOO!
OK. That is all. Thank you for indulging me there.
But I have to ask... What happens now?
Congrats on Post 1000, dancer!!!
Unfortunately, I can't send any green (as usual... ) for this, or for your brilliant post on our Queen's leadership abilities - wonder if the heretic actually took the time to read it? It's certainly given me food for thought as I continue my journey towards enlightenment.
(And thanks to Über for posting your post.)

On this night of Samandan celebration the Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service goes to our Keeper of the Flame for her dedication and devotion to the completion of the Samandan Archive. She has proven herself to be a true Samspecialist, First Class!

astro, I've just realised that in the midst of everything, I've never actually thanked you for putting the SaGC Collection together. So, er, BIG THANKS for putting the SaGC Collection together!!!
Every time I see the pictures of it, I can't help but get this great big, happy-as-a-pig-in-manure, grin on my face. Admittedly, this tends to make people look at me like I'm some kind of weirdo, but that's their problem.
