Here's my issue on the whole Mitchell/Carter thing. If he is a Lt. Colonel - and so is Sam, who gets to make the final decision while in the field? Sure, Sam has the most experience and would be logical, but Mitchell is her equal in rank. Why couldn't he have just stayed a major? Let Sam be in charge of SG-1 or promote her. It's just frustrating that TPTB have done what they've done.

And I'm trusting Mitchell to accept that Sam has really much more experience than him in the field. I think she's going to make the final decision. Or maybe TPTB are going to avoid the issue and split the team : Mitchell/Teal'c on one side and Sam/Daniel on the other side. Or maybe I should say Sam/Teal'c and Mitchell/Daniel to please Skydiver.

Woo! Thanks Lida and Chopin Gal. Well here it is, my 1000th post and I can't express how much fun each and every one has been here among all of you. You ladies and gents truly are a great group of people.

So in honor of this momentous occassion, at least for me, I had intended to bestow upon you my nomination for Samanda's new flag. However after talking with MajorSam, I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't really look much like a flag, but it does make a very nice postcard.

I hope so, Lys. If Sam's still in the military (and I'm thinking more so know that she is), I hope that Mitchell knows that she's the one he needs to defer to when she gets called back to the base. I don't think that they can promote her to a full bird just yet as you need to spend a certain amount of time in this particular rank. Maybe somewhere down the line, our Sam can be a Colonel. Wouldn't that be sweet?

I just get this feeling that Carter and Mitchell will have mutual respect for one another, and that sounds good to me. Carter has alot more experience through the gate and has vast knowledge of alien technology, gate technology etc.. , and the way that BB is saying he is playing Mitchell sounds like he is going to defer when he needs to. Mitchell will have some great qualities too or he wouldn't be promised a position on SG-1, and my guess is Sam will respect his strengths and abilities as well. I for one actually look forward to the two actors together, along with the team. Time will tell.

I know you seemed a little bummed that Carter was still in the military, and I can understand your point.

For me, it would be out of character for Carter to leave the military. Although she is a scientist first, the military is as much a part of her, IMO. I would hate to see her leave her AF career---it isn't easy for a woman to get promoted to Lt. Col, and her military/piloting skills are also integral to her character and add to what makes her tick. And for me I like having two military and to non-military on the team.

You made some great points, chocdoc. I am getting more anxious for the new season to start that I thought I would. After reading several articles and seeing the promos, I think Mitchell will be a good friend/colleague to Sam. Sometimes, speculation can be bad, because I don't want to be disappointed when something actually airs. I try to stay away from spoilers, but they're so tempting. I agree with all of you ... and, to use a well-worn cliche, "one picture is worth a thousand words". The whole look of Sam Carter in the new group promo photo shows confidence, competence, and such presence!

"Don't tread on me" ... let's hope that the real Sam Carter will be stepping through that Stargate with all the spunk and spark we've been missing in the latter seasons! AT looks like she is definitely ready to rock and roll!

Thanks, everyone, for approving the motto. It actually gets even better than I thought ... I just spent some web time on various Latin translation sites to make sure that we are saying what we want to ... and here's what I found:

"comitas" can be translated as not just kindness, but also courtesy, friendliness, and civility or good will

"regit" can be translated as not just reigns, but rules, directs, and guides

So, I'm LOL because I don't think that we've found the motto of Samanda at all ... I think the motto found us! All these words seem to apply!

Let's keep with the original though as it reflects our Queen's own philosophy:

HIC COMITAS REGIT ... KINDNESS REIGNS HERE
