So I work at a museum and today we found that a four year old boy had just been abandoned there by himself! His mom dropped him off and told him not to leave and she left! He wasn't a very good talker and didn't know his last name or his parents names. Child protective servicesh ad to come and pick him up! Poor thing

But at least she left him in the museum, which is a child safe place where we cared for him and called the proper authorites. I can't imagine if she had left him outside or in a park or something.
I cannot believe that, poor kid . I can't believe some parents are like that . Do you know what will happened now with CPS and the boy? You know this reminds me of something that happened to me at work yesterday.

I was walking to the front of the store, and this mom (I assume it was the mom) was pushing her little baby in a stroller and her little 3 or 4 year daughter was with her. And for the most part, the mom was giving her little girl attitude, and when she'd turn the stroller, she'd turn it roughly, and I'm thinking "whoa, a little rough there." Later in the dairy section, she was giving her little girl a even more attitude, saying stuff like "Today is not the day", "Why are you here?" things like that, and I'm thinking "whoa, take it easy." I was actually a little outraged, and I wanted to go over there and ask her nicely to relax, but I was a little afraid she'd make a scene. So I told my manager, but he said he couldn't do anything. Poor kids . I just couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing.

Believe it or not, but I actually thought of Amanda at times and while I was reading your post Conn8d. I was actually thinking "Why can't you be a better mom like Amanda?" Because I could imagine Amanda's reaction if she saw what you saw, and what I saw. I mean, remember what Amanda said in her last audio interview with GW? About how she thinks Olivia is the best kid on the planet , and what she said at AT3 about what she'd do if anyone would try to hurt Olivia:

    Q&A from AT3
Q: what did change in your life because of motherhood
A: Everything (with a big sigh)
A: (paraphrasing) She said that since having Olivia, she would be able to kill if someone would hurt her. Not thinking of circumstances that made that person do it, no, just kill.

Amanda would probably be shocked and outraged if she saw that . What do you guys think? I mean, look at this pic of Amanda and Olivia together-

By looking at the pic, you can tell they have a strong and close bond, plus Amanda talks about her all the time . But the relationship that mother had with her daughter at my store was the complete opposite of that^.

So as I just made clear, you wouldn't want to mess with Amanda or Olivia, because Amanda will mess you up will bad. I mean take a look at "Action Mom"-

    (Protecting Olivia)

Stay away from her you b****!

: Hell have no fury like a mothers punch!
    Both: Agreed!

Well we probably won't hear anything else about him specificly from CPS, but they told me he will first be placed in child haven until they can determine his identity, and then he'll hopefully get placed in foster care while the situation is investigated. They may find a grandparent or other relative who is willing to care for him, or he will get placed for adoption.

Poor little guy, I hope he'll be a good parent. At least Amanda knows good parenting

Well, I'm off to bed. Thank you for your cooperation. Good night Samandan's...

Heh...I work in child protection at the moment and I work for a charity that works with young people as well...I get that kinda of thing all the live long day. A lot of the time I am glad I'm on the end of the phone otherwise violence would be too tempting.

Wait, we aren't always "good" on this thread?

Yes, I wish the best for the show and for everyone who watches, travels, and is involved.

Cute, yes. BB's eyes have always killed me... from Farscape on...

Still, does pure cuteness make Mitchell the appropriate SG1 leader? NO.

Does the handsome/ cuteness factor rightfully make Mitchell the "Movie star"? NO. Hello. All of SG1 is cute. All of SG1 is far more capable than Mitchell.

PTB: Please give the SG1 actors their due. The original cast created a non-reproducible chemistry for many years. Newbies cannot take credit for the work of the initial actors.

The way I see it, there's no one true soulmate for anyone, so given the right circumstances (in various AUs), I could see her ending up with any of those. And in our reality, I like her flirty relationship with Jack (though I can't see them ending together).
Yes, Mitchell acts younger chronologically, so his career should reflect that. Mitchell should have a lesser command than Sam (IMO).

Hmmm. No true soulmates? I don't know yet. I think I might agree with you. However, soulmate or not, Sam and Jack were an item in my view of the SG universe.

Horrible. Hope it never happens here. I live in a happy place. I actually assume AT does not read this thread or any other based on her interview comments. I would hate for her to read negative things, and I do not think she has the time to sort it all out.

Whether she ever reads this thread or not is not super important. We all still wish and pray for her absolute best and I believe that counts for a lot.

As for Sam/Thor, it is a special bond beyond the physical that only some of us who have a particularly wacky sense of humor enjoy. Star crossed love, you know. I think Thor has really fallen for Sam but the Asgard High Council disapproves.

Feeling pretty crappy. The surgery took 1,5 hour instead of the planned 30 minutes, because there were some complications. That gave me quite a scare when I woke up and found out the time. What they found wasn't too good. It probably means we won't be able to have children the natural way, and that makes me very sad. It was not totally unexpected, cause that was the reason we're doing the whole hospital thing anyway. I really don't want to start a discussion about having children etc., to me and my husband, this news is very upsetting. We will have to think about what to do next (like IVF or adoption) and that's, well, not how you imagine things when you first start trying for a family. Luckily, we have a very nice doctor and another appointment to talk things through in september.
For now I'm in pain and am taking it easy. Chatting with Meg, reading some fanfic on the couch and catching up here.

this fandom is pretty much on its second generation of fic writers. many of the folks that started the fandom a decade ago have moved onto other things. Not all of course, but a lot.

There's new fic writers now. Some are really good, other are just good, others are good to those with tastes different from mine.

some that have recently joined hte fandom, they see the old eps 'unpure'...and by that i mean, they see them after the fact, after things have been debated and argued and explained, while many of us watched the story unfold unspoiled. We watched the tapestry be weaves in 'real time'...and there were no dvd box sets to play catch up with.

There was no Joe's blog to give us spoilers, we watched each eps with only what the TV guide said to spoil it. We didn't know behind the scenes stuff or who was gonna guest when or any of this.

A lot of us spent years watching the characters and friendships develop and we didn't have anyone telling us 'this is when it changed' or 'this plot started here'.

so some of us have a different perspective because we watched history in action, instead of joining and having the luxury of catching a whole season in a weekend.

For some, we were able to interpret things as they happened, instead of posting a 'wow, did you notice....' and having 10 people fill us in on things.

Neither group is better than another, and i'm not implying that. I do think there's a general difference between them simply because there are differing perspectives.
I agree Sky although I haven't been involved in fandom or SG as long as you (and some others) my brother only started watching after the series ended where as I found SG1 in its 5th season and he has a completely different view of the show than I do.

(and sam's got her own reasons for wanting more free time)

now i know not everyone would be happy with this idea (and it's just come to me), but at least it could give sam some respect and mitchell time to grow on the fans.

I'd agree with that Sally it might have been easier to except that storyline, as long as they didn't make Sam look weak that is.

It's a shame, because Carter-as-host could have been another gold mine (one they only did a passable job with for about 3 seasons before shunting it aside) that didn't have to take over entire episodes to still be interesting and have impact. But then I think that's partially a problem with the kind of show Stargate was - every episode essentially stood on its own, action and not character focused.

As for the Vala vs Carter thing. I can't understand that at all. Seems to me someone who's a fan of strong women should like them both. I love them both but for very different reasons. At first I liked Vala simply because it was Claudia Black, who won my heart quite handily in Farscape. But then she grew on me for other reasons.

And finally, the Mitchell discussion. You know, I wanted to like him, I really did, because again I think Ben Browder's awesome (Farscape again) - though not well utilized in Stargate in terms of his acting ability but that's another discussion. But I never arrived at anything except tolerance for him. I just couldn't get over him, as green as a Lieutenant when it came to Gate travel, being put in a position over three eight year Stargate-traveling vetrans to make decisions that, had it been reality (or a show more gutsy than Stargate) would have gotten characters killed within a half dozen episodes. And yeah, no one actually had to listen to him, but he didn't have to listen to Carter either and that's dangerous for someone who has no idea what he's doing, it puts everyone else in danger. He should have been a subordinate, regardless of whether he was on SG-1 or SG-21.
I agree on all parts of your post (although it took me a while to warm to Vala ) I especially agree with the last part of your post.

They may find a grandparent or other relative who is willing to care for him, or he will get placed for adoption.
So, I'm curious. What would any of you do if you saw a child being punished in some way in a mall by their parent and it seemed over the top for whatever the child was doing. Call security? Speak to the mother? Do nothing?

I thought I was going to dislike the Vala character, but after about two episodes I found myself liking her and laughing at her antics, and even sympathizing with her sometimes, and then found myself wishing the writers would do more Sam/Vala centric stories (which they obviously failed to do), but I think she stole the show in "Continuum". If they could write that well for her in the movie, they should have been able to do the same with her in SG1.
