Zowee ... do I hear AD and Carterslave and 1speed4Sam singing a patriotic George M. Cohan medley?!
You've got me pegged, don't you ChopinGal? Yup, Old Glory never looked better than when wrapped 'round Amanda Tapping.
{*Thud!*}
Now that I've been revived with a bucket of cold water, a few thoughts of this business of Carter being "far, far away" at the start of S9. Firstly, Nevada isn't that far from Colorado and, secondly, I'm sure Cassie could get into a much better school than UNLV.
(But seriously ... I'd like to see a return of the 'Aunt Sam' from Singularity, Learning Curve and Rite of Passage, not the one who gave Cassie the back of the hand in that infamous Heroes utterance. ("Cassie's a tough kid. She'll survive." Not if the writers keep skeeving her like that.)

If I had to try to rationalize the whole Samanda experience, I guess I'd have to name the naturalness of AT - she seems to be the real thing. And she's the complete package: brains, beauty, wit ... what's not to love? But the underlying factor may be a sense of goodness ... Amanda just bursts forth and shines ... everything about her is alive.
Thank you, CG. I'd say you took the words out of my mouth—except that I never thought or said anything remotely as sensitive & perceptive as you did. Somebody ought to lay some blue jello on you, sister.
Read an article on Terly Rothery from Starlog #310 May 2003 tonight.
Here are a couple of interesting quotes from the article
Originally, producers Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner – who knew Rothery from their collaboration on The Outer Limits revival – looked at her for the part of the soldier scientist Carter, but in the end, “It wasn’t right,” Rothery admits. “I’m so not the Carter character. The casting was absolutely bang-on with Amanda instead.”
Over the years, Fraiser and Carter have grown to be good friends, and their relationship has become so important that when Carter was promoted to major, the producers realized that they would have to do the same for Fraiser. “If she’s a major and I’m a captain. I can’t address her by her first name.” Rothery explains, “I would have to address her as ‘Major.’ We want to show the camaraderie and connection between these two women, so [the promotion] was done off-camera. I became a major at the same time in order to maintain that familiarity, so they can still talk back and forth as friends.”
I'm so glad they cast TR as Janet as imho she was a pint sized larger than life with a great big heart brilliant character and with Amanda they were a knock out on any scenes they did together!
I still really think tptb did a real "boo-boo"
with writing Janet out
Oh please be sure that when you email me, you tell me not only who you are...but WHO YOU ARE...meaning, screen name and real name. If you just give me your real name but I don't know you, I won't know who you are...
...You're ALWAYS Welcome in Samanda: Amanda's Community of New Fans and Old Friends...

Thanks for the great insight! Just goes to show, you learn something new everyday!!
"Yes, you outrank me Jack, but that's the last blue jello and if you don't hand it over I'm going to kick your ass." ... and if that doesn't do the trick ...
"Might I remind you, sir, that I'm a dead shot—and I have PMS."
I'd vote to just leave the thread as is... enthusiastic new Sam-fans seem to be finding us and joining in. I think that Sam-fans like seeing such a Sam-friendly thread with such great depth.
I'll second Astro's comments to leave things as they are.
Found another picture of AT being silly. I have to agree with other posts that I would really love to see her doing a comedy act, I really think she would be great.
one good thing, ib f brad wrote beachhead, it'll be good. brad has a good handle on the characters adn knows how to write sam (as opposed to some other guys who tend to write her how they'd like her to be rather than who and how she is)
IMHO, if brad had written chimera it wouldn't have been the soap opera drivel that it turned out to be and sam wouldn't have been this pathetic little doormat who let pete walk all over her
pro
it'll be archived. which means, since it's not being altered every few seconds iwth a post, if the server ever dies again, it stands a better chance of surviving intact (when it crashed a couple of months ago, we lost a few posts and the rda thunk thread lost a ton since they were posted after a backup was made)
It won't ever go away. it'll just sink down in the pages and can be found by searching for it
cons
yes, the numbers will start over. thread one will end with post 8000 or whatever, the new thread will start over wtih one. However, let's say thread 2 hits 8,000, i can merge it with the old one and the old one will now have 16,000 posts, so it's more of a temporary starting over
maybe we need to put up a poll? let folks vote?
i'm game for either option, and no we don't have to do it
some have worried that the sheer size might scare off the newbies, others like the idea that folks can read all our history
totally up to you guys, i'm just the person with the power to make it happen
