Happy and Safe Travels, Strix. Hope you enjoy your journey to this side of the Kingdom.
Pity you're not going to Greece, though - it's been a while since I've been able to dust off the old "Beware of Geeks bearing GIFs" joke...

Ooh ... what a pun! Timeo Graecos ut dona ferentis ... Holy Hannah ... you're a man after my own heart! Unfortunately, it's been so long ago, that I cannot remember the correct form for "Greeks" so this will have to do ...
Now you've got me obsessing ... was it "donaeos", givers?
Well Uber and I sat and chatted about my Sam banner and decided it was the photo we didn't like, so after a brief discussion Uber came up with this little number that I think is much better.
Pretty darn good job seeing as she completely remade my banner on her own.
Thanks Uber!
Kat
Great job, you two! Now ... psst ... who wants to go undercover and "plant this" banner on one of the pesky, nasty threads?!
Hey all, take care! I'm off on my trip to Israel, Ireland, and London. Tickets? Check. Passport? Check. Camera? Check. Computer? Check. Stargate DVDs? Check. Okay, I'm all set!
I don't think that fourteen days away will be long enough to get over my Samanda addiction, so you can imagine my daily suffering. If you have it in your hearts, however, you might send good thoughts to Israel for continued peace. I'd really like this to be a nice, boring trip.
Hugs,
Strix
Strix, who will guard the Queen while you're globe trotting?!
And, even more importantly, who will be guarding your six?! Be careful, my friend, our thoughts and good wishes go with you!
Absolutely, of course ... the Royal Head, himself, will step in and shadow the Queen closely ... hehehe ... it's a tough job, but someone must do it!
The things I do for this Kingdom...
Came across a livejournal the other day, called samcarter100 where they post drabble fic challenges. Got one stuck in my head, so I decided to write it down...

Boy, for a big, tough Head of Security ... you're really a puppy dog at heart! Just left you an anon review ... loved it! Hope you write more!
Psst ... I know you are not a J/S shipper, but, my story is getting good ... there's much more to it than Jack and Sam. Would love to have you read it ... blatant advertisement for Head Trip: www.fanfiction.net/~chopingal
i was more thinking sam came into the show as an alcoholic. and maybe in 'in the line of duty', perhaps, is when this weakness was shown to the viewers.
what skydiver was saying about sam being too much of a control freak rings true, but that's why i picked her succumbing to this weakness as a teenager. too much stress moving from one state to another, wanting to fit in. too much stress losing her mother. too much stress dealing with her father and brother not talking or liking each other. i could see it just being a way of fitting in/having other kids liking her, then her using it as an escape. but then she grows up, and when she starts using it for recreation and winding down, it slowly becomes a crutch.
i guess i find it interesting that sam seems pretty much in control most of the time, but this could be her 'one' weakness that could end up destroying her career and possibly taking her life.
i should write this! (not really, someone else should )
sally
I can see your point, Sal, but I'd have to agree with Astro and Sky on this one. Wow ... having Carter cope with a serious addiction like this would just be the final nail in the coffin for Sam bashers, especially after the past two seasons. And, yet, there are many "closet alcoholics" and, if written well, it would be a powerful emotional arc.
However, Sam's been so bounced around by her other emotional/romantic arcs (Pete/Jack, Jacob dying) that I'm really glad the girl has her motorcycle and fighter planes to let off steam and deal with her stress! Don't forget target practice too!
UNDERCOVER SKILLS: check.
OWN TRENCHCOAT: check.
SENSE OF MISCHIEF: check.
TECHNICAL SKILLS: sadly lacking.
Oh well, maybe next time...
But can I just say - you've got an impressive set of linguistics, ChopinGal.

That's the best pickup line I've heard in ages! Most men are not even looking at my linguistics ...
Now, as to the stealth mission ... sadly, I'm still just learning the techie skills myself ... so we'll have to pass the assignment on to those more competent ... like Uber and Kat!

to go with what sally says, i could see sam doing something in season 2 or 3. such as alcohol to deal with jolinar, or a friend of mine once suggesed amphedamines to deal with jack being gone and getting him back in 100 days
sam does have a weakness, she tends to get tunnel vision, especially when she's trying to solve a problem. like in matter of time, in the beginning, all she could see was 'cool, a chance to study a black hole' instead of 'well, yeah, sg-10 is dying too'
on 100 days, she focused on getting jack back (for whatever reasons you want to ascribe) and while fanon has established that seh 'worked herself to the bone', canon wishe she just put in a ton of hours and probably worked 16 hour days for a couple of months - which is a far cry from her working herself to skin and bone and being on the verge of collapse like some fic write her
i could see an addiction dealing method, but it'd have to be early in the series. I do think that, post desperate measures, sam wouldn't ever want to be vulnerable on earth again, and getting drunk would be a vulnerability

Good post and makes some reasonable points ... Sam was very vulnerable around those early season arcs and episodes ... she dug in and used coffee as her stimulant and just used her workaholism as her coping tool. But she could have easily turned to something more powerful at the time.
And, yes, after being drugged for days in Desperate Measures and lying there helpless, it makes sense that she would never want to let herself become so out-of-control again.
Although, the seduction of the addiction is your mind telling you that you are perfectly in control and you use a false rationalization to excuse the destructive behavior. Sam could almost outsmart herself into thinking that her excessive drinking was not a problem. I'm sure there are lots of fanfics out there doing this kind of script. I, myself, am not into that kind of arc.
Sam: This, this ... hussy ... was fooling around with you on the Prometheus while I was risking life and limb on a dangerous mission?!
Daniel: Sam, it's not what you think ... Vala has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and she was just helping me rewire the panels that blew out when you had your concussion. You should have seen the sparks flying ... until we got the broken wires fixed.

LOL
if i had web space to link a banner from
actually, folks can do what they want, just be nice about it please.
there are plenty of sigs on this board that i personally don't like, yet since they are within the forum rules, they're just an expression.
i guess i'm just trying to say, post what you want where you want, just please be aware that some folks don't quite have the same sense of humor and tolerance that we have here
