Well said. I only wish the Winged Monkeys had known that they didn't HAVE to stir the pot to get us to watch. We'd have been watching anyway...

For me, the palpable upheaval on the forum is a total eye-opener. I never regularly watched a TV show aside from older comedies, cooking, and animal shows. I never knew fandoms existed until recently, so this is all totally new to me. (I will have to admit getting attached to Shakespeare, the meerkat on meerkat manor, and when he disappeared, I was sad, but this is a whole new level of upset.)

From a newbie perspective, the force and volume of emotion on the forum the last couple of days has overwhelmed me. I can't imagine how it has been for Sky and the other mods. So many people are upset, I am upset (which seems crazy since the forum is virtual and TV is not real). However, if I saw an equal number of people in real life this sad/ angry/ etc, I would want to help, make them feel better, somehow, but I don't know how. My visceral reaction probably sounds silly to veteran forum goers, since I presume stuff like this happens all the time in TV, it's just a first for me.

I am sure the press release is a calculated move. I am glad the fans care - at least there is interest and emotion still attached to the franchise. Negative attention is better than no attention at all? (My pets and my daughter firmly believe this.)

I am trying to get to know SGA out of loyalty to Sam and the franchise. From what I have seen thus far, I would prefer we lose no-one. I cannot make any intelligent comments on character development, character interactions, or story arcs, since I have not yet seen enough of SGA, but I believe stories make a show. If those stories and ideas become new and fresh again, the show will become fresh again. I do not think playing character musical chairs helps IMHO.

I like stable characters placed in new settings and new situations, which is why I will like Sam in SGA - she will have a whole new set of personalities and circumstances to play off of.

On the other hand, I do not enjoy character flux and story stasis.

I get used to characters and tend to watch a show consistently to see what makes the character tick.

I would prefer not to lose anyone at any time, ever. Not practical, but nonetheless, my newbie preference.

ROFL, Winged Monkeys! That is a good Wizard of Oz role for the PTB!

I wish we could have seen those in 200!

Seriously, I doubt any of us will skip an Amanda episode of SGA! Honestly, I think adding Amanda is the best move TPTB could make at the moment. She is so talented, and Sam is such a well rounded character. She is just what this struggling (and remember I love the show) series needsat the moment.

I am going to continue avoiding the SGA threads for awhile, so that Sky doesn't have to go mod on me. I don't like negative press for Amanda, but I do understand their feelings. If this were SG-1, and Amanda were becoming a recurring character then we'd be upset and looking for someone to blame, too. Unfortunately, at the moment, Amanda is their easy target.

I think Fans want to know their favorite characters are going to be around. For the most part. It's one thing if an Actor leaves on their own but it's a whole other deal when TPTB make wholesale changes. It's not easy when you have soo many cast changes and new directions like Atlantis has undergone in a short amount of time.It seems like it's a panic move by TPTB and then the Fans start to feel the panic.

Yup...she is an easy target; thus is the downside of being so out in the open too I imagine.

My reaction is mixed on many levels. While I am a bigtime fan of Atlantis, I only started warming to Torri's version of Weir near the end of Season 1. I even wrote a post way back when that I thought she was a bit wooden in her portrayal early on...but I did start to like her...but I don't think they knew what to do with her and what little development we got was rarely anything as insightful as Before I Sleep was as far as showing what makes her tick.

Then there's the notion of Sam and what she could do in Atlantis. It's funny but ages ago, I wrote a post saying how cool I thought it'd be if when SG-1 ended, Sam led the Atlantis expedition. I even waxed nostalgic enough to look it up:

                        http://forum.gateworld.net/showpost....postcount=3045

I have to admit that the idea still appeals to me if this is indeed where TPTB are going, simply because I think it would be a cool direction for not only the character, Samantha Carter to go...but for the SHOW to go. For the expedition. Having her there opens neat opportunities for both of them.

Then there's the fact that Sam will continue on, and not just like Teal'c and the others, as in, in movies only. We will continue to see her character's journey on more of a week-to-week basis for another year at least...and if it works for her there, maybe longer.

I know that there are those who are having kittens and I don't blame them at all. I remember giving birth to a few litters a year or so ago myself when I realized that Sam was essentially being shoved aside on her own team to make room for the new hero. So I certainly don't begrudge any fan from having reactions that differ from mine. I also know that I'm not going to let it keep me from being happy about what I think could possibly be a good thing for Amanda, Carter and Atlantis nor prevent me from expressing my jubilation at the new possibilities and adventures that await.

I said a few days ago that I'll adopt Amanda's take. I'm not going to worry about what I can't control. Some people will be happy and some will not. Some people will take this out on Amanda...and that sucks...but we can't tie ourselves into knots over it.

There's nothing any of us can do about it except what we do best...what we ALWAYS do...and that is to support our gal and be respectful of other people's feelings.

...You're ALWAYS Welcome in Samanda: Amanda's Community of New Fans and Old Friends...

first, it's enough that a good chunk of the atlantis fans and the torri/weir fans are having kittens, i do no need an implosion in here too. It's a holiday and the liquor stores are closed and it's too frakking cold to go out and get me more booze.

Now there are enough kittens around here, we do not need more.
Ah but Sky. I like kittens. They're so cute and fuzzy and warm.

Seriously, I get what you're saying. I do feel for the Weir/Torri fans. It's not fun when you feel that you're fave is being pushed aside for someone else to move in.

Sciffy knows that interest is likely to fade during their bonehead greedy assed 6 month hiatus, so they're (in collusion wiht mgm) are stirring fans up. Which is likely precisely why these interviews were released and released in such a cold way.
All that thread they had to buy to keep us all dangling must have been expensive. Must be why they're having problems affording the shows huh?

Do we know yet if Torri requested the reduction? Maybe she has plans for something else. I can't help but remember all the hoopla on NCIS two years ago when we found out that
                              Spoiler:
                              Kate would be killed off.
Fans rioted, wrote nasty letters, etc. How dare they do that? Turns out the actress requested to be let out of her contract. So, Bellisario wrote an out that while shocking, made for some really great storytelling. This may not be what happened with Torri, I'm just saying.

which is precisely why i'd love it if fans would take the boiling oil off the fire and wait. Like you said, perhaps the actor wanted time off.

just as it's equally likely that the 'replacement' actors dont' necessarily like the role they've been placed into but have to do thier jobs
