Sam was named Guinevere, which is interesting. In later versions of the legend, Guinevere ends up being abducted by the son of Morgan. If it does play out based on legend, this is an interesting thought.

Daniel was named Gallahad, typically known as the purest of knights. This rings true with the story and that it is Daniel who is worthy, the fact that he was the one worthy of ascension and the purest soul, according to Merlin and the ancients.

Cameron was the only other team member to be named. And, IMO, this name was GOLD. His name was Percival. Why is that gold? Because Percival is famous. Oh, yes. "Percival the Fool".
    Forgot a REALLY important one....

    Spoiler:

He called Ba'al Mordred. Mordred, according to legend, was the illegitimate (I can't use the b word version on GW, though it suits Ba'al better) son of Morgan Le Fay.

It is Mordred that, according to later Arthurian legend, abducts Guinevere. Is this something to still play out, or is it a reference back to the episode where Ba'al took Sam hostage? Certainly an interesting one

I don't think these names were chosen at random. Not at all.
    Yepp, it's blank down here.

Wow. Thanks for the info. This could be really interesting. TPTB have an opportunity for some amazing story telling. I hope they don't let it slip by.

I hope not either. It's these things, the little details and quirks that made Stargate what it was. There is no way with the others that it was accidental, so I'm hoping that it goes the same way here. There is such amazing potential and, though I may be setting my hopes too high, I just can't see this amount of careful detail going to waste. There's more to it than someone going off their rocker.

well, SG-1 has made plenty of mistakes when working off of history to use for the show, so I wouldn't hope for too much.

            example (taken off wiki)
Although Daniel Jackson describes Sokar as "the original Satan", in reality the mythological Sokar was a minor funeral god who wasn't particularly evil. Apophis/Apep, the ultimate evil in Egyptian mythology and the one who seeks the destruction of the world, is much closer to the character of Satan. The character Sokar was described as "the original Satan" because of his connection to Christianity, as there is no Satan in Egyptian mythology.

              Spoilers for The Quest 2
              Spoiler:
He called Baal Mordred who was considered to be the son of Arthur and Morgan le Fay and has always been considered the enemy of Arthur. Of course, this is all assumed to be legend and Arthur etc never really existed.

This is from one of the many websites telling about the Arthurian legend. "The Sangreal is another name for the Holy Grail, a legendary sacred vessel associated with divine revelation, whose origins go back to the Last Supper. In Arthurian legend, the Grail quest represented a heroic and mystic adventure attempted by the Knights of the Round Table and was achieved by Sir Bors, Sir Percival, and Sir Galahad."

I love the legends, all of them, the Stargate plots use.

That's one story of "The Fool". There's another that I heard as a little girl. That Percival was given the chance to ask questions and find out about the Sangreal, but he wasted his opportunity and earned himself the title of "The Fool"

As in the medieval stories, Parsifal is presented initially as a fool, but is pure enough to heal the wounded Anfortas and to become himself the keeper of the Grail.
Parsifal, by the way, is another variation on Percival, just as Morgan and Morgana are the same person.

can anyone see what Sam chucked in the chest?

Thanks, this is fascinating stuff. "What's in a name" eh?! I hope that the intent for
                        Spoiler:
Ba'al and Sam to play out the taking hostage is yet to come, even though there was a previous interlude in the old episode. Now that she socks him in Quest Pt2, he may be looking to seek revenge again. And if he finds a way to escape from the group, he may grab Sam and drag her with him ... just a thought. I like the way AT and CS play off each other - good chemistry - I wouldn't mind seeing that develop more.
And Cam as "fool" is spot on. Once they had him drop his pants and run into the wall a couple times early in S9, I felt that it just set him up as a buffoon. It didn't help the character's arc at all IMHO. However, with an Arthurian twist, he can be redeemed as the "pure fool" as Percival from what you write. If he did "heal" someone in legend, than that could project to the S10 episode where Sam is critically wounded and he's her only companion. He could become a healing presence.

Years ago I started to go to some of those type forums and was run out on a rail and modded up the proverbial whazoo because I dared to support Carter - even though, as many here know, I also criticize Carter (and TPTKSG-1) when I believe the character is being wasted or dumbed-down (think chimera - blechh still hate even typing that name) or written so out-of-character it's laughable (think affinity - another blechh that I still hate even writing the name). God forbid I criticize the God that is Daniel (with thought-out, detailed, constructive analysis included in my opinions as to why), - goodness the vitriol thrown my way was immeasureable so I left and good riddance to them and the way they are. Sorry to be OT but I wanted you to know you are not alone and they are just best ignored.
It is actually entertaining for me to go there once in awhile now to see what they are up to - gives me a good laugh for sure.

Yes, I went a couple times when I first started coming here and never bothered to go back because it was quite obvious that there was no room for a Sam Carter in their universe. The sum of their parts never do add up to the whole. So best to stay here in Samanda where the main female lead always gets honored.

Not so little. She's really quite tall. I notice it more when she's not with the SG guys b/c I think they're all over 6 feet. She seems taller in other roles.
Who was it here who said she seemed taller in person when you lucky people got to meet AT?

she's 5'9", so yeah, she's tall for a woman. Lucky girl.

if i was 5'9" i'd be positively skinny

i think that's one good thing about who they cast. since AT was on par with the boys heighth wise, she wasn't the 'tiny little female' kinda like janet was (although teryl is short, 5'1" or so i think)

Sam stood more as an equal amongst them since she wasn't a lot shorter than them (i think the tallest of the boys is 6'3" or so)
