I too am looking forward to it if handled well.

She has chemistry with McKay but I hope they don't just focus on this one relationship. I hope that we see her getting into it with Weir, Sheppard, Caldwell and so on.

And I want her to be used well. I don't want her presence or actions to supplant someone else's there and I don't want her to be there to make a mistake that one of the others has to fix to make them look better. Been down that road, thank you.

She's a great character when given more than technoverbiage. Thankfully, we're seeing more this year than last on SG-1 but still...she's capable of so much more than splicing alien technology and going on a technorant.

She is after all a battle seasoned officer, a great team player and someone known for coming up with a solution to save everyone's butts. So much can be done with such a versatile character...the writers just have to WANT to.

Well the news of Carter appearing in Atlantis S4 sure has segments of fandom all a buzz. Personally I think it has been a plan of TPTB to have Carter appear in Atlantis ever since SGA started. If you look at the fact that she has been in at least one episode every season since SGA started plus look at how many times they have talked about Carter in Atlantis episodes this season most recently in Return Part II.

Why do they want her in Atlantis? Is it the character of Carter they want or Amanda the actor they like having around? I think it is a little of both. For Amanda personally this could be a good thing if she is just in a few episodes. It gives her work in Vancouver with crew members she knows. Does not have her working full time so she can have more time to spend with family or working on other projects.

As a HUGE Atlantis fan and a HUGE Sam fan, this news has made me very happy. But as always with news like this I've seen how fandom is stressing out.

Frankly for me I love the Carter/McKay interaction. So it would be nice to see more of that..but I hope that she is allowed to interact with some of the other characters as well. I'd love to see her working with Weir or Shephard, or hell, even Zelenka!

I dunno, I just can't see this as anything other than a good thing. I think it's a huge vote of confidence by the producers in AT too. I mean, they could just have easily have brought DJ across, but obviously MS isn't interested. And you can sort of sense that, in that Carter is mentioned again and again in Atlantis, even in episodes where she doesn't appear. She's been kept alive in that franchise since the very start, and one wonders, like tsax says, if they've been planning this for a while. Because they know that AT is a classy lady, and a great actress who would fit in well with whatever part they write for her.

Yes! I am *very* excited about the possible interactions that can come from Sam going to Atlantis. I consider her having scenes with McKay (who I adore) as a given at this point. But I'd really love to see her interact more with Weir specifically. That would be fantastic! Or maybe have her bond with Teyla doing hand combat practice. Hmmm... do I remember reading about a fiacathon going on about Sam and the women from Atlantis? *g* I'd just love to see using Sam in other interactions aside from McKay and Sheppard.

OH, I love the idea of AT and Hugh Jackman working together! That would be excellent! He is talented enough to keep up with her and they could do a great action adventure, maybe something like an updated Romancing the Stone (not remake, just similar).

Fans are always going to spawn controversy and always going to revel in it. That's the nature of fandom, especially in this sort of venue, it breeds and feeds upon itself. But then you meet Amanda, she shares with you her conflict over trying to make this all work out --- professionally and personally --- while not alienating fans to the story, and suddenly you're torn between your desire to stand behind the real person (Amanda) as you would anyone you'd met face-to-face who shared their personal hopes of making something work, and your objectivity in evaluating the commodity as a whole, which is what drew you in to begin with. The question remains: Does the product continue to "work" with Amanda Tapping attached to it? I (personally) think the answer to that is a resounding hell yes. But then, I am somewhat biased in that I adore Amanda Tapping and I adore the Sam Carter character. I think she can arguably work in any Stargate incarnation. Will the writing be there to support the transition? That remains to be seen. There's precedent which suggests it will not, unfortunately. However there is a lot of shaking-up going on in the realm of SG-A this upcoming season so a lot of factors are up in the air right now, beyond even AT's participation. SG-A will be holding the fort on its own. Can it handle that? Will it tank? Did it need SG-1 to stay afloat? Arguably no. Arguably yes. Look at BSG's current ratings dive --- and that series has nothing whatsoever to do with the Stargate franchise.

I think from the standpoint of an SG-1 fan or an SG-A fan who's objectively looking to the final product, a great deal remains to be proven. However from the standpoint of a fan or supporter of Amanda Tapping, the fact that many of us will be following her endeavor into this new ocean goes without saying. I know she's going to try her best to do whatever she (personally) can to make it work out without stepping on the artistic toes of anyone else who was already involved and I respect that. Non fans of Amanda or neutral parties may not be so forgiving, but then again neither will they know how much she does care that this isn't seen as some sort of staged publicity ploy or hostile takeover by an SG-1 leading cast member. Nothing could be further from the truth, and having heard her speak about it briefly during AT2, I can only imagine she's extremely vested in supporting the long-time cast members of SG-A, and joining the ensemble, not monopolizing it in any way shape or form.

3. over-the-top "fun" sex references defining the relationship between Sam and Rodney

4. most of all...
I don't want to see AT stuck in a contract that prevents her from taking other solid roles while TPTB can't manage to figure out how to use her character because all they're thinking about is stunt casting.

I like Sam, and I'm more likely to watch SGA more with AT in it than I do now. I just have this voice screaming in the back of my mind...

If they can't manage to write Sam well for her own show, how can I reasonably expect them to do it for the spin-off?!?

i've made a decision about sam being on atlantis next season.... after reading the 'tapping gates to atlantis for season four' thread, i've decided to NOT participate in atlantis fandom.

so when amanda/sam is in an ep of that show, i'll talk about it here, OR i'll start a new thread for ppl that are new to the show like me.

now, i doubt i'll actually watch the show when amanda's not in it (don't want another 'relationship' with the ppl making it), but i'll have to know something of what's going on to be able to understand sam's time on it. but i don't *want* to be in partnership (viewer wise) with these ptb anymore.

I knew it!! You kept the sloe gin stashed at home just for occasions like this! But I sure missed it in London ...

On a serious note, mini, kudos for expressing so well what many of us are thinking. This is an important issue for Amanda too and maybe when Sky returns from Avalon she can consider creating a new survey (poll) regarding Sam Carter moving to SA in S4. Unless this has already been done - I just haven't looked.

Meh, just ignore them. Life's to short for all that negative stuff. I know what I have time for, and it isn't *****ing and complaining. Samanda = good.

Actually I probably shouldn't have time for any of it, since my 2 hardest exams are both on monday.
