Frankly, that chemistry is what sparked the Sam/Jack 'ship' to begin with. And there's nothing wrong with recognizing it for what it is. We're all human beings here, even I've had close male friends while I've been "with" someone else, and nothing would *ever* have happened, but that didn't mean that (had there been no one else and had our lives been different and had the moon been green.... yadda yadda yadda ... ) the chemistry wasn't there for the possibility. That very chemistry is what makes actors on screen perform so well together - it's what makes the 'spark' that viewers love to see. Chemistry is, in fact, a form of attraction - it founds friendships and it founds more than that, but it is (no matter how you slice it), the intangible 'spark' that makes two people (or two actors) really have a great presence together in a dramatic setting on screen. Even (I think it was Peter D) commented in one of the DVD Commentaries that it was "too bad Amanda was married" because she and Rick were always shamelessly flirting with one another. That's life. And in their case, it's the basis for a true, abiding friendship - and I think that's a great thing.

Yep, they're the sci-fi version of Kat Hepburn and Tracy, Bogart and Bacall, Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant ... certain pairs just light up the screen with their onscreen chemistry. And, I know lots of fans disagree, but I think, like you, that AT and RDA have IT.
That's why they must must make a movie together!!!
not all that hard to explain. jack and sam are characters that they play. even amanda has said that she has a different walk for sam, a different talk. sam is a personna she adopts. And i think jack is far different from rick. jack is probably more ballsy and 'in your face' while rick seems to be a lot more easy going and fun
Touche...I'm with you there on that one Sky...but I get the impression that Rick is quite reserved and very very private...which is a good thing in his line of work.
I remember reading that Amanda said she had to learn to walk like Sam and buy gum like Sam would but how do you know how character should walk or buy gum...is it just because she's military that Sam needed a different walk or was she simply seperating herself from the character as much as possible?? I wonder if after 10 years of playing the same character if Amanda has adopted Sam's walk or vice versa??

Sam's voice is deeper, I think. RepliCarter's is higher than Sam's, but colder and more even.
I've heard people say that about Sam's voice being deeper and all but to be honest I haven't noticed a difference in Amanda's voice when I've listened to the commentarys or watch the behind the scenes stuff etc...
I think that everyones voiuce sounds different when recorded but also that when you are in different moods or mind frames your voice tends to either go lower or higher depending on the situation.
I know that when I'm being serious and trying to get something important across to someone my voice tends to deepen but when I'm out and having fun it goes higher...and louder...and faster!!!

Thanks to people like suse (), Samantha Carter came in 4th, behind "SG-1 team" and ahead of Vala Mal Doran.
Someone commented about the poor phrasing of the items; unfortunately, the response from one of the organiser types didn't provide much illumination, IMO.
Yeah, I didn't quite agree with how they set up the defaults on the survey. I don't think it can truly be considered accurate because on the Atlantis part of the survey I answered that I didn't watch the show and didn't bother with the rest of the survey, but when I received my confirmation from them this is what it looked like.
Your favourite Atlantis character: I dont watch Atlantis
Your favourite male Atlantis character: Carson Beckett
Your favourite female Atlantis character: Teyla Emmagan
Rate Carson Beckett: Excellent
Rate Ronon Dex: Excellent
Rate Teyla Emmagan: Excellent
Rate Aidan Ford: Excellent
Rate Rodney McKay: Excellent
Rate John Sheppard: Excellent
Rate Elizabeth Weir: Excellent
The default should have been 'No Opinion' not 'Excellent'.
While I think it does give a general idea of how fans feel about the show, I don't think it's an accurate opinion. Hopefully the next survey they make up will offer better explanation and default to no opinion.

So, I guess the expression "falling arse over tea kettle" would be lost on most Americans?
Dang! And I wanted to use that one, too.

A Cherokee elder sitting with his grandchildren told them,
"In every life there is a terrible fight – a fight between two wolves.
One is evil: he is fear, anger, envy, greed, arrogance, self-pity,
resentment, and deceit. The other is good: joy, serenity, humility,
confidence, generosity, truth, gentleness, and compassion."
A child asked, "Grandfather, which wolf will win?"
The elder looked the child in the eye. "The one you feed."

Yes. Exactly.

it's pretty obvious to me that Amanda and RDA are really good friends and have a great time together. .
I was just thinking that before I read the post. The relationship is so different, it's nearly impossible IMHO to compare them. AT and RDA are actually more relaxed and "friendly" whereas Sam and Jack are more tense and angsty. I don't get squee from them anymore than from, say, Sam and Daniel.

Interesting! Another UK-Canada difference, I do believe. Canadians (unlike many/most? US speakers) tend not to separate the parts of a phrasal verb in such a context. Mandy?
In any case, youscareme, the verb is 'put on'.
Well...we aussies also say "put the kettle on"...or we simply say..."I need a cuppa...Niki...flick the kettle on!!"...

I'm not exactly positive about this, but the problem lies with the fact that grammarians are still arguing whether a sentence should ever be ended with a preposition.
Therefore, She put on the kettle, is correct.
As is, She put the kettle on the stove.
However, where one grammarian would argue that putting a kettle on is grammatically incorrect, another would argue that it's not a preposition at all, but rather an adverbial particle.
So in determining who was actually correct it would depend on how you perceive the rules of written English.
It depends if you classify it as "put" being a verb that subcategorises as requiring a prepositional specifier, or whether you treat it as "put on" being a separable verb. In the case of "put the kettle on" or "put my dinner on", we treat it as the latter, meaning that put and on are both constituants of the same verb and, therefore, it is grammatically correct.
Of course, then there is the whole sociolinguistics vs grammatical legislation debate on whether practical use outweighs archaic rules and so on. In fact, to a large extent, the acceptance of words like "pants" (meaning trousers) and program (as opposed to programme) in British English are mainly due to the former.
