If you have awesome, mind-altering pills at your disposal, then you're obligated to share. Especially as hallucinations are apparently the only way I'm ever going to get that Vala/Sam thing in any kind of serious capacity.

      Regarding Company of Thieves

      Spoiler:
Ok I think Sam held it together as long as she could and then tried to go to a corner to get some privacy to be by herself...not her fault the boy couldn't take a hint and leave her alone. I made some caps and to me it appears that she was trying to hold it together but just had to let go a little....who could blame her. Now if they had protrayed her as losing it...then I would definately have a problem with it.

Just go pick up some non-drying sinus meds and you'll be set. Don't you like Sam and Vala?!

What I didn't say in the ep thread, but talked about above, was
          Spoiler:
that it wasn't that I was disappointed that Carter didn't weep over Pendergast. I was irked because the show depicted Carter & Pendergast as virtual strangers, whereas Pendergast & Mitchell were old chums. Yes, I understood that Mitchell served under Pendergast on the Prommie, but that should not have precluded Carter and Pendergast also having a degree of camaraderie or collegiality between them.
I completely agree with your point. My comments are mostly attempting to understand Sam's actions in this episode irrespective of what her relationships with the other characters might be, but how it could have come solely out of the situation itself.

            Re: Sam in CoT

            Spoiler:
I was chatting with a friend over on LJ. I mentioned that, at first, I was put off by Sam's crying-though I most emphatically would not characterize one tear track down her face as "weeping"-but that within seconds it ceased bothering me. I couldn't really explain why.

This was her reasoning, and I thought it was very good. So I thought I would share.

Let me put it this way. I've never - in person or in a documentary, male or female - heard a war veteran talk about watching a comrade get killed without getting emotional. She just watched a man get shot, with zero warning, and in a situation that she would have most likely felt responsible for. If she didn't have an emotional response when asked what happened, I would've been pissed. This idea that TV promotes that military personnel don't react emotionally in life and death situations, I don't believe that for a minute. I love Sam all the better for her reaction.

I agree with my friend. I love Sam all the better for it, as well.

Ha! No such thing as non-drying sinus meds that work, Sunnie.

Tried to green you in sympathy, since I've had a raging sinus headache all day too.

:nodding: I understand. I must admit, sometimes I have trouble discerning whether a person is offering a rebuttal -- which I then feel obliged to answer, or posting a non-rebutting [] opinion .

                : pondering :

OK, no more navel-gazing for me today.

WAIT: I didn't tape the ep. Would someone PLEASE indulge me and give another look & listen to

Marks' "gone for hours" line? Does it sound dubbed to you?

Yes there are. Thanks for the sympathy...I think it's because the weather here has changed...it's no longer summer.

                    Spoiler:
i think this is one of those times (which has happened more than once) where if some ppl hadn't made a comment about a certain scene, i would have never questioned it myself.

for me, i had absolutely no probs with sam's reaction. about the only thing that caught my eye was how long sam was gone, but again, that's because someone brought it up. i don't know if i would have questioned the time, though, on my own.

the only time this season that i've questioned sam's attitude/behavior was in - spoilers for 'pegasus project'
                    Spoiler:
when she, sheppard, and mitchell ganged up on mckay.

                      Spoiler:
as to her crying, there is not only the fact that his death was pointless...he died protecting her. when they first came into the hold, asking for her, he stepped forward, protecting her identity to take the attention to himself, then she had to step forward. and on the bridge anteus shot him because he was backin her and he was giving her the order not to cooperate, which, had they kept up the 'cooperate or we shoot a hostage' would have made sam innocent in a military court of law because she was obeying a direct order. had he survived and other hostages been shot, he would have borne the blame, not her

I have to agree with you DEM. I watched both airings and thought it sounded odd when he said that line. I thought it was just me, so I'm glad someone else noticed!

                              In CoT

                              Spoiler:
The part with Sam crying, it reminded me of a scene in the movie Courage Under Fire with Meg Ryan, where her character is crying (I think it was after losing some of the soldiers under her command) and one of the male sodlers complained that she was crying. I liked her explanation that it was a way of releasing stress and it didn't mean anything about her ability. (I hope I got that right ) So then I guess Sam's crying could have been the same type of thing.

I wish I could buy it that easily, but I'm afraid it really rankled me. If that scene were played by Daniel, Teal'c or Mitchell, there would have been no tears. I can accept that Sam feels things very deeply and that she's affected and human, etc., but they should have written that scene like they wrote the scene where she was in the elevator going after Cassie ... she SHOULD have come back into that room, briefed her 2IC, and saved the emotions for a time when she was alone. Even if it meant finding or conjuring up some private space where she could kick a door or slam a console or throw something, whatever - ALONE - when the entire crew isn't watching their commander. She's a trained commanding officer, and what TPTB keep doing is feeding needless amunition to folks who think Sam is too weak and too lacking in military discipline to hold her own command. She showed enough emotion to the audience during the moment that Emerson was shot. They didn't NEED that crying-in-front-of-the-crew scene, and it would have been far more powerful IMHO if they'd saved the rage-tears for a solitary moment when Sam knew she could let loose and get that stress out of her system without an audience full of subordinants looking to her for leadership.
