That look on her face in COTG, when she's standing in front of the 'Gate and looking at the event horizon with awe and wonder. Where she's thinking about her physics and - just excited to explore and experience it all.
'I'm having a good time now, sir,' or something along those lines as she walked alongside O'Neill in the Goa'uld ship - and after admitting that she'd spent time memorizing the layouts of the Goa'uld ship (info from the Tok'ra)
In the later seasons, Space Race and Grace showcase a bit of that excitement for me. In Space Race, she was zipping around in an alien ship around an alien star system...yes, there was the need for speed, but there was also that portrayal of excitement about doing new things and going new places... Foresaken showed some of her zeal and excitement at the beginning where she was smiling as they were setting up a telescope on an alien world (here they were on an alien world, and her objective wasn't battling supervillians, it was to do some astronomy). In Grace, Col. Emerson called her a 'Kid In A Candy Store' with respect to taking a little side trip to check out the nebula. For me, getting to see her in the space suit at the end of Season 9 also symbolized that 'explorer's spirit' (although I know that she was actually there to deal with inter-galactic supervillians).
Folks get excitement and joy and a 'burning zeal for life' in different places. As a scientist and an astrophysicist who was hoping to go into NASA, Carter came across as an explorer to me.
My experience with SciFi series, however, is that they get their best ratings when there is a large-scale good-vs-evil battle for galactic (or inter-galactic) domination. Large scale blow-em-up battles and special effects usually do well for ratings and viewership too (note that I said usually, there are exceptions... poor scripts can kill anything).
I've always thought it would be cool to have a show that showcased alien worlds - with some cool computer graphics, they could do amazing special effects. Now, what do I mean by 'showcasing alien worlds'? Erm, I have to admit that I'm thinking of the geology, the landscape, topography, etc. Most 'visits to alien worlds' throw in an offcolor sky if you're lucky, but the rest often just looks like.. .well, Earth. And the joke for Stargate is that their 'alien worlds' all look not-so-surprisingly like Western Canada (trees, trees, trees... oh, throw in a desert... or a muddy lake shore)... using the Canadian glaciers for Antarctica was cool, though.
OK, I know that the limiting factor is $$$ for the special effects/computer graphics. Still, I can dream.
So, I've now rambled off course... The topic was 'Happy Carter'... and my impressions of 'Happy Carter' are when 1) she was exploring or discovering something new, 2) she was working with or developing new technologies or 3) someone (usually on her team) was making her laugh.
So, in summary, I would say that she'd get pleasure and happiness and excitement from
- going through the 'Gate to explore new worlds
- playing with and/or inventing new technologies (doohickeys)
- time spent with the people she loves and admires
