Nothing about the SG-1 series would have taken place, therefore, there would be no reason for Amanda or Sam to be a part of the movie, just as there would be no reason for Michael Shanks to be a part of it because the Daniel in the movie is not the same Daniel we have come to know and love in the series.
They really are 2 different stories. The series changed quite a bit around. I happen to like the series better (or did before the infamous season 9) & have no interest in a followup to the Kurt Russell movie.
Edit: and as for Devlin disparaging SG1--sour grapes, my man, sour grapes.

Thanks. I already cringed when Tracey Jane caught me out for not reading the spoilers (incidentally, I added spoiler tags to my quote of your post because TJ originally had that new hidden).

Still, if this is the case, I wouldn't want Sam to be a part of the movie sequels.

And if there are to be new spinoffs from the TV series, then I wouldn't want Sam in them either. Would they be anything more than low rent "SG-1"? I realize that people in the creative professions appreciate a long term paying gig, but they also want to be proud of their work. Time for both the actress and the character to move on. Don't drag it out any longer.

EDIT: looks like your post is being quoted anyway! LOL

I wonder if they realize that fans may use TiVO to ff not just the commercials but the parts of the show they don't like.

Oh well doesn't apply to me anyway, we don't have TiVO in Canada

I did have a good time - for those that have never been to Comic Con the panels there often have 3 or more people on them. Many panels for tv shows and movie will show some type of trailer - open with some comments from panel members and not get around to fan questions until the end (many times this only leaves time for a few questions - I will have to check but I think there were 3 or 4 questions asked for the SG-1 part of the panel and 5 - 6 for the SGA part of the panel)

Basic run down of the two panels

Introduce Nora O'Brien - SciFi exec
              Introduce Gary Jones as moderator
Intro - Chris Judge, Joe Mallozzi, Paul Mullie
Show trailer clip (aprox 2 mins in length)
Comments/questions from Gary Jones to panel
              Intro - Cliff Simon
Couple questions for Cliff from Gary
              Intro - Robert Picardo
Couple questions from Gary for Robert
Gary asked a few ?'s of the panel
Opened the floor for fan ?'s (aprox 5 mins total time for questions and responses)

Have SG-1 Panel leave stage and bring out SGA panel
Intro - David H., Paul M., Rachel L., Torri H., Joe F., bring Joe and Paul back out, SGA SciFi rep (forgot his name)
              Comments questions from Gary
Show trailer clip (approx 2 mins in length)
More Comments from panel from ?'s by Gary
Open floor to fan questions (approx 5 mins total time for questions and response)

Hour is up and SG panel is over making room for next panel

I did go down stairs to the exihbit hall hoping that either Joe/Paul would show up and I'd have a chance to meet them and talk for a moment. The only SG people I ran into downstairs were Paul McG. & Torri H. Chris J and Rachel L were signing at a booth across from SciFi's booth but I had talked with Rachel earlier in the day. Chris had a large crowd after the panel so I did not even try to get close to him this time. Had a very nice chat with Cliff S at a booth he was signing at on Friday.

It is always interesting to see how some actors are swamped in the exhibit hall and other walk around with few people recognizing them or talking to them.

When I post my pictures I do have a few that are of the crowds in the main exhibit hall so that will give you an idea of how crowded it can get at Comic Con.

I have heard Michael Shanks talk about how the first time he went to Comic Con he, Chris and Amanda were able to walk around and be bother by to many people but that in the last few years they can not walk around with out tons of people stoping them.

I did not see him but Joe F. had his kids with him at the con in the exhibit hall and from what I have heard when his kids wanted him fans were pretty good about letting him go and not bothering him.

They wrote Sam so strong seasons 1 to 6that they had to make her a less certain candidate for the leader spot. It worked to a small extent as quite a lot of people made comments about the Sam mistakes and the Pete ship fiasco in seasons 7 and 8.
reduction of sam in those seasons? i'm not sure i know what you mean.

if you're talking about the sam leadership issue in season 8... i think the writers never made a deal of it because they really didn't want to put her in that position in the first place. they wanted rda/jack out of the going-out-on-missions place, so they moved him into the commander of the base position. but who was going to command sg1 then? that's when i think they just moved sam into that position, because they knew it was the last season and they didn't 'really' have to do anything with it. god forbid a woman actually lead a team for an entire season!!

We will have to see if the ratings get better, it is worrying as I think in the last couple of seasons the ratings tended to improve in the second half of the season (am I just imagining this) but with the new scheduling that is suggested, if they have weak ratings in the first half then a long lay off, they may lose even more fans by the time the second half of the season kicks off.
and i'm one of them. i can barely hold onto this show now... waiting that long...

                i really, REALLY think it's a mistake.

Half of me hopes it will give them chance to right their wrongs.
yes! but their ideas of wrong are prob way off from mine. get rid of mitchell and vala and reinstate the original 3 as THE leads. they were basically leading the show in seasons 7 and 8 (especially 8), so... if it ain't broke, don't tear the thing apart.

But it may be more likely to pave the way for a spin off after season 10, if sci fi wants a new spin off!!
i'll ONLY watch a spin off that includes sam carter!!

I still vote for a spin off with Sam leading SG1 getting stranded in some far flung galaxy and spending the next couple of seasons trying to get back. I think they would have to have extra characters with SG1 for a series like this. Perhaps a doctor and another soldier. So it would be a tightly focused team of 6.

                I'd vote for

Sam in command, Teal'c (indeed), Daniel or even Jonas, Lam (she has potential from the limited stuff I have seen), Vala (but must be toned down and lose the sex innuendo - keep the snark, sarcasm and unpredictabiliy) and possibly another soldier (male) - 3 males, 3 females
i'd like sam in command of a ship, but that it stays within distance of returning home whenver they want.

I know when the series first started I was disappointed that they'd changed the actors for what were the two main characters at the time, however by the end of season 1 I knew that Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks brought something to the characters of Jack and Daniel that was never in the movie characters. And personally I don't believe that the series could have lasted nine seasons with the movie cast. That's not to say they are not good actors, only that I don't think they suit a long running tv show.

I guess I just had hopes that if there was going to be a movie it would be set around the time period of the beginning of season 8. Originally I had heard that the script for the season 7 episodes "The Lost City" part 1&2 was meant for a movie, but it never came about, so they made ordinary episodes instead. If they are to make movies though I really wanted them to be with our main team of SG-1, Jack, Sam, Teal'c and Daniel, and with the actors that we've grown to know as the characters throughout eight seasons of Stargate.
i didn't care for the movie, so i don't care if there's sequels to it. i actually liked the movie right until they went through the gate for the first time... as soon as i saw just a plain old dessert... i found the rest of the movie ho-hum.

so when a new series based on that movie was announced, i didn't care about watching it. i did watch the premier, though, but only because it was on either before or after my then fave show 'poltergeist the legacy'. but by the time the premier had reached the end, i knew i'd want to see another ep. i was hooked!

what i want to know now, though, is if the sg1 movies are still in the running? i'd actually prefer three 2-hour movies than a theatrical movie. i find theatrical movies spend too much thought on WOWING everyone with special effects and such, while tv spends more time with the rest. okay, that's not always the case with tv these days (think what stargate is like now), but i saw the big difference between star trek next gen the series vrs star trek next gen the movie... which, with the latter, only though picard and data were worth highlighting.

i'm babbling. i'm actually boiling from heat and humidity (temp in room is 97.2 fahrenheit), so babbling is allowed because it keeps DEATH from befalling me.

here's my question - the GW story makes mention of the key demographic "female" having increased for the paltry 1.6 they got for the second ep.

HUH??!!!! Since when are they targeting females? If you asked me, based on the crap ori and space battels, the idiotic male lead crapola, the horrendously juvenile way they portray vala and the way they have royally screweddd Carter (and AT for that matter), I never in my dreams would have guessed that these yahoos were targeting the female demographic since so much of what they did in S9, and are doing in S10, seems to diminish and demean women-- their antics beg the question.

You know, I had that exact same question.

It seems if you don't want to lose this "Key demographic" you might want to focus on all of the characters and story types (team adventure) that had made this show one of the more popular scifi shows with women for so many years. At least I always thought this show had an unusual high women fan base for a scifi show. But hey, what do I know.
Joseph Mallozzi -"In the meantime, I'm into season 5 of OZ (where the show takes an unfortunate hairpin turn into "the not so wonderful world of fantasy")"

^^^ Kinda sounds like seasons 9 and 10 of SG-1 to me. Thor, ya got Aspirin?

AGateFan has officially Gone Fishin (with Jack, Sam, Daniel, Teal'c) and is hoping Atlantis does not take that same hairpin turn.

I don't know when they started caring about that either, but I'm assuming it was just generic "key" demographics that allow them to put some "feminine" ads in the slots like Lysol and Tampax.

the movie was ok, but you know why i wan't enthralled with it????

the only woman in it was the token victim

I don't care much for buddy movies. I want there to be a female in the movie that i can identify with. someone that's a vital part of the show adn a full participant...not just there to show off her cleavage or be rescued

so if movie #2 is a retread of movie #1...i'm not gonna waste $10 to go see it.

don't care how many cool sfx it has in it

I'll let all the buddy/slash fans enjoy it and i'll watch something else
