OK... I know that you already have most of these, Sky, but I'll list a few anyway...

Strix's 'The Knife's Edge of Madness' is excellent. Would have liked to have seen this as an episode on the series.

'Shades of Grey: The Aftermath' by MandySG1
In this fic, Sam gets to do all of the heroic suffering that is generally written for Jack. Good Sam-whumping fic. Some S/J UST, also a fun cross-over with JAG's Harm and Mac.

'The Working Hour' by afq
Sam and Teal'c - very well done. Good whump, good characterizations, good story.

A Pond With No Fish by Rachel500
AU fic set after Moebius. Carter stays in position as CO of SG-1, Mitchell comes on board as a likeable, believablenew character who wants to be a part of SG-1, good feeling of 'The Team'.

And, then of course, there is always 'The Hidden One' by Gracie... oft recommended because it's an excellent story!

And... then there's 'The Road From Nadir' by Rebecca Preen, which I've reread several times....

One of my favorites continues to be "Crisis" by JoJo http://www.randomleaves.com/stargate...allcrisis.html

It's set circa Season 5, and while it does have S/J ship, it also has Sam dealing--or not dealing--with the emotional fallout of her experiences on SG-1. It also has some nice action/adventure, some goa'ulds, a little Maybourne, and Sam-saves-the-day.

Well, I just rewatched Morpheus with my kids. They were away last night, so it was their first run. This is the first SG1 episode that my eight year old son has watched begining to end since Ripple Effect (and that was the only one he enjoyed in s9). My daughter (his twin) enjoyed it also. She loved the Sam scenes. I liked it even a little better the second time around, so I think I'm going to break down and rewatch some s9 episodes. Maybe they'll be better the second time, who knows. I didn't really like s6 that much until I watched it again on Scifi Mondays. Granted, I didn't hate it the first time through.

To stay on topic, AT is really working the script. She knows how to make the most out of every scene. IMHO, she does a better job of that than any of her costars.

My best friend from elementary school and I made a pact our first year of college to strive to be women rather than ladies. In explanation, our definition of a lady is someone who is dependent on a man vs. a woman who is dependant upon herself. Ladies do what is expected of them and are often damsels in distress. Women do what is necessary and can save the day on their own. You get the picture. We're both mothers of little girls now, and we are raising our girls to be women. She isn't a Stargate fan, and I was trying to explain why I liked a scifi show so much. During our discussion, I reminded her of the pact saying that the Sam Carter was a woman not a lady. My friend nodded in understanding and started asking more questions about Stargate. I think Sam/Amanda may have a new fan soon.

OK, so I went and plotted the ratings again... this time taking into account what were SciFi vs. syndication ratings. Except for the Season 10 premiere, all ratings are from GW's Season rating pages.



So... it looks to me that the syndication ratings have been steadily dropping... but the folks on Stargate are all quoted as saying that the ratings definitely went up for Season 7 and then 8... so it would seem that they are looking at the Scifi showing ratings, which did shoot up for Season 8.

Season 9 however... and the season premiere of Season 10... a different trend....

Whether everyone tivos the show now or viewers simply stopped watching I don't know, but if I were a MGM or Sci-Fi executive, I'd definitely be wondering what the hell happened.

It's gets me really frustrated that we almost never see the outcome of a traumatic experience for Sam.

Jolinar wasn't that big. After season 4 she was almost never mentioned again. In total she got something like 5 eps where they said her name. Not a lot if you consider how bad that experience was supposed to be.

Martouf was nada. Never had anything after D&C. They still had some close bond. Jolinar woved some part of them together. Even if a lot of people didn't like it. Oh yeah...

Ripple Effect. Didn't she almost kissed him? Did they have an actual interesting talk?

Jacob was zip. Sam left for Area 51 and then? We didn't see anything after Threads. She even seemed happy at the end of Moeibus!

Janet was the end of Heroes. She cried over her, did her memorial service and never talked about her. She was her best friend FCOL!Besides Ripple Effect who wasn't that great for those two in the fans eyes.

Jack evaporated in tin air. After all he only was her commanding officer for eight years. TPTB could have at least showed one scene where she phoned to ask how he was or something. I'm sure they would have done it for Daniel. Although I begin to wonder... . Season 10 could smooth out some rough edges. Still, it's been 2 years already...

All that leds me back to a certain comment someone posted. She needs to have some frienships. And out of her work context. Does the woman socialize or not? Are we back again with working Sam, never leaving the base? Oh, I forgot, that's so much fun!

I want to see her have friends who she can talk to outside of Dabiel and Teal'c. There are some things you just can't tell your coworkers even if you're close and they are like family. I don't need to see a whole conversation with a friend or whatever. I wouldn't dare to ask in the first place. But a scene such as seeing Sam on the phone laughing and talking and being pagged (that's what we say huh?) because we need her for an emergency. Ending the conversation with an unfamiliar name would be really cool.

Or just seeing her eat or drink something in a coffeeshop with someone we never saw and the SGC calling her because they need her super smart brains to figure it out and her training to actually kick some a$$. I don't care which ones.

Anyway, this is the end of my rambling!
