Although I understand your general point, I'm not certain that Chekov, Harriman, or Hammond ever actually piloted their respective ships. Yeah, Hammond & Harriman stretched my disbelief, but they never claimed nor exhibited specialised technical skills surpassing those whose posts they assumed. Reading an automated computer display ("shields are down") or saying "You do this and you do that!" is a far cry from micromanoeuvring a damaged battle cruiser.
Actually there is a deleted scene from Prometheus Unbound up on the web somewhere where Hammond tells Walter to take the Prometheus out and he is actually flying the the plane. I believe he also flew the Gou'ald Cargo ship when they were chasing down Vala/Daniel on the Prometheus. But pilot skills are a dime a dozen on Stargate which explains why we rarely see Sam flying. There's really no need for her to do it now that everyone else can fly too. Honestly, I think it was a fluke that we saw Sam flying the X-302 in Covenant. I think they wanted to show Shaunessey's character flying in the plane and Sam was probably an afterthought. I mean why else would we see Sam flying in the pilot seat and then her never be allowed to fly it again?
sam and jack got the air medal for saving earth in serpents grasp/lair.
they have not ever received the CMOH. despite the fact that, over the years, they're done tons more heroic stuff than taking a shot and crashing their ship.
i file the cmoh blunder with the 'there's no zoo in colorado springs' comment from chimera....lack of reasearch on behalf of the writers (the cheyenne mountain zoo is quite famous and located about 10 miles from the SGC)
i think someone just pulled the name of a medal out of their heads and didn't bother to google it...or didn't listen to their military advsior who should have educated them on the importance and reverance of the cmoh.
IIRC JM said that this was intended as a joke. the point was that sam gets out of the mountain so infrequently that she is unaware that there is a zoo literally above her. of course, i don't recall an explaination for why pete didn't correct her by informing her that there was one. anyway, they knew there was a zoo, but were trying to make a joke about sam not getting out much. apparently.
well, if t was meant as a joke, it wasn't a well crafted one. because it didn't come across like sam not knowing, it came across as the writers not knowing.
it's like in sight unseen, when they 'close down colorado springs'...you CAN'T close down that city. its no tiny mountain town, it's a thriving metropolis, i think second only to denver in size. it's not a town, it's a city

you're preachin' to the choir!
hey, i didn't get the joke. even after joe had to explain it to pretty much everyone, i was like; "oooo-k, lets chalk that one up to the long hours in the writers room huh?"
y'know, i hear all this talk about the "how come?" room, and yet, some stuff just keeps slippin' past that radar.

I don't know how many of you watch Atlantis, but wasn't there a woman flying one of the fighter planes in the early scenes of last night's episode? I don't watch Atlantis as closely as SG-1, so I don't know if she's a regular or if she's been shown as pilot before. It was good to see a woman in the front seat, but I couldn't help feeling a pang that poor Sam hasn't gotten much flight time, and certainly not in combat situations.

Yeah, the zoo thing definitely came across as the writers not knowing.
One might hope that the Air Force had a pre-plan to shut down Colorado Springs knowing that something weird could happen with the Stargate. I didn't have too many issues with the way it was portrayed in Sight Unseen. Fourth Horseman, on the other hand, had me beating my head against a wall...

Yes! I noticed it, too. My friend and I were trying to figure out who it was, but we never did.

Cant remember very well, a pic would be great, but doesnt Petes' reaction kinda indicates that he thought it was bit wierd she didnt know there was a zoo there?!
Well either way I wouldnt know if a zoo really exists or not lol
