Well to make up for the snarkiness (I actually am positively intrigued with what the season opener has in store tonight), I'll post a tiny bit of the interview with AT, BB and RDA from Now Playing Magazine.

If no one's read it yet, the interview took place some time yesterday during the TCA Event.

Thanks for that. I'm somewhere in between somewhat intrigued and somewhat apprehensive. I guess I'll know in about 3 1/2 hours.

As for lurkers, based on what was said in BW's interview on GW's front page, one of them just might be him. If so, I bet he's not to happy with us at the moment. Oh well. I'm not too happy with the [email protected] at the moment either. Maybe that will change after tonight's episode.

Oh, there's one thing I wanted to ask of the people who were awake and on the Sci Fi site about 12 hours ago... Did anyone notice that there appeared to be a promo for Morpheus up there alongside the new pics?

I was on dial-up at the time, so I didn't even bother. However, now that I'm on DSL, I can't find it anymore. Do you think they took it down, because it was put of there by mistake?

I ask because...

...there was a pic of Sam and Daniel looking not-so-fantastic, and it was cute. I remember that Mallozzi mentioned a cool scene or two between them, so I'm interested to see how it works out, since we haven't had a lot of Sam/Daniel stuff in a LONG time.

It was actually spoilers for both Flesh and Blood and Morpheus I think. Some interesting stuff there.

and as for Mitchell I am not a fan of him. He has just been wrong introduced. TPTB really have a habit of doing that doesn't they?? I mean think about Jonas... He was also wrong introduced.

My thoughts on some of those decisions

Spoiler:

Someone made a deliberate and conscious decision that they needed a New Male Lead to be the Center of the Show. Someone made a deliberate and decisive decision that having a female in command of SG-1 (e.g. Carter) after RDA left would not be appropriate.

Who was this person (or people)? We may never know.

Or we may find out that it was 'studio execs'.

Or we may find out that it was the writers and other Stargate PTB... perhaps they were too afraid of losing the 'RDA formula'?

Or we could find out that the decision was made by, or in agreement with, female execs of power.

We just don't know who made this decision.

It is clear (to me) that the decision was made because they felt that the show would have wider acceptance, and wider appeal, and therefore make more money, if there was a central Male Lead Hero, around whom the show revolved.

This was a mistake... in terms of social conscience and social responsibility.

Was it a mistake in terms of $$? We'll never be able to say.

I do think, however, that the decision to take the new guy, the new male lead, and create The New Male Lead and New Center of the Show... that decision was made selfishly, not with a sense of social responsibility. By selfishly, I mean that someone made the decision because they believed that a New Male Lead Central Hero would bring in the most $$ (largest audience, etc.), for the show, it's producers and everyone involved.... not the least of which was themselves (him or her). Ultimately, it comes down to how much $$ do they think they are going to make. And/or how will their projected 'success' (thier hoped-for increased numbers) of the show further their career? Selfish. But also part and parcel of private enterprise.

Could they have attempted to create new stories and new arcs that were exciting and suspenseful and enticed new viewers - even with a female in command of SG-1? Sure. But they didn't want to try. They figured it was too big of a risk and too much effort... and why do that, why take that risk, when they figured that they already knew the 'Sure Formula For Success' = A Central Male Lead around which the show revolves.

Disappointing.

So... those are just my thoughts...

I wasn't expecting 'Women's Lib' plastered across the front of the Stargate.

In fact, I was hoping it (gender equality) would be a non-issue. That Carter would command competently and heroically... but that she wouldn't have to have the show revolve around her. I was looking forward to the new characters. I had no preconceptions about the actors from Farscape, I harbored them no ill-will. But then, I didn't realize that the show would end up basically re-fashioned to center around the Farscape actors inside the SG-1 universe. How messed up is that?

I was hoping that with Carter competently in command... and with her gender *not* being slapped in everyone's face (no diatribes like the arm-wrestle challenge)... I was hoping that that solid competence would go oh, so much further in terms of simply establishing basic equality in terms of capabilities.

I liked it. I liked season 9 more that I did season 8. Maybe I just remembered the scripts from season 8 and that made me enjoy it less.

One thing I didnt like was, cant remember the name of the ep, when Daniel is on the planet that has the Ori satilite (sp) and Cam and Sam have to decide if they are going to fire or not...Cam looks at her like: Fine! All decide!

I'm not really suprised that he reads what said on the fourms. It's only good buisness sense that he or an Ad. agency more than likely scans various fourms, boards, and lists to find out how they like what's seen.

O.K., sometimes we might get a little out of hand, but most of the time we are pretty fair. We just know what we want to see, and that is why they are lurking here. They want to know what we want to see also. Unfortunately, they want to know what the folks on the other boards want too, and they get in trouble trying to make us all happy. So, I'm sorry PTB! I know your doing the best you can, but sometimes (leadership of SG1) we disagree. We will rant and rave, but you are welcome to make it up to us with more original team time.

What a cutie! He is a tabby with tortie coloring. See the M on his forehead, the eyeliner around his eyes and the stripes; classic markings of a tabby. I have one of those too and she is a blast. A tabby can be any color, but I believe it is the markings that define it a tabby.
