Originally posted by ForeverSg1I may have been disappointed with season nine and I am more nervous than excited about season 10 beginning tonight, but I think the cast and crew of Stargate deserve a big thanks for giving so much of themselves to us the past ten years. Even if season nine was a dud in some people's minds, the good still outweighs the bad over the past decade and I truly am grateful to them all. Here's hoping they start getting the recognition they deserve.
As in, it's definitely getting me revved up for this evening.

That's another thing I don't get. Bonnie Hammer is supposedly in charge of SciFi, and yet she let the [email protected] get away with the leadership travesty. You'd think she'd have had a bit more to say about it wouldn't you?sigpic

But, of course, she's so very cuddly with AT.
Was that too snarky?
At any rate, I'm wondering if she really agrees with these decisions, or if she's decided that she'd rather like having a job for the next ten years. We'll never really know.Last edited by the dancer of spaz; 14 July 2006, 12:08 PM.

Originally posted by KatGNah. Not too snarky at all. In fact I think you need to work on it.
Well to make up for the snarkiness (I actually am positively intrigued with what the season opener has in store tonight), I'll post a tiny bit of the interview with AT, BB and RDA from Now Playing Magazine.
If no one's read it yet, the interview took place some time yesterday during the TCA Event.
Originally posted by Now Playing Magazine...Tapping was still a bit incredulous that the show has gone on so long, and credits the fans with its success. “God bless our fans,” she said. “I’m telling you. Because of them in season seven bumping up our ratings, that’s why we’re still here. Not many shows have made it this far, and they only do because you’ve got people supporting it.”
Spoiler:Tapping also hinted at what’s to come on tonight’s season premiere, which wraps up the cliffhanger at the end of the season. “I’m still floating in space,” she said. “And we don’t know who’s blown up. You’ll be able to tell by what actors show up at this party as to who survives [laughs]. And it basically sets up our season. It sets up everything for our season. ... There are a couple of standalone episodes, but it’s very much the arc of the Ori."
EDIT: Hmmm. 22 viewers? Is it me, or have we been getting a lot of lurkers lately?

My thoughts on some of those decisionsSpoiler:Someone made a deliberate and conscious decision that they needed a New Male Lead to be the Center of the Show. Someone made a deliberate and decisive decision that having a female in command of SG-1 (e.g. Carter) after RDA left would not be appropriate.
Who was this person (or people)? We may never know.
Or we may find out that it was 'studio execs'.
Or we may find out that it was the writers and other Stargate PTB... perhaps they were too afraid of losing the 'RDA formula'?
Or we could find out that the decision was made by, or in agreement with, female execs of power.
We just don't know who made this decision.
It is clear (to me) that the decision was made because they felt that the show would have wider acceptance, and wider appeal, and therefore make more money, if there was a central Male Lead Hero, around whom the show revolved.
This was a mistake... in terms of social conscience and social responsibility.
Was it a mistake in terms of $$? We'll never be able to say.
I do think, however, that the decision to take the new guy, the new male lead, and create The New Male Lead and New Center of the Show... that decision was made selfishly, not with a sense of social responsibility. By selfishly, I mean that someone made the decision because they believed that a New Male Lead Central Hero would bring in the most $$ (largest audience, etc.), for the show, it's producers and everyone involved.... not the least of which was themselves (him or her). Ultimately, it comes down to how much $$ do they think they are going to make. And/or how will their projected 'success' (thier hoped-for increased numbers) of the show further their career? Selfish. But also part and parcel of private enterprise.
Could they have attempted to create new stories and new arcs that were exciting and suspenseful and enticed new viewers - even with a female in command of SG-1? Sure. But they didn't want to try. They figured it was too big of a risk and too much effort... and why do that, why take that risk, when they figured that they already knew the 'Sure Formula For Success' = A Central Male Lead around which the show revolves.
Disappointing.
So... those are just my thoughts...
--------
I wasn't expecting 'Women's Lib' plastered across the front of the Stargate.
In fact, I was hoping it (gender equality) would be a non-issue. That Carter would command competently and heroically... but that she wouldn't have to have the show revolve around her. I was looking forward to the new characters. I had no preconceptions about the actors from Farscape, I harbored them no ill-will. But then, I didn't realize that the show would end up basically re-fashioned to center around the Farscape actors inside the SG-1 universe. How messed up is that?
I was hoping that with Carter competently in command... and with her gender *not* being slapped in everyone's face (no diatribes like the arm-wrestle challenge)... I was hoping that that solid competence would go oh, so much further in terms of simply establishing basic images of equality in terms of capabilities.

Oh, there's one thing I wanted to ask of the people who were awake and on the Sci Fi site about 12 hours ago... Did anyone notice that there appeared to be a promo for Morpheus up there alongside the new pics?
I was on dial-up at the time, so I didn't even bother. However, now that I'm on DSL, I can't find it anymore. Do you think they took it down, because it was put of there by mistake?
I ask because...
Spoiler:...there was a pic of Sam and Daniel looking not-so-fantastic, and it was cute. I remember that Mallozzi mentioned a cool scene or two between them, so I'm interested to see how it works out, since we haven't had a lot of Sam/Daniel stuff in a LONG time.

An excellent post Astro, I'm out of green for you!!
I agree with you wholeheartedly, though a little bit of me wonders if it is down to Rob Coop and wanting out with the old in with the new and to make a bit of a name for himself creating a very different SG1.
It is very different, in my opinion much more immature, superficial, lazy and lacking in creativity. The original SG1 you just can't better, the team based eps were a joy to watch and the shows were very tightly focused. To me the season 9 shows I have watched all seem a bit wooly somehow, a bit surreal, even the direction is very different. It just isn't the show I loved so much.
To me the Ori are a bore already. I much prefered the Goaul'd. To have one season largely focussed on the Ori is disapointing. I loved the way the old SG1 brought in new adversaries. I loved the replicator arc - the whole of it and I would have loved to see more of the Aschen. The show did need a new baddie, but to me the Ori just don't make the cut for a major run.
I really wish that that someone Astro, had never been allowed to have the freedom to change the show in such a way. If the network wanted SG1 to continue, it should have been true to the fans who have been supporting it for 8 seasons and the actors who have sweated cobs over the years. The new direction should have come with a new show.
I really wished I liked the show I really do. I really want to support Amanda and watch her act, but life is too short to follow a tv series for the albeit too brief appearance of one particular actor. Unless you guys tell me season 10 is fantastic or Sam features as much as she should and it is once more like the SG1 of old (team and stargate focussed). I won't be tuning in.

Is AT going to Comic Con? So far, they only list CJ as going among the main cast.
The last couple years at Comic Con they have had two seperate panels an hour long each for SG-1 and Altanis but this year they only have a one hour block for both shows - that being the case they have most of the Atlantis cast going to Comic Con.
I will be at Comic Con so I will report on who ends up attending next week.
Cliff Simon and Gary Jones are going to be at Avatar Presses both signing autographs for those that go to Comic Con.

Originally posted by tsaxladyHey Spaz - yep it was the trailer for Morpheus that they originally poste instead of the S10 premier trailer - it was like that all night until someone at SciFi realized the mistake and changed the trailer - My guess is the Morpheus one will go back up either tonight or Monday.Should've downloaded it when I had the chance.
Oh well.
