Yeah, I've voted a bit for RDA, but I'm kind of caught up in the AT mission.
I have thrown a few votes Don's way. Probably the only one, but I miss Gen'l Hammond. I loved his relationship with Sam. He was both paternal and respectful of her. Looking at Season 2 episodes like "message in a bottle" even, he listened to her advice and she was only a Captain at the time.

Hammond and Sam had some really good interaction going on... I loved those 2 togheter... you can see that Hammond respects sam for what she is capable of doing. He does not see her as a woman. He sees her as an excelent scientist with some flaws in it. I mean he knows that she can make mistakes but he knows that she really tries to do her best. when she says to him in missage in a bottle that the oxygen has to go down and then she is saying the other way around... You see that Hammond doesn't like the idea but he knows that she knows what she is doing so... he lets her do
Or when in matter of time she explains everything to him with that donut... I mean the experts worked on it a longer time but still Hammond trusts on Sam to find a better solution...and her solution was the way out of it.

I showed my mom the same picture I'd shown my brother(I mentioned that earlier) and asked her how old she thought AT was.

She said "Hmmmm. Not very old. 35 or younger."

When I said she was 40 she just could not believe it. What makes it even better is AT is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the out. (((Amanda)))

You know what? I want a sexy, skin-revealing, well endowed male super villian to counterbalance - I dunno ... Baal in tight leather (or something ), and can we get a few gratiuitous crotch shots in there, too? It's the same darn reason I never get naked MEN in my email porn spam filter. Equality, dammit! Anubis wore a frickin ROBE, FCOL. And his "ascended" self...? Don't even GET me started...

That's perfect. Now if we could just get them to script that into the episodes, I'd say all's fair. He can balance out Vala. Of course, we'd still need a comparable super villain.

Alas, no, but it's a brilliant fanwank.
Really, that's about the only way to make that scene palatable, IMO. I hate, hate, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate that scene, probably the low point of Heroes, Pt. 2, IMO. For one thing, the script manages to make the post-mortem situation All About Sam. In fact, this is the only episode in which I actively dislike Sam ... which is saying a lot, coming from me. She doesn't say tickety-boo about Fraiser, waves Cassandra's plight away with the infamous "She's a tough kid; she survives," and then it's all, Oh Sir, I was sooooooooooooooooo worried about you! Sniff! Sniff!"
( ... and let's not mention the Shippy Piano of True Love, pouring romantic syrup all over everything. Good. I'm glad we didn't mention it.)
What gravitas the scene possesses, it owes to RDA (and he absolutely shines in his limited screen time), whether it's the bitter understatement of "It didn't help Fraiser much" and the dignity of "C'mere." I don't get any shippy vibes from Jack here: RDA plays it absolutely straight.
Dang it all! I didn't realize how much I miss the character of Jack until this very moment. Now I need a hug.

You guys have such interesting discussions ... I wish I could keep up with the message volume, but ... work, family ... you know.

Hi gang I'm back home and rying to get caught up on things.

Kat the SG-1 set does not have air but the SGA set does and the scenes in the replicator ship are filmed in the hallway in the SGA set. The one were we walked on the walkway and they were working on some new set piece down below. That is the Blade Trinity Set.

Wow. Couldn't disagree with ya more (speaking of brilliant fanwanks)

I really think Amanda pulled that scene off well; because I think the entire point of it WAS Sam Carter. That was Sam's scene. That was Sam's realization that the loss she experienced almost extended to all of her friends. If she'd overflowed with sobs over Janet's death in that scene, I think it would definitely have have come across way over the top. Sam was also struggling with her own innate compuslion to HIDE what she's feeling. The Cassie comment was filled with innuendo that there was a lot more there. You can't take it at face value and brush it away. Sam Carter handles grief like she handles most of her dangerous heavy emotions - by avoiding them. And she does that well. It's *not* a shippy scene. Jack (the Colonel) is the strongest person in Sam's sphere. She looks to him and respects him as a power-point; she went to see him because she felt like it was all falling apart, and it was a scene where Sam doesn't *want* to tell him that she was (and is) scared. Admitting to being scared for him wasn't something she wanted to do. It wasn't something she'd planned on doing. The way it came out was meant to represent a larger metaphor for more than that; for all of them. That scene was not about "Sam + Jack = Lurve". It was about "Sam + Heavy Unwanted Emotions = What the Hell Do I Do With All Of This?" and she sought out the strongest presence in her sphere for a reason. You can call me a fanwank for seeing that if you'd like to, but frankly I can't see how ya didn't see it. It was a powerful scene. And no amount of anger over Janet's death (justified or otherwise) can really detract from that. Dealing with Janet's death was something they didn't do well, later on. But that is an entirely seperate issue than that particular scene. And Amanda's tremendous acting therein.

So I loved seeing Amanda in that Season 10 preview thing. She is SUCH a ham, isn't she?

Anyway, although the quality of the video was unbelievably crappy, I figured I'd make a few animated GIFs of Amanda doin' her THANG.

Amanda as Elvis..."Unhunh...Unhunh...Don't you step on my blue suede shoes":

Amanda taking a well deserved bow *Oooober gives standing ovation*:

Amanda...proving once and for all that she is, in fact, a spaz...doing "The Amanda" (soon to hit dance floors all over the North American and European continents):

                        Oh yeah...she's one of us.

                          A little tangent....

I don't quite know why they've gone the route they have with Landry. Hammond's greatest strength as a character was the quiet sagaciousness he brought to decisions. Despite all the wackiness going on at the SGC with all the sundry SG teams, he never came across as flummoxed or out of his element or unsure of what his options were. I can't say the same for Landry, who does not come across to me as the model of assurance. Sure, Landry gets the job done (that red phone is easy to use, despite the sanguine color), but always in a more flustered, more spastic manner than is customary at SGC. Maybe it's the rigidness with which Beau plays him that makes me feel that way. Maybe it's the way Mitchell snaps to attention when in his presence, which is always manages to indicate how uncomfortable his presence makes others feel. Either way, I just don't feel that Landry's character adds to the competancy and elite nature of the SGC the way Hammond's did.

Like others have mentioned, Hammond also had the ability to play a paternal figure to SG-1, too. His relationships with Sam and Teal'c, in particular, were fashioned in that manner. Landry, conversely, is never going to get there with the team. For one thing, all of the team is so much older than they were when they met Hammond. They're all also way, way, way more experienced with the stuff they're dealing with, negating any experiential wisdom he might dispense. Oh, and of course he's got his issues with his own daughter, which cancel out (and then some) any impression I get that he might be able to convincingly play a paternal figure for anyone.

Further, Hammond brought the ability to play equal to Jack O'neill (not RDA). For all his years of experience and black ops, for all the seasoned miltary airs that Jack exuded so natually, Hammond was the only other military officer ever presented with a position equal to O'neill's. In large part it was due to the way RDA played Jack when around Hammond, with a more passive and reverential wit than with others. I think the only time Landry has ever come across as George Hammond's equal was when he was playing chess with Jack. I found Landry a promising figure there, but don't feel he's lived up to his introduction.

To end this rambling, I'm curious to see how Landry fits in this season. Hammond certainly changed for the better by season two. Here's hoping the same can be said of Hank.
