They just need to remember that those great character & friendship moments can be woven into an episode that's about something else. It doesn't have to be "this is the episode where we learn about Cam's demons" or "this is the episode where Vala and Sam bond" they can develop that by working together. I don't think there was a blatant "Sam and Janet become friends" episode, but yet they did. It takes some subtlety I think and perhaps thinking ahead.
On a different, but related note: I saw S. Epatha Merkerson (sp?) on "Inside the Actor's Studio a few weeks ago. (I dealt with the annoying James Lipton

b/c I'm a L&O fan).There was a question about how do you develop a character in a procedural show like Law and Order? She said something to the effect of: you (the audience) learn about the characters by how they work the case. I think to a large degree, in Stargate you learn about the characters by how they deal with the situations they encounter and how they work with each other. Make any sense?

It makes perfect sense and the characters come off as more believable and empathetic. Oh for the old days, when they knew how to write this

A long time ago, Strix posted links to a bunch of Sam whumping stories, and here are some of them. It's still a lot to sift through, but hopefully you can find some gems. I'm not sure if all the addresses still work, but it's worth a shot.

I looked at that. I was actually reading it backwards! Don't ask me why, cause I have no idea. I guess it's because I have this bad habit of reading the end first. I even do that with books! I flip to the last page and see what happened.

there's one huge difference between sam and rod.

rod has an ego. a HUGE ego. and a fear of failure that makes him bluster

sam, on the other hand, has more confidence than rod does. more practicality, more awareness of hte real world.

just think...how would things be different if sam - kinda like geek sam - never joined the military...and rodney did.

think how massively different they'd be

Sam is grace under pressure. McKay is...not.
