could you explain that? (i'm in no way saying you're wrong, especially since i don't know what you mean.) you think that there's insider interference and politics biasing awards, but that doesn't make the award less meaningful? so, the award could well be based on, or heavily influenced by, who pays the most, but it doesn't make the award less legit? because, to me, an award that is won like that recognizes the amount of money someone's willing to put in (or, as some think, the number of people willing to sit at their computers and click a button), not the quality of someone's art. if i made an award, which i shall name Bob, and gave it to the person who's name i picked randomly out of a hat, i don't think Bob would recognize anyone's work. so i'm not sure what you mean here.

and i'm glad the spacey people have measures in place to block cheating. do we (read: you, because i'm totally ignorant to this stuff) know how well they work?

MG, my answer: i would have been happy. about as happy as i am about the WSL poll, HH game, and Bob. not as happy as i am about Leos, though. because, in my eyes, they simply don't mean as much. though i would have fun joking about where she'd put all of them. but i agree, we wouldn't be having this conversation. EDIT: actually, i take that back. we would be, expect it'd be me in your place saying that its not as meaningful as it's made out to be. what would you be doing?

Answer that honestly, even if it's just in your own heads.
My honest answer is that I never gave the Spacey awards that much credit, sorry but that's just how I view it, even when RDA and SG-1 were winning them.

I agree. Emmys are notoriously difficult to get nommed for with Sc-Fi as a genre. Geminis, too, frankly. Which is even more reason the smaller awards are meaningful to the folks who work on sci-fi stuff. It's an opportunity they might not otherwise have, due to the politics of the industry.

I bet you Amanda would show up and/or otherwise be receptive to a lot of these 'smaller' awards were she nominated and/or if she won. I think she's proved that in the past, and I admire her a great deal for that. Because her presence dignifies the awards and dignifies all the people who win those awareds who are less 'known' than she is, as a result. It takes people like her, who don't stand on snootiness and/or undue pride, showing up and being genuine at many of these sorts of smaller award ceremonies, or on television in accepting, to enhance their credibility and allow them to grow into :bigger deal" awards.

I somehow highly doubt that Amanda herself would look down her nose at any of the smaller awards out there, and that's a quality I hold in the very highest esteem.

you know, i've wondered that about him too. i could see sam saying to him, 'we're not indestructible, cam. even though alien intervention has stepped in to help us out, we 'have' died a time or two... please stop trying to see how many lives sg1 has left in it'.

in the dream, i was lying in bed and suddenly realizing that i was watching the season premier for s10. i knew they were doing a one-time-only deal where they'd show the ep (it was morning that i was watching it). anyways, it showed sam coming out of a flight area (that looked super cool and pretty), wearing a white and tight flightsuit (think what sam and jack wore in the s6 premier). so, sam's walking out when she passes by daniel. they both do a double take and come back to one another. they hug like they haven't seen each other in months, but so hard that they fall onto the ground... and then daniel starts kissing her. passionately. and sam's into it. he's on top of her, while ppl around them do their job. suddenly sam comes to her senses and pushes him off (you can tell she's irked that this happened, like she's saying, 'get the hell off me!'). while she's sitting up, you can see that the zipper on her flightsuit is down and is revealing her ample cleavage.

so, as a viewer of this ep, i'm immediately steaming and angry. not only for throwing in a sam/daniel shippy scene, but that sam's flightsuit outfit is obviously non regulation and that the only reason the writers did it was for the titillation. so i was ticked, but mainly because of the out-of-nowhere sam/daniel ship. and i hated the writers and certain ppl for it. :/

then i continue to watch, hoping for some explanation. then my mom comes in and i tell her about what happened. then another scene comes and i realize that i'm hoping that either sam or daniel weren't the real sam or daniel (like one was an imposter), and that it would explain what happened. so i'm anxious to see this confirmed, and then some noise happened and i woke up. with great relief that it was just a dream!

but that kind of dream only shows what i think this show (and the ppl making it) are capable of doing. and i believe they would.

            k, done with whiney dream.

It simply means that a small group of fans had a lot of free time on their hands. Which is why I really don't bother voting for such things. It was much like the Buzz poll that Amanda was on last year. Yes it was cool that enough people voted for her to boost her up on the poll for a few days, but in the end it all comes down to which fan group has the most time to sit in front of their computer screens and hit the enter button repeatedly. I really don't consider that a true representation of how fans truly feel about an actor, a show or what have you.

As I said, if people are happy that SG-1 managed to snag a Spacy for season nine, then more power to them, but personally I don't share those views.
Don't mean to keep delurking to talk about the Spaceys. But as far as I could tell, it was totally different than those polls that most sites put up where you can vote as often as you wnat. Those are a totally different thing. In the Spaceys, if you went back after casting a vote, the site showed that you had already voted and it showed you which of the 4 or 5 "fan" awards you'd voted for. I have no idea how someone could vote more than once. And as for the Best Ensemble Award that SG-1 won from the Spaceys, that award was not decided by fan vote at all. I'm not sure who picks the non-fan-vote awards, maybe the TV network, maybe a specially chosen group of people? I don't know. But fans could only vote for about 4 or 5 awards total. The rest came directly from the Spaceys people.

I also have friends who've won Spacey awards, and not only did I feel tremendous pride on their behalf, but the fact is ... they worked damn hard on the projects they created, too. Would you stand in front of any one of them and tell them the award was a piece of garbage? That it doesn't mean much? I don't think so. I get that you feel strongly about the SG-1 related aspect of these particular awards, but c'mon. You don't really know what you're criticizing here. You're reacting and I'm sorry - but you're wrong. People win Oscars and Emmys and I often think someone else should have won instead. I can rage and claim politics, insider interference, etc etc., but at the end of the day, the award itself is no less meaningful. Nor the accomplishment(s) of those who were nominated and/or recognized for their art.

I wouldn't have voted for Mitchell for a Spacey award. But I won't disparrage the entire awards simply because I feel that way.
Forgive me, but how can I be wrong when all I am doing is giving my own opinion on a subject. I did realize that this was a topic where either you were right or you were wrong. Or does my opinion only count if I agree with yours?

This was a simply matter of opinion. I posted my opinion that SG-1 had not won any awards for season 9. ShardsofGlass replied by stating that they had won the Spacey Awards and I replied to her stating that I personally did not consider the awards as prestigious as say a Leo or a Saturn award. I do not believe I ever stated that ShardsofGlass should not be happy that they had won that particular award. I just stated that in my opinion it was rather sad that the only recognition SG-1 received this year for their work was the Spacy Awards. Now you are telling me that my opinion is wrong. Forgive me, but there have been many times when you and others have posted an opinion that I did not agree with and I don't believe I ever told you your opinion was wrong. But don't worry, I have deleted all my previous posts this evening.

The topic is closed on my part.

I just find it a little odd how the categories keep changing
But everyone can decide for themselves.
Nice work, Mandy! I find it odd that the categories change as well - especially when you look at 2006, and there evidently was no Canadian TV series nominated. While I'm not sure it's necessarily a reflection of the series, it is interesting.

I understand where you're coming from there, mini. I feel that way too sometimes when it comes to the fandom, and how we can sometimes apply double standards. But I can honestly say that, while I would've been pleasantly surprised to see AT win (let alone get nominated), I would have been wondering what they could have possibly been considering this season.

AT acted the socks off of what she was given this year. And it was great. But there was absolutely nothing provided for AT to really sink her teeth into, I think (and the same goes for MS or CJ, who let's face it, never would've been nommed ), and that explains a lot for me. It's logical. When the story is crap, of course none of the actors are gonna shine.

That's about as honest as it gets for me. I would've been happy for AT, of course, but I would've been interested to see what they'd used.

And the Spaceys are great, but they really don't compare to Leos or Geminis - no matter who wins them.

So do all you know about that short film Amanda did recently? For the Crazy 8 festival in Vancouver? I just got some details:

Quick breakdown of the festival... around 6 -8 groups of production teams get 8 days and $800 dollars to make a film...!!!

Amanda's is a comedy called Breakdown, in which the people who worked on it made up this fake script and pretended they spent 7 days in casting then cut the film together based on the auditions, so its all cut as if it were from auditions. Amanda played herself auditioning for the role of some woman trying to stop an earthquake. The film was about 10 mins long in total.

The website: http://www.crazy8s.cc/ does not yet have the clips from this years films, but they should be up soon??? *crosses fingers* As well the festival is apparantly planning on a near-future release of a DVD of all the shows from all it's years...

Just watching all the Podcast Videos now, havn't spotted Amanda but stay tuned... OOH, I just saw her BACK

Ok i've seen them all now, only a back shot, but stay tuned for the final podcast of the actual screenings event!

Apparantly the after party wasn't that great and Amanda buggered out after just a short while... lol, I figured as much.

                              MSam

AAAH, How come I never find out about these things till the day after... *sob* anyways, i'm trying to get more info...
