Oh yes i really think we do! but what ever tptb say will never sit right with me because they have chosen to write Cam the way they have.I thought he wanted to learn from the best so why does he not listen to Sam or for that matter Daniel or Teal'c? To me he comes across as an inexperenced idiot who gives no thought to the rest of the team and by doing so will get them killed.
It's such a shame because it would have been so differant if tptb had written him as a Major and really seen him learning not just from Sam but from all of the team, i would have loved to see his journey as a Major but as it stands with him now i just see him as an idiot and i'll have a hard job seeing him as anything else in the future which really is a shame.
Major would have been better, but he'd still come off as immature--more like a very green Lt, and it would be hard to believe he ever became a major. Sam in her most green Captain days had more judgment. I go back to the scene I mentioned last night in Bloodlines in S1. Daniel and Sam are walking along talking when Jaffa start shooting at them. Ok, they arguably should have been paying attention and not talking, but Sam recovers quickly. She determines where the shots are coming from quickly, pulls Daniel out of the line of fire, leads them to a slightly protected spot & takes out the Jaffa with a hand grenade.

The character of Mitchell, as he has been written, does seem to be suited to a younger actor (no offence to Ben Browder), a green lieutentant or captain at the highest who was added to SG-1 because Landry wanted a four-person team and is overjoyed and over-awed about it.

Sam probably had more sense in preschool than Mitchell has exhibited as a lieutenant colonel.
If I don't like the scene between Cam and Landry, I've decided to rewrite it to suit my preferences and declare it canon. I'm already doing that with the end of S8 and beginning of S9 in my new fanfic.
TPTB seem to be aware that Cam hasn't been universally welcomed as leader but my fear is that they will try to make him acceptable by forcing all other characters to pimp him as the greatest leader ever; Landry will pat his head, tell him what a good boy he is and scold SG-1 for being difficult, Jack will endorse him as a worthy successor to him (ignoring the fact that the officer he trained and groomed for command has been displaced) and Sam will refuse any suggestion that she should lead, insisting that Mitchell is the best choice. Yep, seems to be going in that direction. The Team is Dead; All Hail the King!
I can pretty much guarantee that there will be no canonization of Cam in any story I write. I hear ya!
Will you post a link to the story when it's done (or if it already is)? Season Nine was depressing. I need to read good fic to wash it out of my brain.
You know, if TPTB stayed true to Jack's character, he would be ranting at Mitchell like he did the officers he was training in Proving Ground. There's no doubt in my mind.
LOL, I hate to say it but Elliott and Hailey were later more prepared for action in the field and going through the Gate than our flyboy in some of his outstanding moments onscreen in S9.
Everyone seemed happier before rda left. The fans, the actors, the characters. I'm not sure about TPTB, it seems to me from reading a few random posts here that Rob Cooper is largely responsible for the downgrading of the show. Just for the record, is it the general concensus of the majority of like-minded, disgruntled fans such as myself that RCC is the RL equivalent of Ba'al and is succeeding in running the show into the ground or is it a combination of TPTB? The outward appearance at the moment seems to me to be a case of fanboys left at home while the parents go away for the weekend and they end up making a huge mess of the house. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

BTW I noticed that Jonathan Glassner is working on the CSI franchise now - looks like he got out before the ship sprung a leak!
I think RDA and Michael Greenburg often served as the checks and balances against the more far out ideas. I read somewhere that in S8, RDA said something to the effect of "ok, enough with Siler and the big wrench" for example. Some really good episodes (IMHO) were written by RCC. Maybe he should have stuck to writing. JM & PM were apparently more experienced in writing comedy than drama when they were hired. Maybe after becoming producers they were able to push the 'comedy' episodes.
I also noticed that Wm. Gereghty (sp) didn't direct this year. He had worked with RDA for many years. Was this b/c Mr. G wasn't interested in the new direction or that he is too serious a director for the new "fun! gang"? AT called him a "gentleman" and he was pretty skilled with the camera. His interest (based on what we heard in commentaries) was to "tell the story."

I'm up to Chapter 11 and want to complete the fic before posting. Last time, I posted Head Trip as a WIP and it left too many people hanging from chapter to chapter.
Soon, I hope. Soon! Thanks for the interest. It is Sam and Jack though so I hope you are open to that.
As my daughter's bumper sticker says, "Writing well is the best revenge." hehehehe

Sounds promising, despite S/J. (shudder, twitch) Our Samanda authors are definitely helping with the SDS (Sam Deprivation Syndrome).
This is semi-OT but still has a message for those of us who miss the good old days of Stargate SG1 ...
A sci-fi buddy sent me the DVD set of Season One of The Closer (TNT Cable Channel) with Kyra Sedgwick (Kevin Bacon's wife) starring as Chief Deputy Brenda Johnson. She works an elite homicide unit in L.A. in charge of mostly a bunch of men who hate her guts at first as she is a transfer cop from Atlanta. I just spent six hours watching the first several episodes. I noticed that a few of the shows were written by different women and the producer is a woman.
This show has everything: it's gritty and edgy and the heroine is quirky, tough, vulnerable and smart. As a leader, she knows what she has to do for herself and how to delegate the rest. I love her sizing up a situation/crime scene and then delivering her orders rapid fire. It's rough going at first but she lets her actions speak for themselves (like Sam) and she does get results in the interrogation room (hence the title of the show).
I just thought to myself: what a premier first season! Every character draws you in! I found myself caring about each one of the cops, even the ones whom I would not want on my team. Why do I care? Because they are so well written and are so believable! Solid characterization is everything.
The women writers hold their own with the male writers. The bottom line is a quality product. I'm coming back for S2. No one is written as a caricature or "over the top for a laugh". It's all clever, fast, witty and the heroine tries to hide the chinks in her armor (love of junk food, her past indiscretions, her sometime troublesome need to go it alone). Yet, you see her emotions rise to the surface - she's not afraid to show her anger or compassion.
Seeing a quality product again just made me even more sad about the downhill slide of quality and care in Stargate.
I completely agree. I love this show. And I'll even bring it back on topic by saying that I'd love to see these writers writing for Sam. Then SG-1 would be a show to be proud of.

They were also all well aware of the fact that it wasn't a game. Mitchell doesn't seem to get that.
I sometimes wonder if he thinks that there's some kind of magical protection associated with SG-1, that everything will always work out in the end.
I don't know mitchell that good, but of what I saw of him the first 11 episodes... I have to say that I don't like him. He is so full of himself. and well I got the feeling he doesn't respect what other people think or do...
I really think he is not a good thing for the show... It has just changed to much.
