I'm usually next in the queue for season 9 bashing - but I think Amanda may have meant here that she had to try to find a way to fit into a new dynamic, not that she was feeling pushed out! The other cast members would have had 5 weeks are getting to know each other and settling into a groove. It must have been really odd for Amanda returning to the show when everyone had already gelled. I don't think she was moaning about it.

I don't think she was moaning either. But I do think that the fact that she had to come into a "new dynamic" is rather revealing. Now she may just be putting a positive spin on it or she may truly find it a fun challenge to work with the new actors. She did say in one commentary, for example, she always challenges herself at the beginning of the season to "find new ways into the character"...--nevertheless, I say that despite the fact that she was gone on maternity leave, she shouldn't (and MS & CJ shouldn't) have needed to fit into the "new show." The new stuff should have been structured around them and the characters they have been for 8 years. (Don't get me started on my view of Daniel in the first episodes...)

You asked for it ...

Well, first I replay the first eight seasons as the mood strikes (often), concentrating on the special Sam episodes and smiling a lot.

Then I try to sign up for paintball tournaments whenever I can. I've already purchased my camouflage outfit and built a model of a P90 in my basement. It's amazing what you can do with other people's scrap metal.

I rewatch Casablanca for the hundredth time, just to hear Bogie say "Play it again, Sam."

Next I turn to my collection of Bewitched episodes and watch another blonde named Samantha outsmart the men around her. I try to picture AT and RDA playing the leads. However, I keep getting AT and MS. Danny boy seems more of a substitute for Darren or whoever he is.

Of course, I visit the local science museum weekly - spending most time in the planetarium - gazing at stars, moonscapes, and other heavenly bodies through the telescopes or on the theatre screen. I try to imagine Carter bouncing around in her white space suit saying something like "One small step for Rob Cooper, one gigantic leap for Cam and Vala."

I go into the kitchen and make a souffle. "Here's lookin' at you, kid!"

I go to the Hells' Angels convention and purchase a leather jacket with all donations going towards disabled bikers. (There seem to be a lot of them.) I sit on a Harley Davidson in my leather jacket and say "Vroom, vroom. This one's for you, Sam."

I purchase a copy of Stephen Hawkings' book on physics and read it from cover to cover. Then I devour the pages of The Dancing Wu Li Mastersand try to understand what the heck I just read. But I FEEL CLOSER TO CARTER.

I learn to play a killer game of pool and collect all bets.

I talk about time travel during lunch breaks. Soon I'm dining alone. But Sam would understand.

I order blue jello and buy yellow bubblegum. I pop the bubblegum in my mouth and grimace. I sketch a picture of Thor.

I exchange my sneakers for combat boots. It is amazing what you can find in other people's trash.

I take a walk in the woods and play soldier with sticks. (My P90 really got smeared up in a paintball fight.)

I go to a Volvo dealership and gaze lovingly at a silver Volvo. Then I ask if they have any used 1960 models for sale ...

I find myself staring into my toilet bowl and flushing it repeatedly while humming the Stargate theme.

And then, only then, I settle down and continue writing my Samfic, hoping to post it before the new season, the season of dread, begins.

"It was the best of times; it was the worst of times ..." Sigh, scratch that line - I think it's already been used.

No I'm serious Really. ... But based (solely) on that clip I'd say I'm more like Chris than Amanda. You guys going to AT2 are gonna have to deal with my incessant sarcasm and my propensity to make fun of anything that isn't nailed down (and most of the stuff that is, actually). Ah well. I can't help it. I'm just......not.......capable.........of.........taking.......myself......seriousl y...... d'oh. Maybe in time..... or, y'know, with therapy.

Sky, I'm with you on this. Jolinar's arc held such potential ... it was an amazing storyline and gave AT such dramatic moments.

My fear is that they will play up Vala's "expertise" with Goa'uld technology to the expense of what Carter could bring to the table. I'd even accept Carter learning some tricks from Vala ... but I bet that won't happen. Didn't AT just mention in her last interview that they did have an important scene spelling out the growing friendship between the two women and it ended up on the cutting-room floor. Yep, get those bang-bang SFX in!

We've mentioned here before about the self-conflict for Sam in using the devices - when she had to kill Seth and when Jack tries to say something to her ... she just stares him down and walks away. Yes, I'd put Jolinar and mastery of Goa'uld devices on my list too. AT has also said that she wishes Carter would make a major discovery/breakthrough which would help civilization. Her use of the healing device could be the plotline to move this forward. Wishful thinking, eh?!

Heck if the only way to get Sam scenes is to make them also Vala scenes have Vala and Sam discuss their mixed feelings on their ability to use Gouauld devices.

Spoiler:

Vala was using the healing device in that one episode w/ the Ori plague & showed a slightly human side in that ep.

It doesn't have to be the focus of an episode to make a nice scene for both characters. (Of course, I'm more concerned that it make a nice scene for Sam and AT. )

I ask this for a couple reasons...one, spoilers from Bounty give insight into Mitchell's age and...two, I saw on another forum that they thought she was in her mid to late forties. But since that forum is, let's just say, not known for it's Samanda love (), I highly question their interpretations.

I believe (on the show) Sam is supposedly younger than Amanda. I know they showed her birthday on a screen at one point - but I don't put much stock in those sorts of things because they're fluid canon. Her exact age per that computer monitor is pretty moot, but in general, I think her intended age range appears to (currently) be latter thirties. Because I believe she joined the SGC/SG-1 in her latter twenties. To be honest, I wouldn't put Sam at more than 2 years younger than Amanda in order for her experiences and her credentials to fit properly with her character. So I'd say Sam is somewhere between 37 and 39.

The only date of birth provided for Sam was in "Entity" - 29th December 1968. I thought that made her a bit older than Amanda Tapping but apparently it's the other way around.

now i put sam more in the 37-38 bracket simply because of her achievements

Exactly. She should rightly be between 37 and 39 in order for her character credentials and experience(s) to make sense.
