Believe me, that would never happen. Sam is far too good/complex of a character for the writers to ever be able to screw that up.
True. Even if they gave us a season or seven worth of crappy writing for Sam, they wouldn't be able to take away from the amazing character we know and love.
i don't hate it. Can't say that i've ever seen them as anything more than bro and sis though.
on the show, sam/dan and sam/teal'c are just friends. in fic???? well in fic i'll play with sam/teal'c but still can't wrap my head around sam/dan. it's like sam/jonas, they'll never be more than friends in my book
Well, to each their own, right? Just as I can't really wrap my head around S/J (please don't throw anything at me!!).
And fic is my sanctuary for S/D because I know it will never be shown onscreen...
I actually don't mind it. I don't see it, at least not after S1, but I don't mind it. In fact, if it's well written, I can even read it.
Thank you. Sadly it cannot really be seen much after S1, at least not onscreen, so I've basically stopped looking for ship onscreen. Friendship moments are enough to keep me happy.
One of my problems with S9 was the early interaction between Daniel and Sam. Daniel and Sam bonded early on and I've always liked their close relationship and rapport. In New Order (can you tell I'm reviewing for the s8 voting?) Daniel
Spoiler:
was the one pushing the idea that Sam could still be alive and he reacted strongly when they were told there were no life signs. He has a great smile on his face when they find her alive.
Then when Sam comes back in season 9
Spoiler:
it's like ho hum, here we are. I know they had a couple of lines indicating they'd talked while she was gone, but I found it kind of lame. It wasn't really until the out of phase episode that we saw some of their old rapport.
Just because you add new characters doesn't mean the old ones lose their bonds. I'm hoping they deal with the Vala "fish out of water" situation--her having to break into the tight knit Big 3--with as much emphasis on the big 3 as on her. Kind of like they did with Jonas. Ok, I'm in an optimistic mood at the moment.
That is exactly how I feel - you summed it up so well. I was pretty disappointed by the way Daniel acted when she came back in season 9. Sure he did
Spoiler:
say it was nice to have her back, and then in Ex Deus Machina he helped her move her stuff into her lab
but it definitely wasn't up to par with the way they interacted in season 8, as least IMO. I wrote a fic to vent my frustration with this, as well as with the fact that Vala was being added to the mix this season. There's quite a bit of angst in it and I didn't advertise it anywhere because I thought many would find at least some of the characters (especially Sam) out of character. It did help me feel better to write it, though.
But anyway, I agree with you. And that's one reason why I hope Vala won't be paired with Daniel in every episode that he appears in because I think it would really strain the bonds he has with Sam and Teal'c. It would be nice to see them do with her like they did with Jonas... but I'm also being a bit optimistic, I think.
Well, to each their own, right? Just as I can't really wrap my head around S/J (please don't throw anything at me!!).

*sniffles because she suddenly feels very alone*
To each their own indeed, cause I find it very difficult to see Sam and Daniel in a romantic sense. I won't throw anything though!
I think fic is a sanctuary for all of us. It's where we read and/or write something we want to see in the show, but know it probably won't ever happen.
And don't feel all alone. Everyone here at Samanda loves Sam. It's something we all share, despite who we pair her with!
I noticed that too. Sam and Daniel clicked straight away in "Children of the Gods" but in "Beachhead", it's apparently been a couple of weeks since they spoke. That didn't make sense.
I agree completely that you can introduce new characters without taking away from the bond that the established characters share. In fact, I would say that if the new character cannot be brought in except at the expense of the established characters and their bond, then it is far better not to bring the new character in at all.
It would have made for much better drama if Mitchell hadn't been accepted unreservedly by SG-1. I don't mean that they would be cool towards him, or deliberately exclude him or anything like that, but that he (and the audience) would be aware of their bond, that they were a family and he wasn't yet part of that family. The same with Vala.
Jack should have been spoken of often, by Daniel and Teal'c as well as Sam.
That's an interesting idea, and I think that could have worked well. I had a discussion with a friend about this and she said that when a new character is introduced, someone is going to be shoved out of the way. I don't think it has to be that way - and that it shouldn't be that way in this case. Let's not sacrifice Sam and Teal'c and have them become wallpaper so that Vala and Daniel and any relationship they might have will be the forefront of the show. The whole team dynamic would go out the window and would make me stop watching.
I'm with you. I see Sam and Daniel as more bro/sis than anything else. That doesn't mean I hate S/D shippers, just don't see it.
Yes, if you MUST know, I'm a J/S shipper, but I tend to keep it to myself (ok, except for that one post I just did) and just enjoy the show and posting here about Sam.
Well, I'm glad you don't hate S/D shippers, because I know people who do and I think it's sad. We all have different ships and I think we should be respected for them. In the same vein, I don't hate S/J shippers, I just don't see it. I tend to keep my ship to myself too when I'm in a relatively Gen discussion. I would have done it here, actually... but I forgot to turn my sig off... *blushes*
But we're all here to talk about Sam, so I'm totally on board with that!
One thing that's important to remember here is that this thread is all about Sam and Amanda. Since this is a character/actress thread, we can talk about the various aspects of her life...her loves, her losses, etc. and romance is inevitably considered as a small part of who she is and is most certainly up for debate amongst us all. Well we all have our issues on this particular topic.
Some of us like Sam/Jack, some like Sam/Janet, some like Sam/Teal'c, some like Sam/Daniel...etc. etc. and so forth...and some have nervous ticks that disrupt their equilibrium when the topic of ship is raised at all...like jckfan. (geez, folks I'm playing around here...jckfan, you know I lurve ya)
And we tease each other. Constantly. But with lurve and adoration. For instance, I'll post an Oooooooober shippy pic of Sam and Jack. And maybe Strix will respond with a picture of Sam and Janet. Then I'll say something snarky...yet lurving...about my poor Samandan friends who don't see yet the light about the wonder and HAWTNESS that is Sam/Jack, and tsaxlady will post a picture of Sam and Pete and a note with the verbal equivalent of giving me the rasberry.
AND WE ALL LAUGH ABOUT IT because it's fun.
My point is though that even if people don't appreciate a romantic relationship with Sam + person A, they more than likely appreciate the friendship between them. Then of course there is the fact that Sam is involved, and it's in a positive light of her character...which makes it a win all around!
I love Sam and Daniel's relationship so I hope you will post here often.
Oh and Welcome to the Kingdom of Samanda.
Thanks for the welcome. I guess I tend to take some things personally sometimes. I don't mind a little teasing, but only if it's not relentless, like "Sam and Daniel? Ewwwww gross!! They're only brother and sister, why do you have your stupid head stuck in the sand??" constantly. I see your point and I definitely subscribe to that thought. I do appreciate the friendship between Sam and person A, even if I don't appreciate romance with that person. And I am glad that there are people who appreciate Sam and Daniel's relationship, even if it is just friendship. People have been nice to me here and I do feel welcome, so I hope to post here as often as I can.
no. i just wanted an excuse to use that firemans pole that leads to the shipper cave. and to use the red button hidden under the statue of lincons head to open the door hiding them. and to have "POW!" and "ZAFF!" and "OOF!" appear on my computer screen when we virtually slap beakymoose and fishyone upside the face.
that does happen, right?
I'd like to virtually slap all the people that can't see the beauty and common sense of my ship.
Honestly, I never intended to convert beakymoose. I just let her read my fic. She did the rest.
And I love my fic and my ship, and nothing will change that. So smack me virtually as much as you want, but I'm happy where I am.
The really disturbing thing is, this is me on a GOOD day.

I didn't show my sig on my first post here. Then I did on the next one and went, "Oops. Cat's out of the bag now."
Realized I was off-topic. Came back to message to fix this.
Ship or not, I really like Sam's character, so I'm glad this thread exists.
