All of my opinions on this issue have been said here in much more eloquent terms than I possibly could have. My itty bitty two cents -- Stargate IS different now. It is NOT the same show that it was, and I have my doubts that these changes are for the better. I am deeply concerned about the seeming lack of respect and admiration that Amanda was given come contract time, not only because of my love of her character and the actress herself but also the very shady way that TPTB seem to have regarding those that they work with. As far as Vala goes...not a fan, and we'll leave it at that. I don't bash characters or fans of characters, but honestly, I would never have believed that such a character would have been added as a series regular a year ago. After "Prometheus Unbound" (which, um, stunned me to say the least), I got a little worried. Claudia Black is a talented, capable actress, and I have nothing but respect for her work; my beef lies with the incompatibility, irrationality, and unbelievablity of adding such a character to a show with the premise and style of Stargate. It doesn't fit, and that only leads to my being even more convinced that the Stargate we will see in the future will not be the one that we were first introduced to. /end rant.

And Sky, your question...hmmm...I guess I would say that after "Threads" and "Moebius" I would have ended the series; perfect ending IMHO. That probably doesn't exactly count as an answer you were looking for, so I'd have to go with having a scene between Sam, Jack, and Teal'c at the end of "Meridian". I would have definitely liked more team closure to the events of that episode...a quiet little mess hall scene or them going through Daniel's stuff or something.

Well the shipper in me says "Threads" because I want to know what happened at the cabin when Teal'c and Daniel were *cough* OH so conveniently called back to the SGC for some fill-in-the-blank problem that they absolutely had to handle on their own. And one that oh, quite coincidentally, JackcameupwithonthespurofthemomentsohecouldbewithSam.

For anything with actual substance, you'll have to give me some time to think on this, oh beloved mod of ours. I'm guessing you're looking specifically for a Sam-focused new ending right???

Oooooooooberness, my dear Royal Pain in the Mik'ta, the eeeeeeevil non-anti-other shipper in me would change Threads too. But before the fishing scene. Guess what ? I'm altering it before you, so I win. Mwahahaha !
I'd make Jacob stay alive. Sam needs Dad and Stargate needs Dad too. Jacob has fabulous interactions with every single character on Stargate. Killing him off was a waste, especially for Sam.

SQUEE! Heehee! I LOVE this one! *daydreams the shipping possibilities* Of course, you do know that Jack immediately sent Daniel and Teal'c out to go get pizza, which left him and Sam quite alone, right? They just happened to cut that scene off the end.

It's certainly not as satisfying, though.

A few years back I really think they'd have replaced it with another BRT, but these days the show's budget is stretched so thin already. I can see where they're coming from with the decision to go CGI. Also, given the ever-growing cast and the short life expectancy of SG-1 beyond that elusive "last season", the expenditure is probably not considered worth it. If they're going CGI, though, they could do it a little more often for my tastes. Enough with the damn ships already!

          Thanks for the infor ForeverSg1.
They do still have the location gate. In fact they took it to San Deigo last year for Comic Con. I have a couple of pictures of it some were at home - I'll try and dig them up and post them. It had some rough marks on it from all the moving around. It is large and not easy to move out on location.

Part of Johns talk on the issue of people going through the gate is the cost of the puddle pass. They don't do many puddle passes anymore because of the cost. The first few seasons they did more but as the seasons have gone on they have not decressed the number of times you see a team member walk through the gate. More often today when they travel by gate you see the team head up the ramp but not walk through the puddle then they cut to them on the planet.

Don't know if this has been said yet but he also mentioned that they have filmed a new kawoosh this year for the Atlantis gate.

Do you know, I kinda wish they'd do a whole spoof of Carter's black widow curse, or at least have her joke about it like that. And not Chimera-style

It was completely disrespectful and while there may have been "reasons" they don't *excuse* the behavior. This was probably a case of AT being too nice for her own good--"old reliable Amanda won't hold us up at the negotiating table, we can talk to her last." Grrr. Guess I just can't let go of this, can I?
I've always thought they were taking her for granted - figuring, they knew she loved working on the show, she won't have a problem if we're a little slow in getting in touch... I think they take advantage of her good nature - for example: they promised she could direct an episode - tell her it'll be one in the first half of the season, then change that to one right after the break, then change it again - when finally she's assigned one, it's the episode to be filmed last and she only has a week to prepare, while she's still working on Lost City...

All I can say is they are darn lucky she is so professional and such a good sport... I was really glad to hear about N. John Smith's comments at the con too...

well i didn't include window of opportunity because of its overt ship, and its not huge on sam development. i put threads in there because of the sam development, and its part of the big arc at the end of the season that was really important to the show.

i put mobius in because its a really great team ep.

i put grace in because its so important for sams character.

i put beneath the surface in because its really interesting to see that even when they don't know who they are, they are still the same people more or less.

                    and so on..

                      Now that? Would be great.

It'd be a great idea for the 200th ep...

on the change the ending of one episode topic, i think i can tell you what amandas would probably be.

she said in the red sky commentary that she wished the planet hadn't been saved in that one.

and i'd say she'd change the ending of affinity, but i'd change the whole episode

That's what I was thinking. Now, if I can't have my 200th like that, then I want my 250th like it!

((((Sky)))) Thanks for the encouragement! I'll try to hit the high points.

Vancouver was my first con so I was a little overwhelmed. Sunday brunch *cough* pre-dawn meal *cough* was at 7:45 am. As Amanda, J.R. Bourne, and Cliff Simon entered the room; the excitement started. My table was one of the last to be visited by all the stars. When Amanda walked up to the empty chair at our table, (note to future con attendees: if your table doesn't have an empty chair, go get one, and then place it next to you. ) she said, "they told me not to sit down, but whatever." She sat down, and asked how we were doing. She wanted to know where each of us was from. After telling her where I was from, she asked if we had met before. I told her "no" that this was my first convention. She did not want to let go of the idea that we had met before and informed me that I had a twin. I told her that I have heard that I have a twin, but I don't know her. Anyway, she would not leave the table until she had greeted each of the guests at the table. She is wonderful!

Later at the photo op, Amanda again asked if I was sure we hadn't met. (Ok, I'm starting to wonder if she is stalking me. ) I assured her we hadn't, and she called me her doppleganger. (I didn't know what that was until I looked it up ) At the autograph table, I had her sign my poster of Shippertown. Before she signed it, she read the history paragraph and laughed at "Shipper Rehab". After signing it, she shook my hand! WOW!! I then said, "Now, we've met!"

Just as a side note to speak to Amanda's generosity: Amanda was pressed for time during the autograph session because she needed to get home to Olivia. She was trying to leave at 4pm, but she stayed until each person got her autograph. I am blown away by her kindness to her fans.

                              That's my close encounter!

                              Token ~

                                Well... 200th Ep Spoilers...
                                Spoiler:
In the insanity that is "200," it would seem that each character will get an opportunity to suggest plot details for the Wormhole X-Treme feature film. Perhaps someone can suggest it to poke fun at Sam. I can see either Daniel or Jack doing it, actually.

That's going to be an interesting trip.
