Sam Carter/Amanda Tapping Discussion/Appreciation

me too, know of any good sam fic out there?

I suck at remembering names and titles. Last good Samfic I read was probably one of Astrogeologist's (I went through all her stories on ff.net a couple of weeks ago), but you've all read those (awesome though they are!). So... 'fraid not.

ON EDIT--> Oh, have you guys read "Danny Day Care" by Kate McKay on fanfiction.net? It's a really good read, not completely Samfic, it's got a lot of Teamfic in it and doesn't stray from canon (relationship wise). Essentially the schtick is that Daniel gets his head into some ancient artefact he's studying and it "de-ages" him to about three years old. Sam ends up (sort of) becoming his surrogate mom while they try and fix things and, naturally, hilarity ensues - with a good dose of very wonderful, sometimes touching, always fun, Sam moments. Tonnes of Sam/Daniel friendship. And Sam/Jack UST but no more than the series. Kate is a great character writer.

I realize this isn't completely Sam Carter centric, but I also wanted to send a little Samanda shout out to our girl Strix for her recent discourse over on the "Who Should Lead SG-1" thread.

I know lots of us have participated there, and everyone's had some really intelligent things to say, but I've been so impressed the last few times I've popped in there to read at the kind of stuff Strix has been bringing up, really raised the bar on that topic in such a level-headed, thoughtful and non reactionary way. She's got the respect of BOTH sides in the argument and I'm just really so proud that she's one of the family here (can we claim her? can we? huh? huh?) lol

I'd have sent her a PM to say this, but I think she deserves a standing ovation! So I'm sending it here instead. WAY TO FREAKIN' GO STRIX!

And I think struggling through the 'normal' relationship taught her that. And taught her that normal is not inherently good, just like abnormal isn't inherently bad. I'm very disappointed that the writers think this path is finished for her, because that leaves the audience not being able to see the growth that came from that relationship for her. But I do think the growth was there, and I think, as much as because of her unresolved feelings for Jack, that was the reason she called it off in the end.

Anyway, that's how I get lemonade out of the lemon that was Pete Shannahan.

i think sam's growth concerning this whole sam/pete and sam/jack thing is....

*sam got to experience a loving relationship. her last one was with jonas hanson; that turned out bad even after they broke up. with all of pete's 'issues', he still loved her and treated her nicely. (of course, ignoring the second half of chimera ).

*she got to see what a so-called normal life would be like, including the house and dog fairy tale. it's not that i think sam is turned off by this, i just think that she was pushing a square peg into a round hole with *who* she was trying to live with fairy tale with.

*sam found her way back to jack. i think the entire pete situation began and ended because of jack. he was under her skin and even though she tried to skake him... she ended up at the end *not* wanting to shake him off.

and folks, i feel *that's* the biggest growth for sam in this entire 'looking for a life via boyfriend' sitation.

so the next chapter in this saga; sam being happy and being happy *with* someone (jack). the house with the white picket fence and dog and two point five kids... it's just a lable. it's who you're living that life with that counts. i think that's what sam finally figured out at the end. the rest is just window dressing.

As much as I'm a huge Sam/Jack shipper, Matter of Time is my favorite episide. Ever.

I love Sam in this episode, so in-control of herself, so sure of herself. On anyone else trying to re-write physics as we know it in such a short period of time might seem like hubris, but on Sam it's just right. Sam just rocks every sock I've ever owned in this episode.

And I found the visuals stunning. I loved the smoke in the gateroom spiraling toward the gate, and loved Sam with the dog-tags going up to the gate. Loved it.

Can't say how much I love this episode.

i love 'matter of time' too. it was the first time that i saw the writers *really* showing off how smart sam was. it set a precedent from there on out. to me at least.

I watched 'Crusade' and even though Sam had only a few lines, I loved all of them. I especially loved how she called the unstable vortex the 'kawoosh'. That was great.

i liked that part too!

i'm going to rewatch this ep again (with plenty of fastforwarding, though <to get to the sam parts of course > )

anyone got screen caps for this part? (or any of sam's parts)

Yes Barrett would have been competition for Jack, but it would have been believable. I mean Pete was an okay guy. Aside from the stake-out issue, I really didn't have a problem with anything else he did. (Him stalking out and pouting was just being a guy) I just didn't buy him as someone who could hold Sam's interest for long. Barrett, I could have bought as someone Sam could have settled down with and been happy.

Notice though I said "could have". Like you, I don't think anything could ultimately stop S/J from getting together. It's fate.

well, then i'm *really* glad they didn't use barrett!

(so i guess pete was the best choice then (for my cause ), though i agree - totally - that i couldn't buy sam being interested in pete either. he just didn't seem her type)

BTW, 2010 tonight ... just have to say it's one of my all-time favorites. What a joy to watch the entire original ensemble really getting it right! The plot, the costumes (terrific fashions on the gals especially), and Amanda doing such marvelous work with her arc. Wow! Compare this one episode to the entire S9 and it still comes out ahead IMHO!

Great way to end the Monday night eppies.

does anyone think the end of 'moebius', where sam and jack saw the fish in his pond and jack responded 'close enough'... does anyone think the ptb will use this to actually, really, honestly tweak past events to use in their 'new and improved' show? and i mean *really*?

and this does relate to sam (sam/orlin from 'ascension? and sam/martouf from 'ripple effect') - recreating the truth?
