Sam Carter/Amanda Tapping Discussion/Appreciation

See, this is what I had expected to get on that SG quiz and I got Sam.
I really don't see myself as a Sam, so I'm really curious as to what I answered that put me into that category. The only thing I can think of is the question where I answered inventor because none of the other answers seemed appropriate for me. I like creating and building things, so inventor seemed close...actually I prefer demolishing things and taking things apart but that wasn't an option.

The truth of the matter is I'm more like Linea - The Destroyer of Worlds.

i got jonas and that's pretty much who i am. i *wanted* to be sam, but i'm more jonas. and that's not a bad guy to be, that's for sure.

i think secondly, i'm more daniel. and i'm talking exclusively about how i react/interact with ppl.

next is a tie between sam and jack. on any given day, i'm jaded and untrusting like jack. on any other given day, i'm curious and trusting and wanting to believe like sam.

but what i see about sam is she's a combination of jack and daniel. she's the seeker (daniel) and the aggressor (jack). she's really quite an interesting character.

but if i were asked to join sg1, and i had all the talents and qualifications that sam, jack, daniel, and teal'c had... who would i be on the team?

i think i'd be sam, the scientist and soldier. the dove and the hawk. the protector and aggressor.

isn't sam a great character!?

I tested out as Sam and then as a Guardian. I guess the two go together

Hi Jonas, I'm a Jonas too. It's interesting about your comment on Sam as a combination of Daniel and Jack and I think very early on in the show she actually said the same thing. Sure someone here knows the exact quote or interview! Now that I think about it, it may be on one of the DVDs.

That is a very interesting idea. I think Sam's thrill-seeking side definitely would play a part in her being attracted to more "dangerous" romantic partners. You don't find a great many thrill-seeking scientists in the world, either (thrill-seeking outside of their scientific area of interest, that is), so it's an interesting character choice to have enmeshed with her persona, too.

if jack wasn't part of the equation (and rda playing him sigh) - i'd still NOT want sam to end up with mckay. why? because he treated her like sh*t when they first met. and then after that. yes, he redeemed himself to sorts, but after the infirmary scene where sam had been electrocuted (can't remember ep name) and mckay showed some concern and talked to her about pianists (), he was right back to being a jerk in the next scene with sam.

Aw, come on, Lee has taken a taken a backseast to Sam for years......and considering his lack of assests, except for his brain, let's be nice, OK? We all know who is the brainiac.....and sadly, so does he. If you were Lee, wouldn't you get just a bit ticked every once in awhile? Now, be honest......

dr lee was rude to sam in paradise lost. then he was written as a bit of a comic relief... don't know why either.

LOL Aw, come on ... we all know that this Valentine's Day, it will be Felger knockin' on her door with a big box of chocolates and flowers in hand! Whatever happened to him? Wasn't he Dr. Lee's sidekick for a time? At first he annoyed me (like McKay) but, after re-watching his episodes, he started to grow on me. That's it, we need an episode with McKay AND Felger working with Sam in the lab. Talk about ad-libbing!

Personally while I think Amanda's Volvo is very cool, I'm a WRX girl through adn through these days.

For anyone interested the S60 is a 2.5l turbo, puts out about 147kw standard. So unless Amanda's had some work done to it, my WRX would absolutely spank it.

Of course I'm not completely smitten and in love with my car!!! Not at all.. who said I was?!

OT....I love the 'bug eye' WRX Subaru. I want to buy a 2006 model. What do you think of the new grill (look)? 230 HP ....on this hemisphere we use HP-horsepower

I’ve never been any good at scrabble because I always got impatient and bored, but this looks like great fun! Did I miss it, but looks like there are no Sam/Carter entries on those boards. You guys will just have to play more games and post some more pics. Stargate Scrabble – what a fun idea!

D'oh!!! I just knew somebody would spot that...

But it's harder than it looks, honest - you can spend all day thinking up great Sam-related words to put down, but then in the heat of battle, when the letters just don't fall right (and, erm, drink has been taken ), it all goes to pieces so fast any bystanders risk getting hit by the shrapnel.

but who really knows the reason. i'd like to think it's because they advertised this ep really well, and that ppl wanted to see sam in this episode (seeing her different and such).



here's a different and topic-changing post. if the ptb said they were only going to keep mitchell OR vala on the show now - which one would you pick to stay on the series?

for me, it's a toss. both characters have been given some of sam's attributes, so... i guess.... AH, i don't know! on any given day i'll change my mind.

if mitchell stays the same, let it be vala that remains.

if vala stays the same (as she was in those first few eps), let mitchell remain.

it's hard for me to erase what influence these characters have on MY FAVE character. there's the sam/mitchell shared command issue, and with vala, it's the sam/vala shared x-host and leading lady issue.

speaking as purely a sam fan, it doesn't feel like they added these characters to contribute and add to the existing characters, but to take over, so to speak, some of their places on the show.

so, who would you guys pick?

Mitchell. He at least has the potential to be written like an air force officer.

But if they are going to make him a n00b hothead they need to make clear Carter is in Charge. (This of course would be my choice)
But since they are intent on making him in charge then they need to make him a better air force officer that has his emotions in check and can make clear decisive and intelligent decisions. If they just make him normal without any superhero or supern00b qualities I would be just fine with his character. Cant say as how I see the other character in question even fitting into the Stargate Universe except as a foil like Maybourn or Kinsey.

None of this would matter if they just focused the attention on where it belongs.... the team and the stargate.

you might want to check out some of Carrie's fic. i think she archives her stuff on stargatefan

she sometimes does have a daniel slant to her fic, but she doesn't do ship

night terrors is good gen. there is a little bit of sam and jack at the end, but it's not the 'undying love' kind more the 'we're close' kind.

the weather outside is also good. it is ust-y but doesn't go beyond janet and her 'i wonder if they'll ever get a clue' kind of comment.

I have to second (or is that third) the recommendation for Gracie's "The Hidden One". I think it's archived on the Stargate Novel site

i think back to cam vs jonas. with jonas, well they kinda let him ease his way in. i do like how his and sam's relationship changed over the season. with jonas she was easier adn more mellow and almost big sistery

with sam and cam...yes, they do know each other but there are times when i think that sam sees cam as...her brother's annoying friend. who has his moments and is a lot of fun...but also is annoying as all get out and there are moments when she wants nothing more than to slap him upside the head and yell 'grow up!!'
