Originally posted by minigeekThanks for the transcripts, guys. I ended up working through the chat, so I couldn't drop in and say howdy. Looks and sounds like a good time was had by all!
As to the type of questions asked, I'm sure Tracy didn't mean that as any kind of personal dig to anyone here. Tracy is one of the sweetest people I've had the priveledge to chat with online (and 'meet' virtually in the IRC chatroom) via SAmanda. I hope folks don't jump on and take offense to her comment, because I know she didn't mean it as a negative jibe towards anyone who asked a question which was posted for Amanda.
We're all a little family here anyway, so lets just thwack eachother with a stuffed fish or... go blue jello wresting... or something (virtually! virtually!) whenever we feel like venting at one of the fam.
PS-> Did you guys see ATLANTIS last night? I loved the ep! Really thought it was great. One of the best eps of the Atlantis series so far imho. Beautifully written, well acted, directed, just... terrific stuff overall. And of course, McKay askingSpoiler:who took his favorite BLUE JELLO off the menu

Ok. This isn't really related to any of my other posts, so I'm gonna write it separately. I've been told that JM's blog is being used as an anti Amanda thread. Not anti Sam but anti Amanda and it's disgusting.
People are accusing Amanda of whining that screentime is being taken away, being arrogant, not giving people credit where credit's due, and generally complaining about the demands of motherhood.
Well, Amanda has the right to complain about and be all these things. The job she's done over the years has given her that right.
But she hasn't. Instead, Amanda has been gracious, kind, considerate and modest (bar the thai curry comment). She always gives the rest of the team credit, like in her latest interview, when she gushes about David Hewlett. She never complains about screen time being taken away from Sam, acknowledging it to be a natural part of shared character development on a show with a large ensemble cast. She is never arrogant and conceited, even calling herself a "Spaz". And although motherhood is demanding, which she acknowledges, she gushes with love at the blessing and reward for those demands, little Olivia.
It's such a shame that people are choosing not to see this, but it's a bigger shame that these things are being posted in a public arena.
Although Amanda seems outgoing, vibrant, dtrong and very much the extrovert, it is, to a degree, a delicate mask to her insecurities. She, like all of us, perhaps more, feels that need and desire to be loved, and she'll take these comments personally. Despite all the love and gushing here on Samanda, it's the minority of negative comments that she will latch onto, because of her character.
I just hope and pray that Amanda sees these people for what they are... Jealous. And that she, just once in a while, comes and sees the love and the joy that she spreads in the world, and that it quenches some of those insecurities.Yepp, it's blank down here.

Originally posted by SuzotchkaI've never had the privilege of meeting Amanda but I just have to say that Amanda is such a caring, considerate and wonderful person that I don't know how anyone could *not* like her. To hear that people bash other people like that really, really bothers me. Okay, it bothers me a lot and it hurts my heart (makes me sad). I hope Amanda keeps reading this list and sees just how many people love and appreciate her. She has a great spirit and I hope the negativity doesn't get to her or bring her down. I really hope she knows that her fans stand behind her. I wish there was something we could do to show her how much support she has.

Originally posted by minigeekI'd laugh my (____) off if any of those whiny-ranters ever did meet Amanda in person and were put on the spot about their "comments". Because I don't believe for a moment even one of them would have the GUTS to stand behind it when put face to face with the person they're so willing to hide behind their anonymity and disparage. Due to that fact, I don't think those folks are even worthy of an eyeroll. People like that are so insecure and so ineffective (personally), they deserve our pity, not our hate. I feel too sorry for them to get angry sometimes. For the sad, pathetic state their lives must be in that they'd resort to personally attacking an actor they've never met (and would be far too terrified to meet) in reality. Meh.

well i think they are wrong, but its not as if theyll admit to it
Amanda IS a great gal, I cant imagine her being this horrible person that theyre making her out to be, she was very kind and caring the last time i met her. But I know that shes quite the perfectionist and she will take these things to heart if she ever heard them, and that makes me sad- Simon

Originally posted by minigeekI don't think so. Amanda does feel things deeply, and does care a great deal, but she's also a strong person and she's intelligent and articulate. She can come by here and read the discussion (and I believe she does) just as easily as she might read Joe's blog comments, if she does that at all, and I'm positive she can see the difference and that she realizes that there are some whacked-out, weirdos in cyberland who you really just cannot take seriously. It's always difficult to read hateful or negative remarks about ourselves, regardless if we're famous or not, but I think Amanda's well equipped to tell the idiots from the realists out here, too. Besides, there's enough of US out here that all she'd need to do is pop her head into this thread to see where the truth is, ultimately.Yepp, it's blank down here.

Honestly, if one's speaking of support on Joe's blog, one may support Amanda there, and call the bashers on their behavior - characters are fair game, but real people should be respected - but doing so won't stop it, and with the anonymous option that the blog affords, there's no number of people who can't be drowned out by just one person with time on their hands posting as 'anonymous.'
Joe's blog is an arena whose content and contention is watched / read by at least one PTB, and the comments-posters there seem to keep it firmly in mind that their audience contains at least one of the people who makes actual decisions of some kind for Stargate. And so, they use it as their soap box from which to bend the ear of power. Whether that bending nets them anything but tired typing fingers is debatable: Joe seems to have very little respect for comment posters who are not laudatory of the show in general, Claudia Black in particular, and Ben Browder in especial. Unless he's changed markedly, even with repeated prompting, Joe won't tell anyone subjecting Amanda to calumny to cut it out, or cease and desist, or even just to tone it down, which may mean he skims right on past the 'oh here we go again slagging Amanda' comments. :raises eyebrows:
I know it causes both concern and pain to see Amanda treated like that in an arena of public... er... discourse, and even more concern and pain to think of her reading the same thing and thinking that calumny, but, honestly, there's no way to stop it, and attempts to call the perps on it, or balance it with an opposing viewpoint will be only partially successful, on only some occasions, simply because the Anonymous option exists, and, despite anonymity, egos are involved, and ego drives people in ways, and to depths, that reason never can or will.
Honestly, if one wants to show Amanda one's support, wait until 20 February, when Stargate production resumes, and send a letter of support and approbation to her care of Bridge. That'll have the effect of getting the desired words a lot more directly to her, and making a nice showing of fan mail for her where some of the PTB may well hear of it: electronic blog entries being far more ignorable than real paper....a very cranky blog:http://simhavaktra.blogspot.com/
