Welcome to GateWorld Forum! If this is your first visit, we hope you'll sign up and join our Stargate community. If you have questions, start with the FAQ. We've been going strong since 2004, are we are glad you are here.
No!! I can manage Wales in October as well as november. If you want to join us before GABIT you are welcome, but it will be sad to wave you off at the airport at the start of the weekend!
Also 1speed and Strix seem to have outvoted me on the activities choice and we are doing Celtic Remains.
(Now I'm sure I could counjour up a joke from that line involving 1speed, but as I am mountain biking with him tomorrow I better keep my trap shut lest he forces me off the track!)
I've been kicked out of GW before I could answer you last night Coley. I understand that with GABIT being in November you're all going to Wales before the weekend in London. As it is, I'm working on the week as well as the weekend. Sad, but I'd certainly not be able to join you. Sadder because Celtic Remains make the geek rise in me and I was all excited by the project. Maybe you're going to thank my work schedule Coley, let me wander in ruins and the metamorphosis is spectacular : geekdom and Geek!Dom at its finest.
Anybody looking for a job? I'll have a "voix" position open in about 5 seconds.
For those interested by the job, let me explain what you'll have to do.
First, expect an angry and petulant spaz running to you, screaming and shouting because she got kicked out of the cool place by the morons who run said place. No, not morons but MORONS. Let me say that the spaz can shout. My ears are still ringing.
Second, do not fear the email of doom. The spaz is well known for losing her emails thanks of too much drooling over a new laptop.
Last, write a dictionnary when the spaz is speaking to the other fine specimen known as the AD. I wonder if those two actually speak English or a new variation of Asgard language. I'm trying hard to decipher but still wondering.
Anyone interested ? No ? Sure ?
Now spaz, you know you want ME as your "voix"
I'm the one with the cool weapons.

1speed and myself are quite happy to do wales in October as well as we originally planned Lys. CG may still come over, and though her daughter and family are unsure at the mo they may too!
I wouldn't reneig on an invitation. You are welcome to come over even if it is just me and you.
Tony will be pleased there is yet another lady into stone circles etc. I am too, but just not quite as much as Tone.
He should be here any min. We're off to West Yorkshire - Limestone country!
not in as many words, but yeah, to the 'gen' folks i'm way too shippy because i do have sam and jack as friends in my fic. but to the shippers, well since they just are friends most of the time, it's not shippy enough
Jack and sam as friends is great and that's why I love your fics Sky. But I'm very cautious about fics because of how people see the relationship between them. Some are going to label fics shippy when it's no more than what we get on the show which is fine with me and some are going to say "maybe a little Sam/Jack" and start their story with a passionate kiss in the gateroom. And I'm exagerating only a little. That's why I tend to avoid the Sam/Jack fics either labelled shippy or friendshippy. You just can't know where you're going when you're one of those 'gen' folks.
Hopefully, there are writers like you Sky and I don't fear reading your fics. I know what you're caling ship is what I call ship and same goes for friendship.
And more than that, I love your insight on the characters.
So you know that I couldn't resist teasing spaz. and your fic was the perfect excuse to do it.

Oh ! Thanks Coley !
"Bows before our great RA"
Have a great time this weekend !
Well, I just watched Collateral Damage and I didn't mind it. Some nice Sam/Cam stuff (friendship of course. Unless you're into Sam/Cam ship - then it was a goldmine )
It felt for the first time this season that I was watching SG1 of old
Seems like I am the only one here, but I actually enjoyed tonight's episode, I thought it was pretty good.
It probably helped that I didn't have any expectations at all, knowing that it would be an episode about
Spoiler:
Mitchell.
I liked that there were hardly any of those *cringeworthy* one-liners, but rather a serious Mitchell, and that we got to see some of his backstory. I actually like the Mitchell I saw today.
Of course, I didn't like that Sam, Daniel, and Teal'c didn't get a lot to say, but that was to be expected (or at least I expected it) in an ep centering on one character.
What does concern me though is the fact that in two eps in a row all Sam got to do was to "babysit" (as someone said so well last week). Seeing Sam care about and taking care of others is fine with me, and it was actually time that they showed the team care about "the new guy". But if that's all she gets to do from now on, I will have a serious problem.
Just MHO! Looking forward to next week!
"We don't know what to do with Sam Carter" ... completely believable after seeing these past two weeks of eppies. Handwriting on the wall?! I hope not, Dani. But your spoiler above and concerns about Sam's current "role" at SGC has me just as worried. Sure, we got some more revelations about Mitchell ... but there is still something not clicking for me. And homing in on the new characters may be sacrificing the integrity of the old!
Spoiler:
Yes, it was good to see the team be supportive of their new teammate but, once again, Sam is reduced to a glorified babysitter, taking care of "the little boys" in her life! She is so much more than that!
Sorry to be coming in negative again but at least you probably expect it from me so you can skip on by this post. I really am trying - wasn't even goign to watch this one but I did and once again was disappointed. I felt that what we learned about Mitchell was insignificant. I agree with someone who asked if we got to see
Spoiler:
how he knew SG1 before he got to the SGC
but alas again that takes backseat to stuff I really don't care about, plus if we have to have the obligatory
Spoiler:
kissing
scenes in every freakin' ep then this show and the writers really are worse off than I thought (
Spoiler:
my $ is on a scene in RE with Carter kissing Marty
as that obligaotry scene for next week.
I would rather have seen scenes of the team working together as opposed to standing around looking angsty. I want to see the team bond doing team stuff - I really have no investment in Mitchell and after 12 eps can honestly say that I probably never will so his relationship with
Spoiler:
his father
does not interest me in the slightest. I want to see his realtionship with the team working together and with Carter, Daniel and Teal'c with something substantial and significant to contribute.
Show me why this guy even deserves to be on SG1, show me why these three stellar people would come back from other pursuits to work with this yahoo, funny-man - so far none, absolutely none, of that, IMO, after 12 episodes. And I am sorry but I thought BB was wooden in FS and that has not changed. To me he always seems to be looking down or looking into space staring at nothing even when he is talking and his one-liners, again I felt there were too many especially that stupid one that fell flat in the brefing room about hoping
Spoiler:
there would be dancing
too many shades of Jack. I must say I did not think I had very high expectations for the show anymore but I am consistently let down. I just have to keep lowering the bar I guess.
This was a 1 on my scale and likely the most boring, slow-paced, inconsequential episode in a verrry long time (Wormhle Extreme ranks up there as does 4hm2 and this just sits in that pack like thick sap running down the maple trees in winter). For me the best part of the show was the clip for next week and that didn't really have any spoilers in it. I read where someone else said they find themselves sitting and feeling guilty as they watch the show because they make fun of it while it is in progress and that is where I am right now - so much of it is jut not worth my time. I admit I did FF through a large portion of it since it was so plodding and so boring and so predictable. Even on FF I could tell what was happening and that is too bad for a show that once grabbed me and held me for one hour straight. I would rush home to watch if I could or tape it and watch as soon as I could. Now I just tape it and when I get to it I put it on and then roam around the house or FF. Sad and depressing for me.
Sorry again to be negative but just venting a little more. Soon, I hope even this will stop once I cut that cord altogether. The cord is hanging by a thread since I don't watch the whole show or stay in the room or anything so it shouldn't be long before it splits altogether. Someone said, in response to one of my posts in another thread that they think I am in the "anger" stage of this loss and that is probably true but episodes like this don't make me angry they just make me kind of sad (it is only a TV show afterall) but I do miss the real SG1 that I spent so much time getting invested in and I do, inded, missthe Stargate almost as much as I miss Carter, Daniel and Teal'c, and the well-written, intelligent drama that was Stargate SG1.
bink, you're always welcomed here because you do have strong feelings about the integrity of the show and have been a loyal Sam and SG1 fan for so long. The points above are valid. Our heroes stood around with nothing much to do while new guy got his prime time. I have nothing against BB and had only seen FS once or twice but it's interesting that what you're saying about his acting style resonates with me. I have wanted to be drawn in by the character of Cam, but the character seems wooden, not making eye contact at times, and I don't feel connected. "It's all in the eyes" for me. And, sadly, I'm not getting the message.
Also, the overuse of O'Neillisms/glib one-liners has put me off. Writers' fault, not actor's. Cam should not be written as an O'Neill clone. Let him stand on his own two feet and backstory.
And the need to insert a sexual dalliance for the new character? What did this achieve? Reminds me of that poorly written script for Teal'c in Affinity?! Ah, some male fantasies just don't go away.
Spoiler:
Last night's plot was so weak ... and left as many questions as answers. So just how did the jealous ex-hubby overpower Cam? Was he hiding in the house already? And why would he brutally beat his wife, whom he professed to love, rather than her escort for the night? And how did he do all this memory-shifting on the floor of her house without his lab equipment and monitors? I don't know ... sadly, another episode down the tubes for me. I don't even want to see S9 as reruns anymore. So you're not alone.
I just read somewhere that an actor's delivery often evolves from the chemistry/connection/familiarity among the ensemble cast. When you already have bonded or known or worked with someone, it adds to your ability to "make it real" onscreen/onstage. It's an intriguing concept. You could see that chemistry as the seasons went on for RDA, AT, MS, and CJ. It was beautiful and fun to watch. Vala seems to have potential for this kind of dynamic but I have yet to see Cam light up the screen with it.
Again, this is MHO and I wish I could feel more enthusiastic for S9. As I've said several times before, I want to care again about "the team". Give me a reason to care, please. Contrast the writing for Stargate and BSG these past couple weeks! I can't take my eyes off the screen with all that's happening to the other series' fleshed-out and complex characters. Intelligent twists and turns all bring me to the edge of my seat and wanting more. 'Nuff said.

Right, I'm gonna write a little babbling post here, in reference to a million and one posts by different people, so I hope you can keep track.
My first comment it aimed at Myrth. That's another excellent wallpaper there. What episode is that black coat get up from? That's gorgeous and I don't remember it.
Secondly, I'd like to make a comment about that TV Guide card. She's "single" ???? What about..... What about..... I think she's just crushed all our shippy hearts there.
Next, I'd like to give my thanks to all those of you who wrote those really supportive and lovely comments. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by people like you, and it's just such testimony to Amanda's kindness, generousity and general brilliance, that such lovely, caring and wonderful people come together here as her fans. I wasn't asking for sympathy in that post, I was just trying to explain why I admire and respect Amanda so much for her attitude to life and how she just pulls through every time.
Lastly, I think a comment about Cam Mitchell is in order. I have no problems with the character or the acting. I like the one liners, but you can just *feel* it's the work of the writers, and not just the character. I would say my one problem is that they have made Cam be too "Jack" like. I can understand this, because Jack worked well in the group dynamic, and so they thought that humour needed to be replaced. Actually, I would have said that Daniel has evolved to a place where he can use that humour, and they could have brought in a completely different character. I get this feeling that they are trying too hard to replace Jack. Jack had reasons for his sarcasm and snarkyness, all the stuff with his son, which was brought in at the very beginning. If Cam's got a reason, we needed to know straight away. As it is, he's just coming across as a lame replica.

These are two good, solid Samfics. I think Majorsal will like Other Eyes (If I'm remembering correctly a comment that MS made months and months ago about Grace and The Cloud).
Shades of Grey: The Aftermath is a great Samfic where Sam gets to get to be the heroically strong, smart, whumped hero that only the guys usually get to be.
Also, if you haven't read it, Growing Pains by iamdragonrider is a lot of fun (well written and with great characterizations of all 4 of the original team members).
Thanks so much, Astro! Keep those cards and letters coming! We need these well written fics to override some of the scripts we're enduring!
Remember: "writing well is the best revenge"! So fellow Samandan scribes, take up your pens and go to it! (Yes, yes, I'm still working on my latest story!)
Astro, you're still our Keeper of the Flame! Please continue stopping by - good golly woman - Samanda needs you and we miss you a lot!!!

Chopin, honey, just realised that we wrote practically the same thing about Cam Mitchell. Glad I'm not alone.
As for writing; I'm doing a smutty S/J fic, followed by a smutty S errrr J fic (the first is Sam/Jack, the second is Sam/Jan) for AD, and then I'm game.
In Avalon we got flashback as to how they knew Mitchell. Basically he was the leader of the X-302's in Antartica - he was shot down and injured - they made it their mission to go and visit him etc... Which actually considering the characters makes sense.
As for the new episode; I think it's a question of whether you want to know more about Mitchell or not if you like it. My suggestion is, since he isn't going away, get to know him away from his quips.
Although his endless quips do make a sick sort of sense. I think in the end he is just a very nervous kinda guy and he isn't sure where he is fitting in. Hopefully that'll change.
Hopefully we'll also get to see more of Sam as well - although after what I have read about her in Ripple Effect, I think purely on a time management level they cut down some of Amanda's parts in previous episodes to get it filmed.
So, how does this sound like prime leadership material? Maybe the guy still has issues over his collateral-damage pilot days?! Ya think? Yet Sam has to stand down as leader for him!
