1speed4Sam and Coley's reply in red:

OK. I'm sure the Royal Accountant will have something suitably garish tucked away in her wardrobe.

Now what have I told you about that fantasy life of yours!! I do blue and black - and sometimes dark green!! Hope springs eternal eh!!

Ooh, thanks for reminding me, Jester - I'd forgotten all about the leopard-skin restraints off the good ol' Stargate Viewing Settee (TM). They might just come in handy...

Now they came as an extra and I didn't get chance to choose the design!! Seemed to put a smile on your face though (or was that due to the sight of Amanda first coming into view) They'll be coming into play again when we watch Chimera. I have some ammonia ready too!!
Methinks that the Royal Court is a bit out of control today, what with all the excitement of attending the Queen's second event in London in November.

Somehow, the Royal Accountant's choice of colours for her wardrobe also may forewarn you, 1speed, of her intent (when dealing with a somewhat high-spirited one-speeder who's just graduated to multi-speed): Coley wears "black and blue and sometimes dark green" ... this seems to match the bruises encountered from mountain biking and climbing. So, dear 1speed, I would be quite careful of this woman. I think the Royal Pharmacist may prove a more suitable match as she, at least, can offer drugs if she hurts you!!

Of course, we now know that the Queen's Personal Bodyguard, Strix, will be in attendance at the GABIT gala ... so not to fear, 1speed! She will protect you from the swarming hordes of women who will be throwing themselves at your feet. Courage, my brave man, courage! It's a nasty job, but someone's got to do it! (Think Bond, James Bond.)

Oh how the Jester wishes she could be with you!

I think Amanda has said it herself, that she could not have accomplished what she did in terms of directing Resurrection were it not for all the help she recieved from the cast and crew. I believe it was a wonderful learning experience for her and to me it was obvious that they were all behind her 100%. The fact that she was nominated her first time directing just proves that she has a very good eye and keen ability that would only get better with more experience under her belt. I can somewhat understand why she wasn't given an opportunity to direct in season eight. With RDA's onscreen time even less, Amanda did have to be on camera a great deal of the time and their shooting schedules were very hectic. However, it's obvious in season nine that this is not the same issue, so hopefully she will be given the chance to direct at least one or two episodes on SG-1 or Atlantis in season 10. I will be highly disppointed if they lessen Sam's role on the show and still do not offer Amanda a chance to direct again.

I too would think they were happy for AT and her nomination, at least PDL and Martin Woold strike me as people who would be like that. And she does say that she received alot of support from the crew.

The only info we have at this time is that AT said in this interview that they are reluctant to let her direct in season 10 because then she would have to be reduced in several episodes including the one she is directing. So, two questions arise for me. First, is this an indication that they are not planning a a reduced role for Sam in SG-1. No one has actually said this would happen. AT wonders about it but she honestly does not know. And second, she said that she was allowed to direct in season 7 wherein she did not have a reduced role in other episodes or in the one she was in. Here's a difference I just thought of though. Maybe because they are filming both SG-1 and Atlantis now, the production scheduling nightmares are probably much greater than when just season 7 was being produced.

IMO, given the quality of SG-1 and even Atlantis this season, I think they are under alot of strain to produce so many shows. This strain is showing, for me, in the less than stellar writing for both shows, and the sometimes odd scenes that are being filmed that don't seem quite right. They are trying to produce too much, too fast, with not enough help. As a result, they may not have their act together enough and so feel leary of letting AT direct. Of course, I really have no clue!

        Happy belated birthday, minigeek.

And to all those going to these conventions---I'm glad for you, and know you will report back to us poor souls who cannot go!!! Glad to see so many going!!

1speed ! Forget the Chimera DVD. It's not healthy for you. As the Royal Pharmacist of Samanda I recommend you put the disk in a closet and forget it until the good RA brings you smelling salts and revises her CPR skills.
Good Lord, woman ... you want the Royal Accountant beating on 1speed's chest?!! I think it's Sam's chest that we have to worry about!!!

Sooner or later, the man must see Chimera. Personally, I think the bloke can handle it! Er ... well, not really handle it, but contain himself whilst watching Chimera. Besides, the clever RA can always place him in restraints again. She has such a delightful living room decour: three multi-speed cycles, one log-burning stove, and a restraint settee for visiting friends.

I think home schooling is a very good idea in some situations. If, like in your case, the child has had the special care and attention to help them get to a higher level than most their age, then the school system would hold them back.

In Germany there is the chance to skip years, so that if you are above the normal intelligence level, you can go on to a higher class with children older than you.

In Britain home schooling is illegal, but, having said that, we start at, or before, the age of five. I am the youngest in my year group, having an August birthday, so had only just turned five when I started in year 1. The others in my class would have been in reception classes until that point, learning to read and write.
Sorry, but you're wrong. In Scotland, which is part of Britain, it is perfectly legal to have home schooling. You can read about it here if you are interested.

Thanks, Dips. Someone corrected me on that. I thought I read somewhere that it was illegal. Obviously not.

As for Chopingal.... I love the "and I make a mean souffle" badge. I think they may have to be done and distributed.

It's okay Strix, after your first few hours with our Lancastrian friends, Coley and 1speed, you will be abbreviating your words and using quaint new terms too. In fact, you will be taking ablutions rather than going to the bathroom. Get my drift here?! It's a whole different galaxy, believe me.

I've read of the Red Kite, a magnificent hawk/owl which was almost wiped out in Wales and has now made a comeback. But being a twitcher?! I thought it was a bit callous on Coley's part until I realized that she was not talking about epilepsy, but birding instead.

Oh, how I wish I was part of this get-together!

When I first moved here, noone could understand a word I was saying, not just because of the accent, but the dialect too... words like mardy and cob.

and yes like SunKrux said we have rules here that prevent children to enter school if they are not 5yrs of age by the first week of September.

This is one of the reasons I am homeschooling my daughter, because she didn't turn five until December 7th of this year and I didn't want to have her wait until she was 6 to go to Kindergarten. The sad thing is they don't seem to take into consideration that some children are actually quite mature for their age and they end up holding the child back for no real reason.

It's fine though. They are actually doing my daughter a service by preventing her to attend public school. It's given her the time to excel at new things that she would never have been given the opportunity to do while at public school. So while other children are sitting in a room with twenty other Kindergarteners, screaming and yelling, while their teacher tries to calm them down long enough to run through the ABC's and 123's, my daughter can already read, knows how to add and subtract, has already learned basic swimming strokes in her swimming class, is learning about Picasso and Monet in her art classes, and starts piano lessons in a few weeks. I just thank the lord that I'm lucky enough to live in a state that allows me to teach my daughter as I see fit without any government intervention.

I'd like to apologize for my ranting. I know this is totally off-topic, but the American school system is a very sore subject for me. I've been burned by our local school systems, which are supposed to be exemplary, with both of my children. I know there are some very fine teachers out there and there are people who genuinely care, but I also know there are many children who are lost between the cracks of our current school systems which should not be the case in a country like I live in.

Hopefully, Amanda has better luck in Canada with Olivia than I have had here.

                    Kat
I think you are doing wonderful to be homeschooling, Kat. Of course, maybe I am biased . I didn't realise though that where you live there is no intervention from the government. Here in Aus we most definitely are under the thumb of the Board of Studies (government), and up until age 15 have to have regular inspections, and parents have to provide full documentation of how they intend to follow the curriculum (even if it isn't followed). Fortunately I am now definitely old enough to be 'out of their hands'. It is interesting to hear how different countries handle the situation of homeschooling.
Of course, homeschooling during the early years of a child's life is very different to highschool years. During highschool I found I became a lot more self-disciplined about learning (mostly because I wanted to) and found ways of learning that didn't always involve a highly structured curriculum.
So I think the freedom in homeschooling is to be able to learn, as widely as you like, in varied subjects, without having to be narrowed down in any way. And also to be able to pick up a subject and flow with it. I think one of the biggest problems in school is kids are always being sent around to different classes, switching from one subject to the next, and never get to work on one particular subject for a good chunk of time, in depth. When I find a subject that I currently really like, I want to explore it to its limits, and then move onto the next. I find this is a very rewarding way to learn.
However, now I'm 18, and I'm fretting about 'what to do next'.

directors arent hired on thier looks, they're hired on thier ability. this, other than the rampant 'boys club syndrome' that runs amuk in the entertainment industry, puts AT on more of a level playing field

lets just hope that coop & co will recognize that maybe it's time to give AT a little tit for tat and help her out a bit, letting her direct and get some more credits under her belt
If it is at all possible for Amanda to look 'too old' 'too worn' 'too fat' or 'too pregnant'.
Still, I think she'd really like to do more directing, and if so, good for her.

When she walked up and down the aisle at GABIT during her Q&A sessions, you would never have thought she just had a baby! You're right, deepspace, Amanda looks terrific!

I just read your post in my head, and couldn't quite understand the problem. I went downstairs and asked one of my night owl housemates, who looked at me blankly "I assume the first word's crystal....."

I would be mortified if Amanda didn't understand me. I suppose I'm lucky that I have learnt to speak RP (Queen's English). I was taught different accents by my phonetics tutor. I can currently do Southern (RP), Liverpudlian, northern Irish.... as well as my two "normal" accents.
