A word of advice to our plane-hopping con goers, especially for GABIT2 ...

You may want to wait until mid-summer/early fall to book your plane tickets for London. I had a problem when I booked super early for the first GABIT. Yes, the "airline special" was quite a good offer but, life being what it is, Amanda had to cancel and reschedule for that event and I was left with three airline tickets that were non-refundable and non-redeemable for another flight. My daughter and I had the transportation but no event to fly to!! Luckily, she had friends in Kent and we managed to find a delightful cottage in the English countryside and turn our lemons into lemonade!

November is a long way off. Be glad you booked the event; be careful of your airline's ticket policy when you book your flight!

Wish I could be a part of the "second coming" but am still paying off the first! It's terrific that so many Samandans are going and I'll be there with you in spirit if nothing else. You will truly enjoy Amanda's warmth and congeniality and also meeting so many wonderful Sam fans! The GABIT4 are always around to make you feel welcomed too. They do live up to their mission: get Amanda back in town and keep the event personalized and special! You'll have a blast! And our Samandan seniors, Coley, 1speed, and Forever Sg1 will be there to show you the ropes. In 1speed's case, I hope he doesn't tie Lys up!! Oops, that's if she can actually teleport herself to London without her boss knowing she's gone!

See, that's where I have questions, because the ratings were pretty steady even when RDA didn't play a large role last year. It was quite clear that S7 and S8 were Jack-lite, yet the ratings were still pretty good. They didn't dip anymore significantly than any other cable show - even BSG.

That's a hard thing for me, as a team fan, to swallow. I don't know about Farscape, but I've always viewed SG-1 as a sort of ensemble cast, with four core cast members keeping the show afloat. While RDA is a big name, and his presence was crucial to the continuation of the series after S5, they never really wrote it as The Jack Show, or anything like that - and the fans have never really received it that way either.

I agree. Sure RDA was the *name* at the beginning and Jack was the team leader--but the show is SG1, not SG O'Neill. They were all crucial to the success of the missions. I don't have a problem with them bringing in BB, just the *way* they did it. I object to him being trumpeted as the "new lead" when really without RDA, IMHO it becomes even more obviously an ensemble show. I see BB as more of a "cult" name, perhaps helpful, but not something needed to "save" the show.

I agree. Sure RDA was the *name* at the beginning and Jack was the team leader--but the show is SG1, not SG O'Neill. They were all crucial to the success of the missions. I don't have a problem with them bringing in BB, just the *way* they did it. I object to him being trumpeted as the "new lead" when really without RDA, IMHO it becomes even more obviously an ensemble show. I see BB as more of a "cult" name, perhaps helpful, but not something needed to "save" the show.

Yeah. You gotta point. RDA leaving was the perfect opportunity to introduce a true ensemble listing.

ON the AT Directing issue - they have been making excuses (see her interview) not to let her direct. Now do you think that may be because Amanda got nominated for an award for her first direct ever - just how many male noses did that put out of joint eh. They won't let that happen again I can tell you - how - by not letting her direct. The male ego is a very sad thing

I get the sense that she's really popular with the crew. I remember reading that Barbara Stanwyck was always very popular with the crew, in part because she really recognized what an important contribution they made and also she was very down to earth. I bet AT is the same way.

Obviously, I don't know AT personally, but from what I've seen of her and read about her, I really feel this is true. She is hard working, but a team player and she gives credit where credit's due. She's never even tried to make out the Resurrection was her deal, she always acknowledges that it was a joint effort from all the crew. She seems such a kind, friendly and fun person, that I can't see how any of the crew *could* dislike her.

i thikn it could also have something to do with depending so much on her to carry the show. even if they 'don't know what to do with her', they seemed to have a hard time writing an eps that was sam lite the last time she directed. even if they can't write something around sam, tehy know they can depend on her to give 120% so they use her that way...which is good. but it also means that they're depending on her so much to 'be there' that they might be hampering her future a bit.

who knows, maybe if they have vala to deal with they can write a sam-lite eps and let her direct, or let her direct an atlantis eps, finally take a chance to pay her back for all she's done over the years

Good points. Maybe that's *part* of what felt off about the first few episodes (not getting into the farcical nature of them--and not *good* farce) Sam wasn't there to be the voice of reason & science.

Okay I have started this response several times to address a number of posts lately. However, I decided against the page long gut reaction response in lieu of this one…

I think AT/Sam should be leading SG-1! It keeps with the storyline that has been developing since episode one of the TV series. As an avid fan for 8 seasons I ask how do you go against/ or forget the development of the series and not expect a negative reaction! New viewers may not have the history of the show to understand each thread in the fabric that was developed in creating this long time running series.

I think when RDA actor/Executive Producer (whom I adore) decided to cut back on his time with the series. The three remaining stars (they each developed their own fan base while on the show) really picked up the slack (for lack of a better word). Each player RDA, AT, MS, and CJ all were the star of the series. Jack’s appearances were always great, just like MS appearance in S6 when he was a guest. All this to say … I am a big fan of AT and RDA. I am also a big fan of the TEAM (which is missing this year because of the changes.) I think it was always ensemble casts that were the stars of the show. Each character (Jack, Sam, Daniel and Teal'c) brought something unique and exciting to the show. The way all four of them played off one another was fun to watch. I think when it was just Sam, Daniel and Teal'c it was still a great chemistry too, especially when we would see Jack or they would mention him. It helped me prepare for his departure from the series (although I still miss him). I am still hoping that great team chemistry will make a reappearance sometime in the near future, because it has been non existence so far. I would also like to see AT step back into the foreground. I’m not saying all Sam all the time. But she is back from ML and I think they should use her abilities and giver her something to do!!

I was told recently by someone (in RL) that I say things tha sound like I'm sucking up to people. Well, if that sounds like I'm trying to suck up to you, I'm sorry. I'm not, it's just the way I write. I'm not sure how to change that aspect of myself yet. But right now, I just want you to know that I mean what I say.

Yes I agree when RDA left it was even more ensemble cast. So it seemed strange to say someone known to Farscape fans would be the new lead. I can honestly say that I didn't know who BB was until someone introduced me to Farscape. Even then I didn't know his name until he joined Stargate SG-1. "Oh yeah he's the guy from Farscape" His name alone I didn't recoginze. I have a number of friends and Family that are avid TV viewers and none of them know who BB is. I have nothing against BB. From his interview he seems like a nice family man. He should fit right in with the cast. I still see it as an ensemble cast!
