Mini- I wouldn't worry too much about being alone at Gabit. Everyone is extremely nice and helpful. When I first arrived at the hotel, I didn't know anyone. I had planned on meeting a few people from Samanda and the GW Gabit thread, but I wasn't sure where and when we were to meet so I just hung out in the lobby. After walking around for about an hour and checking things out, I introduced myself to a group of women(about a dozen) who were chatting in the hotel lobby and they all welcomed me to the group immediately. They were from differents parts of the world: Italy, Germany, Scotland, Canada, the U.S, even as far away as Australia. Many were new to the whole con thing just like me, but several seemed to be old pros and had met Amanda several times already. It was fun listening to their stories about other cons. Being a con newbie myself, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but the nice thing about Gabit was the fact that everyone who attended wore an orange pass around their neck so we could identify each other quite easily and I knew immediately that the personal I was chatting with shared the same interest in Sam/Amanda as I did. I really didn't have to fear that the person I was chatting with would dislike Sam or Amanda, because I didn't think many people would willingly shell out the money to spend the weekend with Amanda if they really didn't like her.
The people I met from Gateworld/Samanda were just as nice as I had expected, if not more so, and I was extremely lucky in that I was seated next to Kliggin at the Q&A so I didn't have to feel as if I was seated next to a complete stranger. However, I've always felt that noone is a stranger for long if you are willing to just say Hi. There was a nice young couple from Germany on the other side of me who I got the opportunity to chat with a bit during the Q&A intermissions. Occassionally you meet a few people who are a bit annoying (Kliggin can attest to this for me...LOL) but overall I can't really think of anything negative to say about the con. The G4 and the attendants were all very helpful and truly seemed to try to make the event enjoyable for everyone involved. Even when we had to stand in line for certain events like photos and autographs it wasn't bad. People chatted, sang songs, and occassionally the attendants passed out candy to everyone. It felt like a great big party to me. The time spent with Amanda just made the party that much more enjoyable.
For those of you who have registered to go to Gabit 2, please check out the Gabit thread in the fandom section. They've already started a attendees list and a countdown for Gabit 2. It will also give you a chance to meet others who will be attending the con who do not frequent this thread ( though I'm sure many of them do lurk )
