So.... GUP (Grace Under Pressure) is on tonight in the great Canadian white north! For those with "The Movie Network" channel, that is. I for one am kinda looking forward to finding out just what kind of "Carter" our dear McKay dreams up!

ya know-i am torn between wanting a blow by blow of the episode and ignoring it entirely. quite a change from a few short years ago when I would be looking for any all clues of the show these guys put out-
Franklin said, "They that can give up essential liberty for a little safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Best thing about this episode? AT and DH did some very fine acting. Classic AT/SamCarter stuff, if you love all her little facial expressions and you love the classic stuff AT does to make Sam--Sam, you'll enjoy that all unto itself.
Now...
Spoiler:
Basically it was exactly what the spoilers entailed (though I won't post a total he said/she said).
Essentially, Rodney and his pilot crash a jumper into the ocean near Atlantis and the pilot sacrifices himself to save Rodney. The front end of the jumper ends up cracking under over 1300 feet of pressure so Rodney is trapped in the rear.
It takes about half the episode of him concussed (and alternately oxygen deprived and/or mildly hysterical) before he "meets" Carter.
At first, Carter is very much herself. She tells him he hallucinated her because he needed someone smarter than he is, and she was the only person he could think of. Naturally, he argues with her and says the only reason he would have hallucinated her was because he wanted a "final romp" (sic).
She reminds him that he's arguing with himself (vis a vis the fact that she is his hallucination) and ... the essential episode ensues.
Atlantis is trying to figure out a way to triangulate where the Jumper is in the ocean, and figure out how to get to them and get them out (since they lost contact after the front end of the cockpit imploded).
Rodney meanwhile is trying to stay alive and figure out how to stop his descent (20 feet per minute) and also to figure out how to raise the temperature and keep his "distress beacon" alive for more than the 3 HOURS the instruments are telling him he has left.
Carter tells him he should conserve his power and not attempt to waste it; stay alive long enough to give his team a chance to save him. She plays the part of his consciousness that is able to trust in people (which he isn't able to do). She tries to convince him that there's a whole lot of very brilliant minds working to rescue him and he needs to stay alive long enough for them to get to him and not try any harebrained ideas.
He argues with her (naturally), they have a little tete-a-tete; Carter finally says something to the effect of: "The only reason you and I never ended up in a relationship is that you're petty, arrogant and bad with people." - He says: "But you DID find me attractive...", she tries to change the subject (*cough*cough*)
Shippers of other bents for Sam... there was a LOT of Sam/McKay innuendo. And yes.... the kissing scene. Which ultimately turned into her trying to distract him (Lt. Colonel Siren) from attempting his harebrained idea of using 2/3 of his leftover power up so that he can try the PuddleJumper's propulsion systems under water (hoping to get closer to the surface).
Her tactic (vis-a-vis a skimpy bathing suit and a makeout scene - "You're a hallucination, you don't need to share body heat" - "No, but that doesn't mean I can't get YOU hot..." *snog snog snog*) doesn't work and he tries his crazy plan anyway, Sam begs him not to, he doesn't listen, and (gasp) it fails, like she said it would. So he's left with almost no power.
Oh, did I mention that meantime the Puddle Jumper has hit the bottom of the ocean and has been taking on water through microfissures in the hull? Well, they're about up to their waists at this point and McKay is freezing to death.
Earlier, Sam told McKay he should try and increase the pressure within the PJ to a level that would slow the leak considerably, so they did that. It worked.
Looks like McKay's subconscious mind was using his Sam hallucination throughout the episode as a means to deliver every good and right idea he had. Interestingly. Though he argues with her about every one of them.
She asks him why he can't trust people and he says that there's no one he's ever met who's really worthy of that trust and uses this example of how the scientists (his fellow colleagues) up in Atlantis screwed up this mission so naturally he's not really all hearts and flowers with the trust for them right now. (Sam rolls her eyes and cringes a lot)
By the end of it all, Sam is trying to keep him conscious and he's all delirious and confess-y ..... so he tells her that while he never did (and still does not) feel she was more intelligent than him, all intelligence aside, he thinks she's WISER, and that he's always enjoyed working with her. Lots of innuendo. (Apparently it's in every male actor's contract that their character gets to snog Carter at some point during the run of their particular series <ahem>).
Annnnd.... Lt. Col. Sheppard arrives in the nick of time with Zalenka(sp?), and dum dee dum, they manage to get a sheild extended from their PJ to Rodney's, Rodney tries to open the door for them, it won't work so he dives under water to the secondary release and gets it.
They rescue him immediately (dum dee dum!), and as he's entering their Puddle Jumper we see the GIANT WHALE THING that's been circling his PJ through the episode (and whom he's also had several one sided conversations with) go by. It's a great big beautiful piece of CGI (ooo ahhh), and as the door to the safe PJ begins to close, we see lil ole SAM, still standing in the old PJ, leaning on the door in her LuLuLemon jumper, waving g'bye to Rodney... ah the bittersweet sentimentality of it!!! ***sniff***snore***wha?***oh, sorry! lol
And.... though this was an accounting of events and by no means an actual review, minigeek rates this episode ** stars, out of a possible 4.
The acting in this ep was first rate. The story.... the writing...
Ta! mini(ffff! my fingers hurrrt!!)

I am afraid this is another fly by post because I don't have much time... but I have been wondering hasn't our friends across the pond received the latest episodes for SG-1? I realize GUP aired tonight.
2nd Half of Season 9 Poll
If so here is a question for my fellow Samanda friends who have seen the latest ...
Since I really don't want to be spoiled. I just want to know watch or don't watch?
On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being Above Avg. and 5 being So Below Avg. it doesn't Register )
Team Interaction?
Action and Adventure that has been Stargate style in the past (were you entertained?)
Interesting Surprises or wow factor (if none apply its okay to use 0)?
Which Sam appeared in the episode (use all that apply) Soldier Sam, Scientist Sam, Save the day Sam or Leader Sam?
Okay there is my quick poll? Please feel free to add or modify the poll. Of course fell free to answer the poll as well.
Edit: I read elsewhere that the 2nd half of Season 9 hasn't aired yet, but apparently it will soon. I guess I jumped the gun. Oh well. Just consider it a preview of question to come.

I posted a very short chapter this weekend. I'm slow, but it's coming along.
Excellent! I got a chance to read your new chapter at fanfiction.net. Really good!! Can't wait to see what happens next!
I can't believe this thread is turning one soon!! Wow, time flies. I don't think it is easy to sustain an appreciation thread for a character so well (looks like thunk threads can be sustained much easier), but this thread is a bit different!
MajorSal--I know you are down about the show right now given the way Sam/Jack ship is being handled, and other things too, but thank you for starting this thread---it's led to alot of great things and brought alot of great and talented people together as a result of liking Sam Carter and Amanda Tapping. And it continues to do so.

Nicely said, chocdoc, and yes, it's time for a birthday party as our fellow Samandans have suggested! Will have to think about this a bit ... as to Royal Bartender, there never was an official filling of that position ... I seem to recall that Royal Accountant may have been helping out because of her own skill at making the sloe gin! Open for grabs though! And, of course, we must ask Murray and his Merry Minstrels once again!
With our dear Royal Chef/Baker (Atteria) now gone, who will be taking care of the kitchen staff and the special cake?!
