Weir is way too protective of Sheppard's command. Canon shows that time and again. Plus, Carter and Weir have history; Carter blackmailed Weir to get a go for her mission in early season eight. Mutual respect for sure. But oh boy would they spar.

Sam: Oh, I'm with you on that, Doctor.

Eliz: You mean YOU didn't know you were being reassigned.

Sam: Hadn't a clue. Er, can we talk? (Eliz. leads way out to balcony)
I was in geared and ready to go to P3X411 when the call came.

Eliz: Who decided this? Why weren't we told?

Sam: I'm thinking its TPTB. Obviously they have something to prove.

Eliz: But WHAT?

Sam: Well, that a sexy female teammate could work for SG1, kind of like Teyla does for SGA.

Eliz: I've heard Teyla is sexy, but frankly she's been busy helping us survive so I hadn't noticed. That doesn't wash about you, Lt.; I would think you'd be, um, sexy enough?

Sam: Thanks, Dr; I wish saving the world was sexy, too! But not in BDUs, apparently. Vala Mal Duran wears leather with holes. Or a uniform one size too small.

Eliz: VALA! TPTB want her in SG1 instead of you? She's not an astrophysicist, is she? And didn't she steal a ship from us?

Sam: She's not and she did. All is forgiven, though.

Eliz: But WHY are you here? Are they replacing someone? Not Sheppard. McKay? Zelenka?

Sam: To be honest, I don't know. Being military I follow my orders.

Eliz: Yes, you are, and of course you do. I just wonder what they hoped to gain sending you here. Surely this can't be alright with you. You'll be under civilian command, Lt, that means my command. There aren't any military command posts open; you're not replacing Sheppard. What are you doing here, Lt. Carter? What are your orders?

Sam: I can't discuss that with you, Dr. Weir. At least, not yet. The writers had the SGC seal my orders until they figure out something. You'll know when I know, Dr.

Eliz: That's fine from the military end, but TPTB? Oh, wait. I can smell the answer to that one. Boys club. They could have written wardrobe changes for you. Put you in, I don't know, leather BDUs and kept you at SGC...

Sam: Boys club is hard to deny, Dr. Leather BDUs? I'd burst every seam laughing everytime I creaked! Besides, I wouldn't go for that anyway.But there's some good in this.

Eliz: Other than Atlantis gaining an officer of your repute, I assume.

Sam: You could have gotten Vala herself.

Eliz: (A beat). Welcome to Atlantis, Lt. Carter. Let ME show you around.

Sam: (Smiles) Please call me Sam. And try to show me AROUND Rodney McKay?

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING, I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS, I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED - THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.

SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.

I GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.

I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY

(((((((flippy))))). You're not the only one. I miss Jonas very much too, I especially miss the little brother/ big sister thing he had going on with

I think that was something they definitely did right with a new character. I think Jonas had room for more development, but they did seem to have a sense of who he was & what his relationship to the other characters was. Here was a new character that was *good* for Sam. I loved that scene where Jonas is trying to get Sam to find out for him if the nurse likes him. In just a little moment, and really nothing to do with the episode, you get so much info about their relationship.
Wish I could rep a bunch of you, but the green jello machine is still broken.
I respect people on this thread for saying things in a reasoned fashion whether they are expressing positive or negative opinions. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I think we can agree that we're thankful for the character of Samantha Carter and Amanda Tapping's great job in bringing her to life.
